Comfy Shoe for all adventures
I ended up ordering a half size up from a 9 to 9.5 which I think made the break in process a little easier. Cute chunky shoe good for adventuring light trails or exploring town. Great all round shoe only took a few days of walking around to break in this shoe and it didn't lead to any hot spots or rubbing. Tested this on a long weekend vacation Which included walking around several museums' and parks, two three mile hikes and a beach walk. Very cushioned and can handle water well keeping feet dry in mud and puddles. When the sneakers did get topped with water they dried quickly, kept feet cool and didn't stain or look dirty after several weeks of wear. Would recommend.
Trendy, not Technical.
Summary: If you're looking for a comfy and "trendy" chunky shoe for the dog park or chill urban adventures, this might be a good shoe for you. If you need support in your shoes or are looking for an actual trail shoe, this is NOT the shoe for you. Detailed: After wearing these around town and taking them on a few "off-road" adventures, I somewhat struggled with where to place them or label them within the outdoor recreational market. They attempt to incorporate certain "technical features," but the technical features a undermined by other aspects of the design. To name a few examples: 1. While the provide a lot of cushion, they provide no stability. In fact, they almost seem to force slight pronation of the foot because of the cupping of the footbed on the outside of the heel. 2. The lugs on the bottom of the shoe are fairly high and they generally performed well in gripping the earth on steep(ish) and loose terrain, but the quality of the rubber sole leaves little to be desired. I anticipate the lugs will erode away within a month or two of regular wear. Further, the lack of stability in (or rather intense flexibility of) the shoe renders the lugs pretty much useless in uneven terrain because your foot slides around and contorts with the terrain, unable to deliver the force needed to engaged the lugs for traction. AKA: The rocky paths of the desert or mountains would be a disaster. To that end, I think what I've come up with, is that this shoe is for the individual who prioritizes representing modern style trends in their footwear choices (these are chunk-tastic) and wants a decently comfy shoe that stays dry in rainy conditions (it does!!) and can the handle loose, relatively flat terrain encountered urban adventures. This shoe is not for someone looking for a technical or performance shoe for outdoor adventures.
Attractive shoe but runs small
It's always interesting when nontraditionally outdoor brands create a product for the outdoors. Now, Vans hasn't always been synonymous with ergonomics for me, but these shoes are quite comfortable and provide a lot of support. They give a good rebound with each step, but I would prefer a taller shoe for ankle support if I'm going to use them for hiking. The color and style is aesthetically pleasing if you're one to care about how you look on the trail, but these make great casual shoes too. The tread doesn't look like it'll withstand more moderate trails for that long, but these are perfect for easy local hikes and would be better than using your regular running shoes. I found that these run small despite sizing up half a size. I could barely wear a thin sock with it, so I would size up a full size if you wear thicker socks.
Solid, cute, a minor flaw.
These are a very attractive shoe and have excellent grip. The support through the shoe is solid for my ankles. I wasn’t able to test their waterproofing but based on the breathability I expect they’re decent in that regard. However, some seam in the middle of footbed digs into my foot even through the insole. It’s not awful, but it doesn’t provide the most comfortable long distance experience.
Good Grip
I received these trail shoes as part of a promotion. I usually wear an 8.5 in women’s trail running shoes (which is the size I received), but these seem to run a bit small specially the toe box area. I felt like my pinky toe was getting squished. Though I will say the toe box area did loosen up after a 10 mile hike. I typically apply thin gel inserts into all of my footwear for extra comfort, but there was no additional room for an insert. So I would recommend that if you feel like you have wide feet or anticipate you’ll wear thicker hiking socks/ add inserts, I would go up a size or at least half a size. Other than a minor sizing detail, these shoes are great! The tread feels like a vibram sole. It gripped really well on rocks as well as rocks that were covered in slippery dirt/pebbles (IYKYK). Since the tread is firm similar to a hiking boot, I was impressed that it held up well to an extensively rocky trail with sharp edges. “Trail runners” with more cushion would’ve been gouged around the edges, but these shoes held up nicely. Another minor appreciation - the shoe strings are the perfect size. Not too short and not overly long. These shoes are not quite as breathable as others, but it seems like it has good water protection for water crossings etc. Overall, I would recommend these Crosspaths if you’re looking for a low cut hiking shoe with a firm sole that has good traction and can hold up to tough terrain such as rocky and wet.
Basically perfect
These shoes are awesome. They were very comfortable right out of the box and the colorway is perfect for someone who loves neutrals but still wants a cool shoe. The padding around the heel and sides of the ankle is supportive without being too bulky and the tongue has elastic on the sides to allow for some stretch. The fit was true to size but if you're between sizes, I'd suggest ordering the large size. The width is a little narrow and it doesn't bother me but it is something to keep in mind if you want a wider shoe. The sole has great traction for trails or pavement. I've worn them on both almost every day since I got them and I never feel like I'm going to slip or have a misstep. I also have spilled water and coffee on the upper portion and it wiped off super easily so that's a bonus. Overall, they're comfortable, look great, and I see them being my new every day shoe.
Cute but have several issues
I was so ready to like these, but unfortunately I don’t think they’re the right fit for me! Super cute and cool color and design. I liked the flecks on the sole, since they give the shoes personality and also would hide any dirt from regular use! They also seem to be well constructed from the outside, nice thick soles, good stitching, strategic waterproofing in places. However, I would definitely size up. My regular size seemed way too tight, even with the laces very loose, and I think it’s because the shoe upper might just be too tight. The heel is also not as sturdy as I prefer and crumpled really easily when I stepped into the shoe when putting it on. Overall super promising and very cute, but not right for me!
Great shoes for hiking days and all around wear
Excelent hiking shoes. I always prefer trail runners over boots and these fit the bill perfectly. I generally gravitate towards wide toe box shoes, and while these are not specifically called wide toe box vans does this well. The chevrons on the bottom provide excelent grip on slippery rocks. Although these are 'water resistant' I didn't find my feet getting wet on a damp hike, although there was not any deliberate puddle action
Poor Quality
The shoe developed a hole in the top material above the big toe within the first month of wear.
