Plenty Stable for the Right Folks!
Know what you are buying here. It's short, it's light, the raised seat is super comfortable but it does add instability. If you are not a balanced person or experienced paddler, this one isn't for you. However, if you don't mind moving gently around the deck, then it's a pleasure to operate. The most balanced among us could probably stand up but I personally wouldn't try it and you don't really need to with the comfort offered in the seat. I've had it out a couple times with myself (5'11" 185lbs) and my 40lb 5 year old in front. I didn't see any scupper plugs and had to pick some up so keep that in mind as my kiddo got a little wet sitting down right on top of the two front holes. If you don't need uber stability (longer ride), then scoop this one up!
Most unstable Kayak I've ever owned.
I bought this kayak because of the numerous reviews that described it as "stable". Well, those reviewers either don't know what they're talking about, or they've been paid to write a positive review. I've owned several sit-on kayaks, for lake, river and ocean fishing, and even for abalone diving, and this one is by far the most unstable. My wife had the same response. So unstable I consider it too dangerous to use in any kind of moving water. You cannot lean over, at all, or reach over the side to pick something out of the water, without running a great risk of ending up IN THE WATER. And that's in flat, still water. This kayak has one, and only one, positive feature - its light weight. Which frankly, combined with it's multiple chine design, is what causes its great instability. Beyond that, there's no under deck storage, which I though I could live with in exchange for the light weight - if it had at least a decent amount of stability. it doesn't. Don't buy.
Best for people under 150lbs
Smaller friends enjoy this kayak. I'm 200lbs and it's not stable enough for fishing for me.
Really nice, light weight, affordable kayak.
I have had this kayak for a few years now and I love it. I don't know why some claim it is unstable unless they are used to fishing kayaks that are made to stand in or they are just large people. I'm 5'9", 180 lbs and have never tipped over in this kayak. I have fished out of this kayak with no problems and taken in down rivers with all my camping gear on board. I love how light it is. I'm an average size male and have no problem carrying this overhead and loading on top of SUV by myself. I like the maneuverability of a 10ft kayak for rivers. For lakes, it might not track as well as a longer kayak but you could easily add a skeg to it. It does not come with any storage ports which is understandable for the low price; however, I added a 6" port to the front very easily (probably could have added an 8"). One more thing, I don't use the "smart phone holder" for my phone. I use it to hold a solar power bank so it's charging while I kayak. I find it better to keep my phone in a waterproof lanyard around my neck or clipped to my life jacket or seat.
short trips only.
Purchased spring 2024 used it a number of times on the lower huron river, & a few lakes. Main use is relax & fishing. So this is my 1st purchase of a kayak but not 1st time using one I normaly rented, as some have said this kayak is not very stable. It has roled on me when I was fishing & the tip of my rod snaged on a branch for a meer sec I was sitting not standing. The OEM foot rest are horable they dig into the side of your legs if your tall like me & use the last two & if you wanna replace them it's not simple you'll need a drill & headless rivet gun. No dry bay, so get yourself some dry bags. I guess you could say this is a good trainer for learning balance but I wish I saved my money & got something else.
Good Deal
Good kayak, it took some getting used to because the seat is 3-4" higher than a typical sit on. Great deal with the seat, rod holders and accessory tracks. Very lightweight. I with it had a dry hatch. Water was coming through the scupper holes so I would recommend scupper plugs. I had no issue with water getting in after I installed them. So other than getting used to the higher seat and water up though the bottom this is a great kayak for a good deal.
Lively and Simply Awesome
I'm 5' 9" and around 215 lbs and I think this is one of the best kayaks I have ever paddled. These frame seats are great, but because your center of gravity is higher, they can make smaller kayaks feel tippy. Pelican essentially repurposed a hull from one of their other sit on tops and they have probably over sold the stability. I would describe this boat as lively, with a good responsive feel and adequate stability. If you've ever paddled a canoe, this will feel very stable. However, if you are coming from a sit inside or a sit on top where you sit on the deck of the kayak, this will feel more unstable. The hull is a multichine design and it will roll over to the outside chines when you lean a little too far. This can be an alarming feeling if you aren't expecting it and if you lean too far, you're probably going into the water. This boat reminds me of the Pescador 100 pro I used to have, except that it is 20 lbs lighter! That boat was lively as well and required more discipline when paddling and fishing. I would not recommend this for a new paddler, but this is a great kayak nonetheless. At the current price it is a absolute steal.
Too top heavy! A waste.
Do not waste your money! There is no way you can stand on this thing. The seat was the main reason I bought this as a third Kayak...we ALL hate it and are going to put it on marketplace. The seat makes you too top heavy (couldn't even touch the water and struggled to re-acclimate a bass.) Every trip on calm water anyone that uses this one flips. Pick something else.
Versatile kayak
Tested this pelican angler kayak today. Performed very well Good forward motion and stayed on course with easy paddling Good adjustable seat Lots of added features for fishing pole holders and paddle holders And storage areas with bungee cords on the front and back of kayak
