Good Bag - Some Improvements
I use tote as my primary work bag, so it mostly carries folders, my laptop/charger/mouse, etc. I have not taken it on business trips. Overall, I like the tote, and it will continue to be my primary work bag, but there could be a few improvements to make it an excellent bag. LIKES. The size, organization, and weight are good for my needs. The square design makes it good for carrying folders, books, etc. I found the main compartment big enough for my books, folder, laptop (not charger) for daily activities (photos). I would switch to a larger bag if I was carrying more items (think on a business trip). The backpacking straps where comfortable. It’s best to store bulky items like chargers, etc. in the main compartment because it’s a tight fit in the outside pockets which are not zippered, so the bag must be always kept upright, or items may spill out. DISLIKES. (1) The bag does not stand up on its own which means it must be leaned on something to access the contents (think getting keys out to open a door). (2) The tote handles are at the same time too long and too short. I am 5’9” with average length arms. The handles are so long that the tote hits stairs going up or down (photo), so I needed to use the small handle. In turn, my wife says the handles are too short to be carried on the shoulder. This could be remedied if the handles were shorter, but detachable to allow connecting together for one longer shoulder carry handle. (3) The laptop storage is OK but makes it hard to get pens out of their holders when a laptop is in its sleeve (photo). I think the durability might be a problem with extended use. Overall, I think it’s a good bag for daily, light load, use like work or school.
Stylish and Functional Bag
I bought this bag as a daypack for a two week trip to Portugal. I wanted something lightweight and not too bulky that I could pack inside my carryon if needed. This was much more stylish than other bag options like the Osprey Daylite or the AER Go Pack 2 (not available through REI) that I'd read about. I'm 6'1", 200 lbs, and have a broad chest and this pack was comfortable. I used it exclusively as a backpack, and had the tote handles tucked in and snapped away. I like the two external pockets on the front - the zipper pocket has a fob which I used to attach my iPods to. I stored an accordion-style hand fan in the other (snapped) pocket. Internal zippered pocket was great for wallet and other essentials I needed to keep secure. The laptop sleeve and internal organizer panel leave much to be desired - they are kind of flimsy. In general, the quality of internal materials and the sewing do not seem top notch, but for the price and for how much I like the function of the bag, it's not a dealbreaker for me.
Great for everyday, walking, biking, or work
The Co-op nailed it with this bag. I feel like it's just the right size and holds enough stuff, without being either too chunky or fragile. The bag has the ability to be a backpack or tote-bag style orientation, but I've only use it as a backpack and the tote bag handles have a smart tuck-away spot, where they stay nicely. Every strape and handle, the zippers and buttons, are all high quality and well done. I usually carry a clipboard, laptop, a notebooks, but it also fits shoes and a change of clothes if I use it for the gym. I definitely would not call it waterproof, but I'm not worried about a brief walk or bike ride in a light rain. My only nit-picky complaint is that I with the bottom of the bag had a small amount of padding or a thicker layer. I can clearly hear the corner of the laptop make a thud if I'm not paying attention to putting the bag down. I have the Raisin color, and feel like it's slightly more purple than the product image shows, but it's a nice look!
Versitile, sturdy, cute bag
This backpack is so smartly designed and versitile! I love it. I have used it as a daypack for around town, a purse, my son's diaper bag, a computer bag and this weekend I will use it as my carry-on bag when I take a trip. There are smart compartments to hide the straps you aren't using when you aren't using them and they double as extra pockets when you are using the straps. The material feels sturdy and the bag in general feels well constructed. I haven't seen any signs of wear and tear yet and I've used it daily for a bit over a month now. It quickly became my favorite bag once I got it.
great versatile small capacity bag.
love versatility of bag. straps great and convenient. laptop pocket and size is perfect. many pockets. good for use in travel and for everyday use especially with papers and laptop. net pocket interior very helpful
Looks nice, functions terribly.
I knew this bag was going back about 15 minutes after getting to the airport on a recent trip. The bottom is sloped like a backpack rather than flat like a tote so it falls over any time it is set down, especially if you have a laptop in the rear sleeve. The backpack straps came unclipped multiple times when they should not have, and the placement of the interior pockets made placing items into the bottom unnecessarily challenging. I’m glad REI has a great return policy because I really thought this bag was going to be great and was extremely disappointed.
This bag works for everything!
I have had this pack for several months. I have a minor obsession with finding the “perfect” bag. Something that I can open easily with one hand, stays open, stands on its own, plenty of pockets and overall a good looking bag….and this is that bag! I have been using it as a diaper bag while on maternity leave. I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old. I can pack snacks, diapers, wipes and clothing with plenty of room to spare. I slide a changing pad in the laptop sleeve and love all of the additional pockets and organizing in the bag. Since returning to work I also use the bag as my daily work pack and can fit lunch and breakfast containers along with my notebook and makeup bag. I love the tote straps on this bag and plan to purchase it again in the Raisin color if it goes on sale again! I’d love to see a green color option added in the future!
Love this pack!
This backpack has so many features and is very comfortable. The different compartments are great, and I feel it's designed very well.
Great, versatile, roomy bag!
I've been using this bag for months now after trying to work with the Sherpani Soleil AT Bag (which they claim is 18L and it definitely is NOT. Their original 16L bag fit more things than the newest version does). I prefer a bag with the full length top zipper that eases getting in and out of the bag without a lot of fuss. This bag is perfect for that. This bag also feels truer to its capacity claim (26 liters), but doesn't feel too big or clunky. I use it mostly for schlepping personals around while running errands or grocery shopping, and I can fit a number of groceries in there when the bag is mostly empty. It fits a good sized laptop, will hold a tall litre-sized water bottle in either side pocket without risk of it falling out. If needed, one can cram in a lightweight jacket or sweater, hat and gloves, or whatever. The front pockets, while not gusseted, are designed to actually function like pockets - they aren't so aligned to the main body of the bag that they're useless slips of fabric with a zipper. I can actually fit somewhat bulky, but small things in the pockets. Like others reported, the bottom did feel a little unsupported, but I had a piece of crepe latex rubber leftover from some other project, so I cut out a piece to fit the bottom of this bag and before fixing it on the bottom of the bag, i just slipped the crepe rubber into a sleeve of cotton fabric, seated it on the bottom, and it firmed up the base of the bag just fine. Highly recommend this bag!
Everyday or carry on.
This is nice for for every day or as a carry on as you can carry it on your back or use the tote handles. Roomy and light weight with a removable compartment for iPad/computer. Plus it’s a fun color.
