NICE GLOVES - OUTRAGEOUS REPLACEMENT BATTERY COSTS
After looking at and trying on the Seirus Hellfire (these), Outdoor Research Prevails, and the Hestra Power Heater Gauntlets, here are my impressions: OUTDOOR RESEARCH (OR) was my favorite glove manufacturer until they discontinued the Alti glove. The Prevails are well made, run a little small in fingers (XL), not much noticable heat, reasonably priced replacement batteries ($90 pair), and shorter heat time. 2 stars. HESTRA, best luxurious feel, run a little small (XL), largest gauntlet, not much noticable heat, shorter heat time, harder to get pinky into, reasonably priced replacement batteries ($90 for a pair). HOWEVER, Hestra says batteries should be replaced yearly, YEARLY? (really?). 2 stars. SIERUS, well made, run a little larger in fingers which I like for fingertip insulation (XL), a little tight over the knuckles when closing a fist, and uneven run battery times. Mine ran on high for 4 hours on the right but only 3:15 on the left. While batteries have some variation, I think this is exccessive at this price point. However, ***OUTRAGEOUSLY PRICED*** Li-on replacement batteries at $159 for a pair! They are the most expensive gloves - but do provide the most heat and longest run time. HOWEVER, getting RIPPED OFF for replacement batteries AT $159 A PAIR really, really botheres me. You can find compatablly sized (in Mah) LI-on batteries on Amazon for $40, but none I can find have a compatable connector. The price of the gloves is also by far the highest of the three. 3 stars due to replacement battery price - otherwise 4 stars. Trying to find reasonably priced relpacement batteries for any of these gloves is an excercize in frustration due to the wacky, non-standard connectors used by all 3 manufacturers. If a battery company wants to really cash in (and one soon will given Sierus's outrageous battery prices) make batteries with compatable connectors or adaptor cables.
