Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

For All The Guys With Dad Bodies
I own this jacket in two colors orange and blue. All of us REI outdoor athletes and weekend warriors are not built like ultra marathon athletes. Us big and tall guys like to get out there too. If you are built like a football lineman, TE or linebacker but no longer have your HS shape. You've found your jacket. I am 6'4 and vary between 300-320 lbs. My ares are 37.5 Thus jacket in a 3XL fits great. Wear tested in Whistler-Blackolcomb in -8° & -10° Fahrenheit with an insulating layer. No issues. In Mammoth in 30-40° it's too warm when boarding. I've worn it in various resort villages when walking, it's awesome. I also own an OR Snowcrew and the features are very similar.
Nice outer shell
Reading some of the reviews, there seems to be some confusion about this product and how it is meant to be used. First - this is a thin jacket, as are most ski/snowboard jackets. It's purpose is to function as a shield from wind and water. It is NOT meant to keep you warm all by itself. You are supposed to layer when you ride. The thinness is actually desirable because that means it will be light enough for you to wear over a tshirt in the spring and not overheat. Second - the sizing. This jacket is loose and long... that's just the style. Don't size down. It fits the same as other REI gear. If you don't like the loose/casual look, or don't want your jacket to cover your butt at all, then I suggest buying something else. For an outer shell, I'm very happy with this jacket. I rode 20-something times this year in Colorado in all kinds of conditions, and was always comfortable. It held up really well, no tears or rips. Never leaked water. There's ample pockets and drawstrings for adjustments. It's also the perfect weight to wear standalone for spring riding. I'll for sure be keeping it for a few more years.
Good jacket, except for the sleeves.
Good value ski jacket. Warm, waterproof, plenty of storage. Deducted a star because of the Velcro on the end of the sleeves. There isn’t enough Velcro to fasten it properly. When I Velcro it tightly a large flap sticks out. Pretty annoying and looks silly. Otherwise its a great jacket
Does the job on the mountain.
Snowboarders / skiers, this parka does the job in cool or cold weather! As others have stated, it runs big and not a bad thing if you like it loose and long. If not, come down a size and no big deal. More importantly, has all the features that we need on the mountain and a great price in comparison to other brands. To make it better, now on sale. Held off writing this review until skiing on various days at 3 different resorts with 2 of them in pretty cold conditions and held up. Had to take off some mid layers on first day as got too warm.
I would buy this again, no question.
I originally picked up this coat for a Colorado trip in mid January and it completely blew me away. Performed great in the snow and I’ve used it since for some short hikes. The xxxl fits me great at 6’1 and 340lbs, so big guys like me can find their size. The arm pit vents are a game changer, I can wear just a t-shirt under this coat and be pretty active without getting soaked. Then I added a couple of layers and I was warm and toasty just hanging out at 20 below freezing.
Really nice coat, but opportunity for improvements
I really like this coat. It keeps me warm in cold weather and dry in wet weather. I love the exterior material. The hood adjusts well, and stays as you adjust it, so it's not necessary to adjust it every time you put the hood on. I like the interior device pocket and the drawstring to cinch its bottom. The coat feels "sturdy". Improvements I'd make include: it runs large, even when worn with layers - there's just lots of fabric. For example, I actually find it difficult to open and close the exterior chest pockets because of the amount of fabric. I'd line the pockets with something like fleece to make them "cozier"
New go-to
This powderbound jacket is my new go-to for anything outdoors when it is 25-30° up. It allows great full-range mobility, sheds wind & snow with ease, amazingly warm for the light weight. Feels like a smooth miracle fit - it feels roomy tho it’s never in your way. Better than a shell, the light insulation magnifies your heat, just pick your base & mid layers to tune. The jacket breathes and dumps easy when you’re indoors. Storage is generous. I got the fiord pattern - it’s a great look. On-size, too. Highly recommended, just tested mine with the Jan 24 snows in an Appalachian mountain town.
Everything you need
I think this jacket is a big step up for rei. It really combines warmth comfort and reduced weight to give you something that you can wear reliably in snowy and wet conditions. The insulation is enough to know it's there and know it's working but not so much that it restricts any form of movement. The length is fantastic and the pockets are well placed so you can get it all your gear, and especially your snacks. I appreciate that the cuffs aren't huge, it always seems like you're sweeping around giant extra reams of fabric at the end of your wrist but not so much with this. This may not be a big deal to some, but it doesn't make a lot of noise when you move your arms, which I truly appreciate.
North Woods Winter Companion
More than a ski jacket - a warm, rugged all-around Winter coat with a most excellent hood. Spent some Winter days living in this coat in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in a range of conditions, from freezing rain, to crisp and cold, to raging Lake Effect blizzards. Works well with layering. The pit vents efficiently dump excess heat. Wonderful feature is the adjustability of the well-designed hood and collar. Open it up for a helmet, or sung-fit a beanie, or tighten it up for a nice brim without headwear. The collar runs high to easily cover your chin. This unit has taken a beating and still looks and wears like new. And, as usual, a high-quality R.E.I. product at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
Even works great in the rain!
I have a Womens size of this jacket. I got it because I THOUGHT I was going to be spending some casual time in the snow....IE go up the mountain and put my snow shoes on and hang out for a little bit and come home. 2 years gone by and I haven't done that yet, so I don't know how well it works with the snow. BUT: If you are looking for an insulated rain jacket....or a snow/rain jacket combo....this jacket is amazing. I have used it several times at youth soccer events where it is cold and a torrential downpour. I have stayed both dry and warm with this jacket the several times I have used it!!
