Not what I expected papers thin rain jacket .Very disappointing.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Previous to this jacket, I had a Hyvent that lasted around 7 years and needed to be replaced because the waterproof insulation started to break apart, so the standard is set really high. I bought this as a replacement, and the fit is a bit snug, since I live in a country with a really hot weather, this is not an issue, but if you need to use layers you have to take that in consideration while selecting de right size. I must say I'm not a fan of the rain cap hanging all the time as a hoodie, but that aside, I think this jacket is really worth the price. Keeps you completly dry and I really like thte pit-zip venting, this makes a whole difference while hiking.
Just picked this up a few weeks ago. Great fit and love the armpit zip vents which I used extensively during a recent warm and rainy (very) trip. Was able to compare this jacket with someone who had a water resistant one and while I stayed completely dry I can't say that for the other person!!
Jacket fits well but the under arm zippers should be closed prior to getting into. Fabric is thin but retains heat well and is water proof as described. I won't use it for outside heavy working conditions, just for walking around and light duty activities. It's perfect for watching baseball/football games or during downpoors going to and from the store. It can be folded up easily for backpacks and carry on luggage and is great for the coastal weather conditions.
I've worn this a few times in spitting, cool rain in the Driftless Region and it's kept my upper body completely dry. It's also pretty warm, which I very much appreciated in May's cold mornings. The only downside is that it's so stiff, the hood doesn't turn with my head. When I look left or right, I see the inside of the hood. But, I was in and out of a white pine plantation, brushing up against soaked boughs which would drop a slug of water on my head, and I never got wet, so pick your poison, I guess. If you're working, it's ideal. If you're birding, you might want to find a more flexible jacket.
First complaint is with North Face. I called to get more specific product info and the employee couldn't help me and I was just looking for sizing info that wasn't listed. Second complaint...I had to return an item that didn't fit and it took almost a month to process my return because of the 3rd party shipping carrier Northface chose which is ridiculous Third complaint is with the jacket itself. I chose the black and as you can see from the photos has no logo on the interior lining. The jacket I recieved had northface logo all over the interior. I'm not dealing with sending it back at this point because I'm leaving on a trip and needed a coat but I wouldn't buy from Northface again in the future
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love the material and zippers. But like other reviewers have stated, the hood is way too big for a normal sized head. It seems to have been designed for use over a helmet. There's no way to cinch it smaller when not wearing a helmet so it obscures your vision. Wearing a baseball cap helps. The other issue is the pit zips, which cannot be open/closed with one hand. It's difficult to hold one end of the zipper with one hand and zip it with the other, meaning you have to take the coat off to zip them open or closed. Other than those two (big) issues, it's a great coat that keeps you dry.
I have the 2017 version of this jacket, which I really liked. It started to degrade so I bought this new version, but ultimately I didn't like it and returned it. The zipper in the middle has this weird bulge when you zip the jacket up (it seems to be across all the jackets of this version because of the way it was sewn). There were a couple other things I didn't like (ironed on logo versus the old version is sewn in and also the sizing is different on this new jacket). I opted for REI's rain jacket for a comparable style but better fit and no weird outward bulging in the zipper.
Try wearing this jacket in the rain. Bad idea, got all wet, my other $50 bucks jacket works better than this
I've owned this jacket less than 2 years, have taken good care of it, but its already falling apart. I submitted a warranty claim & was told that is the "NORMAL breakdown of materials over time"!!
