Works great for my almost 4YO!
I saw the other reviews on here, and wanted to make sure to post my experience which has been great! I have my almost 30lb 4YO daughter riding on this on my Wife's bike. I have already mounted it to both an old Canondale MTB with rack on the back and then just moved it to a Electra Townie cruiser with rack. Installation, once you figure out how to do it, while cumbersome, is easy. (you must unlock with the key AND then push the button where the key went in at the same time as loosening/tightening the rack grips. Once you do it once, it takes about 2 minutes to mount/unmount. My Daughter loves this!
Nice seat
Great seat! Very study and it feels safe for my baby!
BACKORDERED UNTIL FOREVER DO NOT BUY
Ordered this product at the end of Aug for pickup in store. It was on sale. Originally it was supposed to take 2 weeks, then it was delayed to a month, then it was delayed again, to two months. Finally cancelled it, and went to buy it again -- only to find out they have 1 in stock in my local store and REI itself has 5. (I had ordered two) WHY COULDN'T THEY FILL THE ORDER FROM THE ONES IN STOCK? Absolutely no communication the whole time, only when we called them, and no offer to modify it to one so that it would ship faster or ship one first. Very poor service.
Wouldn’t buy again.
The “locking mechanism” on the THILE YEPP NEXXT 2 MAXI rack mount edition is frightening. Is different from models prior, and honestly I’m not sure how it passed a safety standards. The turn key locking feature is wonky, not being able to get full concrete turns, and ultimately with slight pressure the seat slides up the rack. The first time I took my child on it the seat it moved forward 4” after tightening it down as hard as I could after only a short right. The mechanics to hold the seat in place are all my of plastic which wobble around. Honestly it’s scary, I wish had had not spent my hard earned money on this.
Good child seat but could be better
I swapped from a Topeak child seat to this Thule Yepp Nexxt because it is the only child seat that fits on cargo e-bikes. It’s a nice seat and it connects to the back of the cargo bike very easily. I know that this seat is made from a cushy foam, but it’s not padded enough for my son. He kept having red mark on his back by the end of the rides, so I had to add in some additional foam I found online. I also wish that this seat had a crossbar/handlebar like the Topeak. My son really enjoyed holding onto the padded bar. Overall, it’s a good child seat and if you have a cargo bike, it’s really your only option.
Great seat, except for the strap system.
I bought this a couple of months ago so I could use my cycle commute for the daycare run. My son says it's comfortable and enjoys the great lines of site the seat provides (that's the compromise between a seat with head support - often ruins the view to the side). The rack based installation is pretty quick and secure. However, the crank to adjust the clamp feels flimsy - I'm not confident it will last very long - you need to screw pretty tight to keep the clamp from sliding forward on the rack. I am going to try with the bespoke Thule rack and see if the clamp is more secure. So -1 star so far. The biggest downside so far is that the five-point harness does not include a sternum strap or clip, e.g., the fastener across the chest (like car seats have) that keeps the straps on the shoulders. A number of times I have now found my son with the straps down around his arms (see photo). So -1 star for this issue. I'd recommend this product if you're willing to add your own sternum strap. Rating 3/5 stars.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback. Thule child bike seats are manufactured to the same quality standards as the rest of Thule's products and are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. You shouldn't have any problems with the knob, but if it does break, the seat is eligible for replacement under the Thule Guarantee. From the pictures provided, it looks like the straps are sitting too low on your child's shoulders. They should be fitted flush over the shoulders and tightened so they are snug over the torso. If the straps can be moved to the top mounting position, this will help the fit, and allow you to tighten them enough that he cannot slide out easily. If the straps are already at the top connection point on the back of the seat, your child may be too tall to safely ride in the seat. I reached out via email with a few more questions to troubleshoot the fitment!
Nice seat for easygoing bike rides with toddler
Great bike seat for our almost 2 year old. It’s easy to put on the bike and easy to take off. At first our little one was hesitant in it but now he points to the seat when he wants us to take him for bike rides. It’s easy to strap him and and unbuckle as well. My only wish is that it was a different material. It’s a really hard styrofoam type material which is light weight and comfortable but in the event of an accident or fall I don’t know how well it would hold up compared to the seats that are made completely of plastic.
Well built but Could use a little fine tuning
Overall the child seat is well built. Very sturdy once secured to the bike. I would have preferred 2 different positions, like a normal ride and a “sleep” setting for the kid. The one that tilts was out of stock. The locking system is a little cheap but overall it does its job. One thing that really could use an upgrade is the system to tighten the bracket to the bike rack. When turning the knob to tighten it’s very tough to turn and i consistently have to meep “guiding” it.
Convenient but straps loosen
We loved this seat so much until our toddler had a little nap and the straps loosened. When they loosen they slid down her arms. The waist buckle is the same strap as the shoulder so when the shoulder loosens it all does. Her head was at my waist, flopped over and she was falling out. The straps do not stay tight. We added a buckle strap across the chest and did our own addition so the straps can't loosen. It's fine now but very frustrating for the price paid.
Doesn't fit bike, very disappointing
I ride a Radbike Radwagon 4 and this does not fit my bike. I have to use a ratchet strap to hold the seat on. I have the previous version on my wifes bike (same bike) which works great. It locked on tight with no issues. Purchased this thinking the new one would have improvements and was very disappointed. If you are going to buy this do your research to ensure it fits your bike. Dont be like me and assume that if the previous model fits this one would too.
