Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Painful Achilles

I waited until Altra distributed the Lone Peak 9+ in the States. I’ve been an Altra fan since Lone Peak 3’s. But I’m very disappointed in the latest Lone Peaks as after just 2 weeks my Achilles at the back and top of heel is painful sore. I’m switching to Topo as it also has a wide toe box, zero to low heel-to-toe drop and Vibram outsoles. Feet are different; just my experience.

Incredible fit and perofmance

Ive recently climbed over 500ft of rocky near verticle elevation in these and I was truly Satisfied with the performance I also use these shoes to cross a river and my feet stayed comfortable walking the trail even though they were soaked for a little while they also dried out really quick. I still have a hard time believing that I could return these shoes in any condition within a year thanks to REI membership.

Love how grippy these are!

Always missed not having the vibram grip on my lone peaks. These have been great for hiking on granite slabs as well as sandstones. I have hiked mostly in the whites with these and they have been doing great

Altra finally knocked it out of the park

I had an older version of this shoe, the Lone Peak… 5, think? They were garbage and I returned them within a couple hikes. So I was a little wary of trying this one. I really prefer the wide toe box and zero drop sole, so I took a chance again. I’m glad I did. Altra has finally found their groove. This shoe is made so much better and is so comfortable. It’s a rugged trail shoe that is holding up well so far, but I’ve only got about 15 miles on them so far. I’ll update if I need to, but based on past experience I suspect this shoe is shaping up to be one of the best trail shoes I’ve ever owned.

Comfortable as it gets

These shoes are amazing!! Lots of room for wide toes… super comfortable.. I’m an RN and so I’m on my feet 13 hours a day.. these are amazing and ergonomic so they do not cause issues like my Hokas did.. like walking in bare feet on cloud

Great quality

I am writing a review only because I should have burned a hole in these shoes when an ember landed on my foot for long enough to be worried that I burned through my sock but after looking at the shoe there was no damage! I can’t speak for the long term durability since I’ve only taken them on one camp trip but this experience made me confident that I made the right purchase choice! Very comfortable as well!! Just wish this series came in more colors

Happy about the Vibram soles

I purchased a pair of Altra Lone Peak running shoes six months ago (for hiking, not trail running) and I really like them, except that previous pair didn't have Vibram soles, which was a drawback. So I was happy to see that Altra added a version with Vibram soles, and I immediately bought a pair. My only concern is that the uppers on my previous pair of Lone Peaks began to develop tears and holes after about five months. Seems a bit soon for that, and I hope my new pair don't deteriorate that quickly. Also, it would be nice if there were more color options for these shoes.

Still going strong after 700 trail miles

The best purchase of the season. These shoes have gone 700 miles on the AT and still going strong. Toe box is wide, reducing risk of blusters.

VIBRAM!!!

Bought these right before a 6 mile hike. Still need some breaking in but performed absolutely amazing. the vibram was so good for walking over wet rocks and even tho the whole bottom got caked in mud, it didn't feel like I lost traction at all. That being said I would go into a store and try on sizes until your toes touch the front of the shoe and then size up half a size because then you'll have ample room for your feet! Otherwise probably the best shoe for hiking!
