Lightweight, good traction, roomy toe box. Unfortunately, shoe has limited eyelets which leads to reduced lacing options. If you have narrow heels I find I need to add pads to prevent slipping. Other On shoes I’ve been able to use creative lacing to help. Also, very uncomfortable along top of arch. I’ve tried different socks and loosening laces and still no relief. I do have high arches, so maybe shoe is better for low to normal arches. I’ve tried breaking them in for a couple of weeks and not getting any relief.
I bought 2 pairs of waterproof hiking shoes to compare and these were the ones I kept. I really like how they look and the color. For hiking, I have generally gone with trail runners, these are a bit more structured and seem less flexible which overall makes them more supportive for hiking. They are very comfortable and I have had no issues breaking them in.
I’ve worn Danner 2650s for years for light hikes up through scrambles, but even the mesh versions are kind of stiff and heavy. I recently purchased these and they’re great. More cushioning and just as stable with really good grip. They’re still waterproof and durable just like my mesh 2650s with gore-tex- they’re just a lot more comfortable.
These just might be my new favorite walking/hiking shoes! They have a wide toe box, perfect for my feet and toes, and feel so much more stable than the Cloudhorizon, which I tried and returned because the soles were too squishy for my liking. I'd prefer a different color or more color options, but the shoes are so comfortable I can forgive the color. If On eventually makes this shoe in other colors to my liking, I will likely buy another pair.
Excellent hiking shoes! And waterproof too! Purchased for hiking/walking tour in Italy Spring 2025.
