Super warm and comfortable, though not as waterproof as expected

Overall I am impressed with the Valiance jacket. It is very warm and protective. Probably best suited to casual winter walks and other activities where you are not moving much. It is too warm for high output activities. The hood and hem both cinch in nicely to keep the wind out and are easily adjustable. I like the dropped hem at the back, nobody likes a cold bum! For a jacket labelled as waterproof, the face fabric seems to wet out quicker than I would have expected in only moderate rain, however, the Pertex waterproof membrane appeared to hold up well, with the down staying dry inside. It dries quickly when hung up indoors. I am a 39” chest and bought a size M, which fits perfectly.

Had mine for a month;

Had mine for a month; living in UK Peak District facing cold days in January with frequent rainfall, I can report it is fully waterproof, very warm and excellent at deflecting cold and biting damp winds. It’s maybe not as breathable as other some insulated Rab jackets, but that’s the small price you pay for such a high level of weather and rain protection. Hood is excellent, warm and fully adjustable. If you’re looking for just one winter jacket that’s a very good all rounder, and will protect you from the damp, miserable UK winter weather, this is a great choice.

Valiance Jacket

I have had two of these jackets now and the quality is questionable on both of them. Alot of the stitching is far apart and poorly completed. Down is escaping from the earlier jacket and beginning to from the 2nd jacket that was bought as replacement when the other one jacket was taken by a stranger only to be very kindly returned. The earlier jacket was made in 2018 and latter jacket in 2020. These jackets do not breath at all if you are on the move and could do with a phone pocket on the front outside.

Great Jacket

Purchased this jacket after looking for an age for a sensible priced waterproof down. Replacing 2 for 1, a HH stretch waterproof & Montane 800 fill. Size L, purchased. I'm 6'1" 14st wide shoulders. It's a great fit. Still able to wear a base layer plus sweatshirt on colder days. Been caught a few times in light rain...so far no issues. Let's see when the heavy rain hits it. 10K should be good for walking...just nervous with the down if it fails. Plus side, fit is shaped, plenty of pockets, hood is not massive ( helmet sized) easy to alter so you can see. Warm, even on a cold Wednesday night at the Bet365. Improve: half inch xtra on sleeves would be good, also noticed internal storm flap repeatedly folds back on itself, hence no storm flap. Overall, it's a great compromise, one jacket instead of two.

Value for money, very warm

Tested this Jacket recently in -18 degrees C snowy and calm conditions in Hokkaido, worn throughout with both casual and technical layering, retained heat very well with the cold felt on only one occasion were the wind picked up and humidity rose, with a small amount of moderate hiking I quickly warmed up. More packable than it looks. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a jacket down to -20 (with appropriate layering). Would be helpful to have a chest zipper compartment.

Best Brand now

In Italy Rab is not so famous because we have our Brands. I bought this jacket out of curiosity last year. Tested at -10° in Madonna di Campiglio, walking around the city and on the snow for few hours. Under the jacket a super cheap cotton shirt and a good fleece. I was tosted. Warmer than my 15 years old Canada Goose Constable parka for half the weight. Hope is useful i am 70kg and 170cm tall i bought medium size. Now Rab is my favourite Brand. Thank you and sorry for my English

No as warm as I thought

I recently purchased the Rab down jacket to upgrade from my budget Uniqlo one. While the Rab jacket boasts a higher price tag, I was surprised to find that it doesn't match the warmth of my old, half-priced Uniqlo jacket. Despite its cozy appearance, the performance left me wanting. I'd expected superior insulation for the investment. On the positive side, it is waterproof, but the primary function of providing warmth fell short in comparison to my more affordable alternative.

The Jacket is very light

The Jacket is very light weight, but the feathers compartments are not completely closed as i keep on having lost feathers stuck in the jumper I am wearing underneath, which i would not expect in a jacket at this price tag. I also thought it would be much warmer, but it is as warm as a synthetic sky jacket which are usually much cheaper. The hood is too close to the neck when you are not wearing it, as it touches the back of your head. The internal pocket for valuables is made of a very thin fabric which does not reassure to place my keys and wallet in case it breaks. This could be just my perception and the material being very durable in the end we shall see. The jacket is well finished but I cannot tell yet about durability as i have use it 4 times for now. The side pockets are well positioned and large enough, and the zips look well dimensioned and solid.

I've worn Rab down jackets

I've worn Rab down jackets for forty years, since getting my hands on one of the first trial jackets in a muddy orange colour. Quality suffered when production move to the far east, but too soon to comment on the ability of the Valiance's ability to retain the down. Extremely pleased with the cut and fit, and the ability to keep both cold and rain at bay have been well tested. An excellent jacket so far!

Very warm and comfortable jacket,

Very warm and comfortable jacket, not overly impressed by quality of zip and Velcro around cuffs. Also, I do think it should have 2 internal pockets on either side. It’s a nice jacket, will get loads of wear out of it, but maybe just falls short on my expectations of quality overall for the price point.
