Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Sadly, not a new and improved REI Aoraki Dress
As a huge fan and owner of five REI Aoraki Dresses, I was delighted to see that REI was producing the Savanna Trails Dress, described on their website as "the new and improved version of our beloved, member-favorite Aoraki dress." During my visit to the States, I made a trip to an REI store to try on the Savanna Trails. First, the sizing differs from that of Aoraki (at least for the 2017-2021 versions I own). It runs smaller, and while I am a small in the Aoraki, I am a poor-fitting medium in the Savanna Trails. The fabric is not similar. The Aoraki fabric is silky and cool. The Savanna Trails fabric is thicker and stiffer. Please bring back the Aoraki, and bring it back in other non-earth tone colors.
Best dress you will ever own!
The Savanna Trails Dress was previously known as the Aoraki Travel Dress a few years ago, and had disappeared. I was absolutely thrilled to see this flattering dress come back to REI, and being offered in a mauve color. The way the pockets are made, the flat and wide waistline, the length of the sleeves, the v-neck shape: everything is perfectly positioned to make a woman's body look great! REI, please consider offering this dress in other colors; perhaps a deep red, or a nice shade blue? I wear this dress at home, outdoors, and even at work with a cardigan. It is the best dress I ever owned!!
Fits perfectly
I went to my local REI for once (normally I buy everything online) and I tried this dress on not expecting much but I loved it. It looks much better on than it does in the photos and on the hanger. I bought both colors immediately. I’m fit but I have an extreme hourglass shape, so it’s hard for me to find dresses that accentuate my waist but aren’t too tight in the bust and rear. This dress fit perfectly and I don’t have to belt it like I do with all of my other dresses.
Yes you should by this dress
4.5 stars. I love everything about this dress except one minor detail. The color (I got mauve because I already have too many black things and I'm trying to incorporate more color into my wardrobe.) The lightweight fabric perfect for travel to hot locations and Washington, D.C. summers. Packable. Quick-drying. Flattering fit, even with my long torso and short legs. Perfect length. FUNCTIONAL POCKETS! Machine washable. In short, I'd give it 5 stars EXCEPT for the shoelace tie at the waist. I really wish that were more attractive, perhaps made from the same material as the dress.
A great summer travel dress
I accidentally ordered an XL in this dress and I'm actually glad because it fits great! Comfortable in the chest without being baggy, defined waist, and flattering shape overall. I live in South Carolina and it is great for hot days, and I plan on bringing it with me when we go to Europe this fall. I got the black and liked it so much I just ordered the mauve. The material is light and comfortable, the neckline is pretty without being too revealing, and the skirt hits just at my knees (I'm 5'6"). I think it will look great for sight seeing but also nice enough to wear to dinner. I wore it a couple times before I washed it and just shook it out out of the dryer and good to go!
Great versatile dress
This dress looks so much better on than in photos. Great for travel and lightweight in the heat, can be dressed up or down. I am 5’4” with a long torso (34/27/37) a small fits perfect and the length is just right at the knee. Also a pear shape and hard to find dresses that fit top and bottom. Pockets are well placed and don’t add volume at the hips and in fact help disguise a little stomach. The mauve color is great I may go back for the charcoal.

tried it on in store - agree it looks better on than on the hanger. it runs small as I bought a 2x and I am an XL. Dress isn't stretchy though like the Columbia freezer ones, but it drapes nicely
The Perfect Travel Dress
I bought the REI Trailmade dress last year and was overall pleased with it but there were some minor details I would have changed. The Savanna Trails dress incorporates those changes (no collar, waistband change change, fit improvement) and I absolutely love it! This dress is form fitting but also extremely flattering. I do not have a perfectly flat stomach and the way this dress drapes hides any bloating I would worry about. The sweat wicking fabric makes this my go-to outfit for travel in the summer. I am 5'4" and the dress hits right above the knee for me. This dress does fit more snug than the Trailmade dress. I am still a size small but for anyone who was in between sizes on the Trailmade dress you should definitely size up in the Savanna Trails dress. For reference I am 5'4", 145lbs, 34D with a curvy build. My one and only complaint is that I need more colors! I hope to see this dress more in the future. REI you knocked this one out of the park!

Amazing travel dress!
Amazing travel dress! I bought this in grey at my local REI a few days before a 2 week trip to Switzerland in June/July. There was a heat wave and this dress was my favorite thing that I packed. It fits well, keeps it's shape & packs well. I could wear for all day touring around town and to casual dinners nicely. I wore it 6 times on a 2 week trip & only had to febreeze & let it air out (carry-on only traveler). I didn't expect to love it as much as I do. Considering getting the mauve for the hot southern summer.
