I'm 5'10", 170lbs and got the medium in black. - this works great as a mid-layer and fits well underneath a puffy jacket as part of my winter layering system. The added benefit of keeping the stink down with the merino wool is main reason I bought this and it didn't disappoint. I can wear this all week backpacking and as an additional layer while sleeping and no body odor! This also pairs well with the Smartwool Merino Sport Fleece Wind Tight when trail running in the winter. The addition of the more durable panels on the front of the pants and jacket really help cut the wind. I pair this with a light rain jacket to build out a full layering system.
Early mornings during the winter are quite cold where I live, so I was looking for a slightly heavier hoodie for a short walk to the gym and during warm up. As I was perusing for the aforementioned hoodie, I came across this in black and was immediately struck by it. I tried it on and loved how it fit and felt. However, since it wasn’t a hoodie, I left without purchasing. Once I got home, I immediately regretted not buying, so I drove back same day and bought. I haven’t regretted it. It is warmer (surprisingly so) than the other hybrid jackets I have. It’s stretchy and cozy. It keeps me relatively warm in 20s weather. It also looks sharp and wears well with anything, from office attire to gym garb. I am so glad I didn’t pass it up just because it didn’t have a hood. I have a muscular build—big chest, arms, shoulders, smallish waist—and the medium fits great.
Bought this in Currant color, size L (I am 5’7”, 190 lbs- slightly overweight but with broad shoulders). I could wear a Medium, but I wanted a less “technical”/snug fit, with room for more layers. For me the L size is great, and I’m fine with slightly long sleeves given the thumb holes/intentional hand warmer design. Great design for active use, as the less-insulated back and arm surfaces are able to vent heat while the front insulated areas keep your core warm. Deep side pockets are great for a small hat or gloves. I’ve used my jacket for two longer, high-speed walk/light hike in the woods in mid-30s temps (Fahrenheit). I love mine- it’s too early to evaluate durability, but based on a number of other SmartWool garments I own I expect it to last. I consider it a fantastic design for active use.
I want to love this jacket, but the lack of insulation on the back limits my use. I tried it anyway because I had dividend money and I figured the designers would be smarter than I was, but having worn it several times now it's somewhat disappointing. If I'm training hard enough that I don't need back insulation, I don't need insulation on the front of my chest either.
Bought as a gift for my husband. Looks sharp on its own or as a warm layer under winter coat. An xl fit his 220 pound,5’11, 60-year-old body. Excellent Smartwool quality.
A great and versatile jacket from running to the gym, wearing to the office, or under a ski jacket as a layer. Would highly recommend and love the smartwool stretch.
