High quality - atypical fit

Firstly, out of the box, this helmet met my expectations for Smith helmets. The color and and material were visually and textually high quality. The mixed mips and open cells is a nice change from all of one or the other allowing increased breathability and accessing to itch when the bugs inevitably fly in. I normally wear a medium to small/medium Smith helmet. This one was way off though. It sits very high for a small and I found it uncomfortable compared to other road and mountain bike small sized Smith helmets. For the right head geometry, this could be a great helmet. Try it on before purchasing.

Safe and comfortable helmet for MT Biking

The Smith Triad Mips Bike Helmet is a great addition for your upcoming singletrack adventures. The straps are comfortable and dialing in the right fit is simple. The XL was the right size for my head and I appreciate the antimicrobial features. The added safety of the MIPS and Koroyd are reassuring when bombing hills in the woods. I greatly value my brain, so keeping it safe is something I look for in a bike helmet. Good ventilation and a cool look in matte black.

Forgot I was wearing a helmet!

What a fantastic helmet! I took this to the TD Five Boroughs Bike Tour in NYC and it was fantastic for the 40 mile ride. The size guide was spot on; the fit was perfect (L for a hat size of 7 5/8”). I normally get tired of wearing a bike helmet, even in short rides around town, but this was feather light and obviously full of technology. I couldn’t be happier with this excellent helmet from Smith!

Comfortable, good-looking, and safe helmet

First a disclaimer: I own several other Smith helmets — a road helmet that's probably six or seven years old, a "townie" commuter helmet, and a newer MTB helmet with a visor. (I also own several pairs of Smith sunglasses). So I am a bit of a fan of Smith products and this Triad Mips bike helmet did not disappoint. The matte black finish looks good and stealthy, though it may be a bit warm in summer months. However, the helmet is well vented so that should help. The fit is comfortable and easy to adjust with a dial adjustment in the back. The straps were easy to adjust as well. Another nice feature is you can "park" your sunglasses in the venting holes on the sides. Of course, the most important thing about helmet is that it protects your noggin. This helmet features the Mips brain protection system, which should be standard on every helmet. As the specs say, it reduces rotational forces caused by angled impacts to the head. And it has a honeycomb-like material called Koroyd that helps to absorb impacts (and provides venting). To summarize: This is a versatile, good-looking, lightweight, and safety-enhanced helmet that will protect your head when you're out on the road or trail.

Light, airy, and technical helmet

My new favorite helmet! First ride of the year so I was extra warm, thankfully the helmet has incredible venting. Very lightweight, a clean style, and all the safety features! Fit was true to size; adjustability, comfort, and straps all felt great. Construction and quality seems top notch, but no surprise from Smith.

Perfect fitting bike helmet

This bike helmet fit perfectly. Almost like it was a customized helmet made for me. Durable and the strap worked well with the shape of my head. I've worn other helmets and the strap sometimes cut into my face but this one was perfect.

Great Protection and a Very comfortable Helmet

I received this helmet for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I really like my Smith mountain bike helmet so I was excited to try this road version. My mountain helmet also uses MIPS and Koroyd technology and it’s a good advancement in technology. I’ve tested Smith’s technology first hand on my mountain bike (ran smack into an 4 inch limb that fell across the trail) and can attest to helmet’s ability to absorb and distribute forces. Fortunately, I have no mishaps to report on my road bike. I really like my old MIPS helmet, but this one offers a couple of other advantages in addition to the improved crash protection. This helmet has a slightly smaller profile than my old helmet (about a 1/2 inch) which is noticeable, weighs about 30 grams less (339g vs 368g), and wraps the nylon straps around the plastic chin strap holders which is more comfortable. I added a couple of pictures for reference. The Koroyd is an open honeycomb structure and has minimal impact on airflow and cooling. The only negative I would raise is that there is no attachment point for a light or a camera on this helmet as compared to my mountain helmet.

All Around Good Helmet

This helmet was pretty comfortable. The adjustments were easy and quick to make. I let my 12 yr old daughter try it and we were able to adjust on the fly in less than a minute. The quick adjust wheel in the back is nice. I felt safe with this helmet because of the Mips. It's light weight and comfortable.

Light, good airflow, invisible in the dark

I have been using this to commute to work, and as much as you can like a piece of PPE, I do like it! It's light, and the straps are perfectly positioned to secure the helmet under my chin. This is important; a lot of cyclists and scooter-riders wear helmets that are likely as not to fly off their heads in a bad accident. I have a somewhat small head for an adult, but nothing too unusual, and the Medium fits just fine; it only needed a minor adjustment. Small is probably for adolescents. If you look at my pictures, you can see that the padding is removable, so you can wash it if you need to. You only get the one set. More importantly, the protective material you can see filling up the "vents" is honeycombed. This means you have pretty comprehensive protection but also some air flow. The one thing I don't like is how matte it is. I feel it might mark up easily, and there isn't the slightest nod to safety with a reflective sticker or anything. But I can add something reflective on my own.

Preferred Tornado Protection!

I can only give my highest compliments to the genius who designed this helmet. I love riding my bike when the weather is good which is unfortunately not what I have had in the last few months of existing in the Midwest. I have had about 3 hours of total riding experience with the helmet after receiving and honestly forgot I was wearing a helmet most days. You know that rubbing from the chin strap? They're smooth and dont rub. You know those pokey plastic spots that scrape your scalp? There aren't any. Its smooth to the touch. You know how the straps loosen? The buckles have grip that doesn't allow them to wobble. Most recently, we had a tornado touchdown in my hometown. The first thing i grabbed? This helmet. I strapped it down and hunkered through the sirens. I had no worry that it would protect my melon in a bike crash or a tornado. Its hard to review a helmet because they are always specific to a person. I haven't ever encountered a great plug and play helmet like this before. Pick this helmet over any other. *attached picture shows the funnel of a tornado forming in the field behind me*
