Very poor quality
These shorts are either used or so old and broken down in integrity it is like they are used. The logos are worn (not an issue for me, just an indication of age) and they are virtually see through upon arrival.
Don’t buy these shorts
Do not recommend these shorts at all. I’ve got multiple pairs of Pearl Izumi shorts from over the years. Usually any issue I have relates to them riding up so this time I went for a longer length- these fit great in the legs. When I did a ride I found the padding to be a major issue! I’ve never had this issue with their shorts before. The padding is so wide it folds over in the crotch and leads to a really uncomfortable ride- terrible!
Maybe For Rides Less Than 30 Miles???
Maybe these will work for short rides like less than 30 miles. Maybe some people's bodies would fit theses shorts. I did hesitate to purchase because of some of the negative reviews talking about "bunching of material causing chafing" but in store trying them on, the felt fine. And there were a good many positive reviews. After 30 miles, the pad began bunching in the front causing big chafing. Do NOT purchase these shorts unless you plan very short rides. The positive reviews must be coming from people using them on the Peleton or in spin classes.
do not buy
These shorts have inadequate padding on the butt, and a wad of extra padding that bunches up in front. I honestly stopped to check and see if I had put them on backwards. I had not. They're just made wrong. I've owned lots of bike shorts, including shorts from this brand that I liked a lot, and I've never worn anything so awful.
Wadded pad no good
The Lycra shirts fabric is super stretched when pad is sewn in resulting in the pad buckling up into the riders body. When riding, that bulk translates into too much fabric chafing and causing hot spots . This is the second style from Pearl Izumi I have tried with the same result. Their designers need to rethink the manufacturing process. The shorts fabric was nice and supportive, but not wearable with how the pad is sewn in.
ouch!
The chamois on these shorts is horribly uncomfortable, in so many ways. The fabric is rough, the shape of the foam is aggressively weird.
Not the best
I don't recommend these. The padding is uncomfortable and bunches up in weird spots when riding. I was only on mile 5 when I started to feel uncomfy and tried to shift around but didn't help. There are better options at this price point.
Great bike shorts!!!
Very comfortable. Just wore them the first time today. We’re new at riding bikes again after many years of not riding. We rode a little more than 16 miles today on my new bike I bought from REI on Memorial Day. I don’t think I could have done it without the padded shorts. Amelia suggested sizing up and she was right. I normally wear a small in street clothes but bought a medium in these and very happy I did. Thanks Amelia!!!
Youch!
I received these as a gift and appreciated the inseam length and overall appearance on first glance. The first and only time I wore them mountain bike riding, within about 2 hours I began experiencing some serious chafing issues caused by the chamois bunching up in a place where you do not want to chafe! We were too far out to turn back (and didn't want to end our ride early because we had driven four hours to get to this place), so I rode another 2 hours becoming increasingly uncomfortable. I was extremely uncomfortable by the time we got back to the car, including when I was simply walking. We had only 2 days to ride, and even with a different pair of bike shorts the next day I was in a lot of pain. It took another day to feel normal again. I am sorry, Pearl Izumi, but a woman who actually rides should test your shorts before they go for sale. This chamois bunching problem seems to be a common complaint.
Good fit and comfort
I just used these on my first ride, which was about 5 miles. They were a great fit for me. The padding provided cushion in all the right spots and the band was comfortable. I saw someone was concerned that their logos are worn off. Mine looked the same way so I think the worn look was intentional. .
