Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

Excellent shell pants overall

I greatly appreciate uninsulated shell gear for any movement in the snow, so was pretty eager to try these, and I have yet to be disappointed. The design is thoughtful and practical with no gimmicks. Long side vents for ventilation. The pockets are well positioned and easy to access with a simple closure via a small patch of velcro. The zipper pulls are on the small side and may not be super easy to manipulate with bigger gloves, but on the flip side, they reduce bulk and tuck nicely behind the fabric flaps. Fabric placement is equally well thought out. The inside of the pants legs have lower friction fabric at the base and a softer fabric up high, which, for me at least, aided In mobility and stability of the pants. Reinforced, heavier fabric at the base of the legs on the interior side, and on the base of the cuffs for added durability. Very pleased with the use of materials overall, and I think these will last many seasons in the snow. I find these easy to move around in, and they serve their intended purpose very well. My only real gripe with these is the sizing. I'm 6'0 and ~175 lbs., and these fit aa little snug around the waist. If I keep eating the holiday sweets over the next month +, I may have trouble fitting in these. Comfortably, at least, and I can't really size up or down without running into problems with the inseam.

Great winter gear addition!

Overall these are a great addition to the winter gear. I have now worn these a few times while hiking and splitboarding with temps around the mid to high 30's. They were super comfortable in all conditions and kept me nice and warm with just a pair of base layers underneath. If you do warm up, a large portion of each side unzips to let air in (no mesh). Two huge front pockets just above the knee, i didn't love the placement as anything heavy feels weird when moving, however, i got used to it pretty quick. Suspenders adjust nicely to snug them up to your liking and a ring on one side to clip on gloves or anything else. They do run a bit big, I typically wear a medium in all my snow gear but these are a tad big for me (5'6, 145) in length and width. There is no belt loop on these so I cannot tighten around my waist. Even though these lack a bit of adjustability within the waist, i still gave them 5 stars due to the performance and warmth. A smaller size might fix those problems. Overall, I like these and will be using them all winter!

My new go-to for any resort day.

These bib pants have become my go-to for resort days, whether it's a warm or cold and windy day. The pocket placement is great, and the large vents help in changing conditions. The waterproof and breathable fabric ensures that I stay comfortable during intense ski runs, exerting myself on moguls or dropping down some steep stuff, but also relaxing in the lodge or in the chair. Breathability is easy to adjust with the side vents, which are long enough to come down my entire thigh. There are no vents on the inseam, but I don't miss them. I haven't experienced any wetness, whether from my body's moisture, wet snow, or occasional rain while using them. I've already faced some strong winds, and these bib pants handled it exceptionally well. I felt perfectly comfortable, as good or better than any ski pants I've ever had. The thoughtful design of the First Chair Pants also deserves commendation. The suspenders and adjustable waist make achieving a comfortable and functional fit easy. The articulated knees feel great, providing excellent movement in both tele and standard skiing. I believe they're suitable for extended days in the backcountry if weight isn't a concern, although I haven't had the chance to test them in such conditions. At first, I was put off by the unusual placement of the pockets, but they prove much more convenient on the resort. I store my phone and snacks, and they make retrieving items incredibly convenient—I wouldn't want resort pants without those pocket placements anymore. Regarding sizing, I'm 5'11", typically wearing 32 waist pants. According to the charts, I was between Medium and Small. I went with Medium, and I feel like I could have gone with small, and it would have been fine, although the mediums were also suitable, leaning more towards the loose side, which is beneficial for fitting insulated layers underneath on stormy days. The seat portion of the pants has a brushed tricot lining, making cold (first) chairs comfortable. When I'm tackling snowy slopes, these bib pants have proven to be a reliable companion. They feel durable, have a thoughtful design, and are super comfortable. They have become my go-to choice for any resort outing, and I'm considering testing their backcountry worthiness when the weather allows. The only thing I wish these pants had as an improvement is Recco reflectors, but nothing is ever perfect.

Pretty good overall

Overall pretty solid. The fit was about right for me (somewhat skinny, 30" inseam). Used in multiple conditions, once even in hours of rain/sleet and stayed dry. They use the gtx pfas free fabric which I really like, I'm a little skeptical of the claim but assuming it's true that seems great. It is a thinner fabric though so probably not as durable as a really heavy gtx or something. I don't ski a lot of deep powder so didn't get a lot of use out of the suspenders/height but would probably be nice if you do. Thigh pockets are great for a hand warmers or sandwich, nice that one of them is zippered. Ventilation is pretty good, two way zip is nice. I might have it go down a little bit farther but it's more than enough to dump a good amount of heat. Overall I really like them.

Tough, yet extremely comfortable.

I’ve been skiing my whole life and have had several pairs of ski pants and bibs. These are incredibly comfortable. I love the thick adjustable straps and the elastic waist around the sides and back. The pockets are in front on the legs and not bunched in the waist wear you sit and bend. The other great thing is the high quality material. It’s tough and flexible. I highly recommend.

All-around solid bib offering

I’ve used these bibs a few times now resort skiing, all on-piste, and each time I appreciate them a bit more. Technically, they are solidly built, Gore-Tex lined, and have a lot of features to like including side zippers for access/venting. With the Gore-Tex membrane the shell is waterproof, but I can also confirm the breathability aspect is there as well. The two pockets are on the front which is good for being flexible and not having any items get in your way. One gripe is that only one pocket has a zipper (they both have a small Velcro patch for the flap). I’m guessing the thought here was to have one pocket be quick access for something like a glove stash, but in reality it’s too small for gloves and not secure enough for anything I’d not want to easily lose. The bibs are very warm with a nice comfy lining, and there is a built in gaiter at the ankles to keep out snow. For sizing, I’m 6’0 190 lb and went with a M. Normally I would wear L, but I felt that the length was fine and prefer not to have extra bagginess as long as I can still flex through my normal range of motion. These are both stretchy enough and the suspenders are sturdy and comfortable. I own and have used other bibs, and this offering from REI stands tall.

Excellent uninsulated bib pants for snow adventure

Used for a week in the snow out in Colorado for both backcountry hiking and skiing in backcountry and at a resort. Overall, these pants are excellent. I'm 5'8" and 165lbs and the medium fit pretty well. The length was tad bit long and its a loose fit. The reinforced gaiters at the bottom of the leg prevented the pants from catching on sharp objects (crampons, skis) and I believe will make these pants last longer. These pants are not insulated, so on a cold day, will need to wear a baselayer. The pit zips on the side helped vent during high aerobic activities. The Goretex was excellent, as the waterproofing was as expected and didnt get wet. The front unzips low enough to allow for quick bathroom stops. Would prefer if there was some stretch to the material. I like the bib design, as it helps prevent snow from otherwise entering on lower cut pants. Over the course of the week, these have proven to be durable and I expect to be able to wear them for many seasons. The pockets are on the front thighs, which is somewhat of a strange location, but it didnt end up bothering me and appreciate both the zipper and velcro on those pockets. Overall, fought these to be well made and designed and look forward to using them more in the future.

Dad approved for all cold weather activity

I really like these pants and there is nothing that I have bad to say about them. I took these pants hiding in my local conservation park in cold, wet weather conditions and they performed wonderfully. I’m 6’2’’, 220 lbs with an athletic build. In general, these pants fit securely and don’t construct me, the color scheme is perfect for outdoor/bushcraft activities, and they repel moisture as expected. Typically, I’ve only gotten ski pants that are secured at the waste and “fluffy” (non suspender, non bib) because I find that suspender pants are too hot and restrictive when doing very active cold weather activities. However, these are my first pair of suspender secured ski pants and they are light enough and comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time through heavy activity. I do have an athletic, dad bod build, and they fit snugly, but also are not stiff. The fabric is durable and protective, light weight GoreTex, but it also has ample vents for breathability (long zippers on both sides). I also appreciate the 2 pocket options in the front (thigh high) that are easily accessible and can hold your phone and wallet or snacks. The coverage in the front goes just underneath my chest at its highest point and is easily adjustable with the suspenders to achieve a snug fit. The Midsection is very flexible and lighter mil than the bottom boot cuff which is reinforced to last. I would recommend these pants as they are a very intentional step up from the economical ski pants that are available all over Amazon, however, be sure to invest in good quality thermal pants for underneath and you will be all set. I’m looking forward to taking them skiing when the weather permits this season, but for now hikes in Massachusetts by the water will due.
