The luggage is great overall except for one flaw, the extended handle. I have had this bag for 2.5 years and have had problems with the handle going in and out. It was fine for a few months but is now to the point that I can’t get it out. The problem is the release is to weak, and the guide tube need some kind of anti friction in them. But, the bag is great other than that. I fly 6 to 8 times a month and it has held up great. After 2.5 years, mine shows some wear but not bad. The other great thing about this bag is, no one has it, so I can tell real quick when pick up from being checked in. Also, I am a field service engineer and am giving my opinion from that perspective. REI, please design a better handle,

Very poor quality rei product

The recycled material used on the soft portion picks up black marks from airport conveyor belts and does not hold up well. After using it twice, it has permanent stains and a scrape. Looks awful.

First Flight

I purchased the bag and recently took a round trip flight to Las Vegas. After watching the way luggage is sometimes handled by airline employees, I wondered how the bag would hold up compared to other luggage bags I’ve used in the past. The bag seemed to come through its maiden voyage only a little worst for wear. The color shows dirt and scuff marks fairly easy. It was simple to locate the bag on the airport carousel amongst all the other bags due to its unique color. If I was to purchase another bag, I would likely go with a black bag and try putting some type of colorful tag for identification purposes. But the material held up better then I expected. The framework, wheels and straps seemed to weather the storm nicely. I’m not sure how it will look after a few more trips.

A solid and sturdy travel companion

I was packing for a couple-week winter trip to Portugal and realized the morning of my flight that all my gear wasn't going to fit in my smaller carry-on sized rolly duffel. I had a flight at 1:00 pm, and luckily REI opened at 10:00 AM so I ran down there and picked up this bag. I was impressed with this duffel and abused the heck out of it over 3 weeks. It went on multiple flights, bus, train, Uber rides and I drug it all over the steep, cobbled streets of the old cities. I like the variety of outside pockets and daisy chain attachment. The light colored liner makes it easy to organize and see your gear. The wheels and handle seem quality. The rubberized fabric is nice for some protection from the rain or snow. I loaded it up on the return flight with a few bottles of wine amongst all my gear and they arrived in one piece! While I like the mustard yellow color since it's easy to spot amongst all the other bags not the luggage carousel the duffel gets dirty very fast and my bag looks like it's been thought the ringer (as it kind of has)! This REI duffel is basically half the price of the Patagonia, Osprey, North Face ones and I didn't see much of a difference in quality to justify spending more.

Broken wheel

If you are looking for more disappointment in your life, this is the bag for you. After mild use one of the wheels came apart on me. I found it in this condition in my garage. This bag has lived a pampered life, (ie riding in a mid-sized SUV on long road trips, staying at hotels that have loyalty programs). I understand "wear and tear", but that's not the case here as it only affected one wheel, the other wheel is fine. I only wanted the wheel replaced, the bag is in great condition, I was not looking for a new bag. In fact I own two of these bags, this only affected one wheel on one bag. So I brought the bag into the local REI store and was told by the Manager that due to REI "Policy" the warranty had expired, it could not be repaired/replaced. I was offered assistance to find a luggage repair shop and maybe they could make the repair to the wheel. The Manager stood behind the "policy", but not behind the product.....disappointing, that may be good corporate policy, but horrible customer service. Lessons learned. Won't get me again.

High hopes dashed

Telescoping handle will not deploy the night before my second tour with this bag. I thought it’s rugged design and massive wheels would last me many years and if they ever wore out they even appear as if I could change them out like trucks on a skate board. But after just one tour across the country and back and less than a month after owning the bag a flaw in the telescoping handle grounds this poser 1 out of 5. I even loved the color because it really jumped off the conveyor at baggage claim. I could have said so many great things about this bag. I absolutely loved it for exactly 1 month and then #cry

Ran it over with my Tundra... Accidentally

This Big Haul duffel is tough as nails. I accidentally ran this duffel over with my Toyota Tundra and it got wedged under the skid plate. I drug the duffel through stones and dirt for about 30 feet before I realized it. Once I wedged a rock under the tire and drove up on it to be able to pull the duffel bag out, I came to realize that there wasn't any damage done other than a couple small scratches, dirt, and mud. It cleaned right up and is as good as new with a little added character now. You can literally run this bag over with a truck and it will hold up. haha Thanks so much for making a solid project for the on the go outdoors person.

Great except handle stops sliding

I have two of these for three and four years, and have traveled full time with one or both all over the world urban and remote. They take a beating, keep gear safe and dry, and hold a lot, BUT the bars for the handle get dented and bent even inside the bag, so the handle stops sliding up and down and becomes extremely cumbersome and annoying. I have loved these bags, and I'm so mad that I can't use them unless I fix the bars inside so the handle slides again. I have to consider fixing or replacing them, and I'm still not sure if I'll replace them with the same bag knowing the handles will stop siding. It's almost the perfect bag.

Great luggage! A winner at a great price

Great luggage. Holds large amount. Zippers work well. Love the larger wheels- much sturdier than luggage I am replacing. Re dirt/ stains-that’s an indicator of the airports equipment used to transport luggage- yes it’s dirty & all luggage is dirty- just use some 409/fantastik & clean your luggage- the marks will come off. An excellent purchase!

Doesn't Hold Up Well

A nice-looking bag at first. However, on its very first and only use it became very heavily stained and blackened at the airport. Something about the material won't allow be removed easily. It was a shock to see the bag come off the carousel in such a state. Also got a small rip in its side. Too much wear and tear for only a single use.
