Not impressed
I love my Smith gear and when I needed a new helmet because I crashed with my last Smith one, I didn’t even consider another brand. However, this model is NOT sleek like my last one; it’s not as well fitted to my head and it’s bulkier (less modern looking, too). The worst part, those bright yellow plastic clips - they rip my hair out! I’ve ridden with this helmet a few times and do not like it compared to my last one. Orange/green helmet in photos is this new one. I realize they’re a different style (black helmet in photos is Rover and new orange/green is Forefront), but I don’t like the Forefront style. I know it’ll protect my head if it fall.
Amazing Helmet: Fits like a glove!
Probably spent way to much on this helmet but after a crash 4 years ago in a pile of rocks breaking my collar bone and smashing my head I said no amount of money is worth brain surgery. This helmet has a honey comb construction and an inner frame that hugs your head perfectly. Never had anything fit so well. I'm not going to test it out but you're paying for peace of mind. I feel comfortable that if I crash again I'll have the best possible chance of walking away in one solid piece.
Great company, not so great helmet for long hair
I'm a huge Smith fan. Great customer service and products. Guess this review isn't about the Forefront 2, specifically, but the MIPS liner. Say what you will about MIPS and the marketing and science claims. We returned this great-fitting helmet because my girlfriend's hair gets caught in the MIPS liner where it attaches to the foam. We've had to rip hair to get the helmet off. Frustrating and embarrassing. Ended up buying a POC with SPIN (again, more marketing claims). Fits just as perfect as Smith, but her hair doesn't get caught in the MIPS liner attachment points. Thankful for REI's return policy.
Literally saved my life
I got this helmet on sale a few years ago to upgrade my head protection game. It’s very comfortable, fits perfectly, and breaths exceptionally well. Last year in Moab I took an OVB fall, laughed it off and kept ridding. When I got to the end of the trail, I noticed a very large dent in the helmet! I had no idea me head made any contact with the ground and didn’t suffer any repercussions (expect for needing to get a new helmet). I went with a POC for the next lid as it was a better deal, but this helmet is in my top two helmets hands down.
Saved my life
Did a drop then was thrown off in soft dirt landing and ended up landing on my head in a an 10 foot rocky ravine. Im concussed but not dead. The ER Dr said, "It must have been a very good helmet" I'm ordering another one!
Pulls my hair
I’ve been digging Smith helmets for awhile. While, I love the color and style of this helmet, the MIPS pulls my hair out every single time I take the helmet off. Seems like it’s not designed for women wearing pony tails or braids.
nice helmet but upgrade the visor, Smith!
Im a big fan of Smith. Squad goggles, OTW goggles, mainline FF helmet and now this half shell Forefront 2. Picked this up after I bonked my noggin pretty good and put my Mainline out of commission. I really like it, fits comfy, breathes well super lightweight. But, BUT! This visor is hilarious, it’s so tiny. I was doing work on a trail near my house and the sun kept getting in my eyes and no adjustment of the visor would help, it’s just too short. HOWEVER! I was able to take the visor from my Mainline and replace the Forefront 2 visor with it. Huge improvement, this should be the Forefront 3. Also being that both helmets were matte sage / redrock the integration of the Mainline visor looks so fresh!
Super
I love this helmet I do not notice it on, so it is very comfortable and provides good protection. Only thing is my long curly hair gets stuck and tangled in the back where the adjustment knob is.
Very Nice Helmet
Helmet is reasonably light. and the ventilation is pretty good, considering the honeycomb material inside used for impact. Having both the impact and MIPS is real pus on this helmet, as it gives you the best overall protection for helping to prevent head / brain injury during a fall. the strap adjustment system works fairly easily, although the chin step connector is pretty hard to open if you have small hands on and joint pains as it takes quite a bit of force to release. The magnetic release system would be a much better choice here, I believe. The visor does have adequate adjustability and would be able to store glasses there if needed. I'm using this for an E-bike, and went with this helmet as it gives much better all around protection in event of an accident.
smith forefront 2 MIPS
Just got this in the mail with 20% off and free shipping to Singapore , not a bad deal !! I came from a 1st gen forefront lid in medium and likely it alot , after trying out the forefront2 mips ..more comfy fit the rear straps don’t touch the neck anymore , overall the Forefront2 made an already good gen 1. Into a better fitting and comfy fit for Gen2
