First time getting an opportunity to hike in these boots and they just were outstanding dream was no issue no slip issue on rocks no issues navigating through some down trees and mud.
Bought these as a work shoe as I work in hvac and am anywhere from rooftops to crawl spaces, outdoors in the woods to city sidewalks. They are very comfortable and keep my feet dry in the rain and breathe enough so I don’t sweat like crazy in the hot attics. The sole has enough grip to keep me from slipping on wet banks. I feel like I have some extra spring in my step with the thick cushiony heel on these boots. My only complaint is the elastic cord for the lace eyelets. On the left boot the cord is cut too long inside the shoe and if my foot is pressed up against anything on the outside it hurts. Other than that I’m very pleased.
I bought these for a hiking trip as a novice, and wanted something I could also use for rainy city commutes. These boots are exactly what I was looking for - I hiked 20 miles of rocky, snowy mountain trails and my feet never hurt, the waterproofing is excellent and my feet were never wet hiking through snow or on rainy days in the city. One caution - these are fairly low, so your ankles might get a little wet when walking for a while in the rain, but it’s worth the low profile style. I wear a 10 running shoe and a 9.5 fit perfect. I will be coming back to Merrell for all my hiking needs in the future!
Thanks for the great feedback Lucas!
I bought one pair and liked them so much I bought a second. A bit pricey, but the tan color was on sale. Great fit - combines excellent cushioning with great support. Super comfortable traversing steep, difficult terrain. And waterproof. Note I bought the second pair not due to wear. But rather because Merrell sometimes changes shoes so much from season to season that a shoe you love one year may be a total non-option in its next version. Witness what Merrell did to ruin the Chameleon in out years
Not a fan of the new foot bed and sole. Very loose fit in the heal. These do not come close to the feel of what I have become accustomed too over the many years and purchased shoes. Maybe I am spoiled by pulling them out of the box and wearing them on the trail. Good thing I found my old faithful type on clearance. No idea what my future purchases will be because this new arrival in not the Merrell I know and love. These are to be hiking footwear not tennis shoes.
The boots are lightweight and warm. The sole inserts ("floatpro") are absolutely useless, and I added Reebok waffle sole inserts to make them comfortable. The collars are very stiff and uncomfortable, and I added foam pads inside to make them bearable. I needed lightweight and warm, but at this price Merrill should supply the padding for comfort and a better removable sole. I don't think what these boots lack justifies the price.
I have generally gravitated towards Merrell hiking boots last pair I owned was the Moab Gortex due to the previous model that I really liked being discontinued. I am not impressed with the look of the Moab Speed 2 Leather that I just received. It’s like the rebath of boots as it looks like a tennis shoe masquerading as a boot. They are very comfortable but not the look I was hoping for.

Super light comfortable boot bought it for fishing and hunting hikes in gorge country , kept my feet dry through the long grass all day and little to no breaking in needed but the tread was slightly slick fresh out the box but wore in fine, great boot but showed signs of wear within a few hours nit sure how durable these are for regular hikes
I have bought several pairs of Merrell Moab 2 low shoes. Extremely comfortable, but I would never consider them a true hiking shoe. More like a street boot. BUT, the Speed 2 is a whole different animal. I purchased the leather, waterproof mid boots and they are EXTREMELY comfortable and feel sure footed on the trail.
