Great mid-weight thermal layer

Pros: nice mid-weight layer with exceptional breathability. It is a perfect weight for high aerobic in temps 20-40 degrees, hiking or skinning. Hood and thumb holes allow you to turn up the warmth. I like the subdued green color and soft feel of the material. Purchased at a good sale price. Cons: I am giving it a 4 because it is not wash and wear. It needs to be washed in a gentle cycle and laid out to dry rather than thrown in the dryer. I am a little concerned that it will hang on to sweat and odor especially in the back where I always sweat under my pack.

Sheds like crazy, short in body and sleeves

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really wanted to like this. ie Reviews are relatively high, sleeves and body on model look long, +one of very few Marmot garments with wool in it. I wore it for the first time yesterday. I'm 6'2 inches and I found both the sleeves and body too short. Worse is it's shedding like crazy. I purchased the green and something just lying on the sofa (see photo) leaves ALOT of wool behind which must be picked up by hand or a lint roller. This seems really fragile as I wasn't doing anything active. I'm therefore returning it.

Near-perfect; leaves some things to be desired.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got a great deal on this with the winter sale. Design-wise, it lacks some attention to detail, but I like it and would recommend it overall. The wool blend is very light but still quite warm. The large half zip makes things easy. Fits true to size. Given that this could be a mid-layer insulation with the close-fitting hood, a wind flap over the zipper should have been a no-brainer as it comes over the chin just under the mouth. The hanging loop at the back of the neck is extra thick along with a large tag for such a light piece - uncomfortable at best. I really like this color, but there were only two to choose from. A few more options would be a plus. Material wise, I could not find anything similar from other major brands, which is a plus. However, I am not sure it would be worth it at full price given the complaints I have.

If it hadnt been washed I would return it

Very light weight- like half of the material has shed or come out, maybe someone washed it a zillion times and returned it with its tags on - it’s see through like a polyester mesh with a sparing amount of fibers sticking off it- I can’t see how you would be warm wearing this out of the living room

High performance wear designed for the Alpine

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Both the fabric choice and the design choice are spot on. This is a Polartec High Loft with 50% wool blend fabric. I used to wear Polartec Alpha 90g but has always wanted to try some warmer version of their insulation with wool blend. Wool is an amazing material but I find it to be too itchy if manufacture doesnt add some sort of nylon or polyester yarn in it. This fabric seems to hit a sweet spot, giving you both the odor resistance and warmness of wool and the light weight and quick drying property of polyester. Design--wise, it has a long center zip. In practice, I find myself using it almost always at 1/2 when I need to vent: any short it is not effective enough, any longer I need to mess with the hip belt. Also no hand pocket to keep weight down and also kept the waist clean. Paired with a hardshell, this piece is warm enough I no longer need my "active synthetic insulation layer" anymore. All in all, a exceptional technical piece.

Nice and Warm

This is a nice and warm fleece, very lightweight for its warmth to weight ratio. A great layering piece, and can be used stand alone as well. Also great for use as an indoor fleece. It’s actually more than a 1/2 zip, closer to a 3/4 zip which makes it easier to take on and off, and to vent when active, which I like. When I got mine there appeared to be a QC issue, but customer support fixed the issue very quickly, giving me confidence to buy this item again. Like the fact it has natural fibers blended in. Because it’s designed to be more of a light weight active piece it doesn’t have hand pockets, but the chest pocket is nice and deep, big enough for a large phone and wallet. The hood is nicely done, a keeps the neck warm when zipped up, even when hood is off. Personally I would like some hand pockets, at the cost of some additional weight, with a mesh lining. Using mesh would help keep the weight down and add additional ventilation when the pockets were unzipped.

Warm and comfortable

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this wool hoody! I wore it under a jacket to an NFL game and stayed very warm without itching, I liked it so much I bought another in the other color. I have started a new job working with horses and people doing therapy, this will be my go too to keep warm

Exceptionally comfortable light mid-layer.

I absolutely love this hoodie! It is surprisingly warm for how thin and light it is. If it has a downside, it's that it does zero to block wind, but that's not its job. If you are just looking for a comfortable mid layer this is a winner.

Awesome product at an awesome price and simply couldn’t pass it up. Specifically searched for a hoodie with the Polartec fabric properties and REI had this item at an incredible discounted price. So cool!
