Nice knee length shorts ( but tight fit)

I’ve worn pearl izumi attack shorts for the past 10 years. These are my initial thoughts after 3-4 20 mile rides. The good news: they look great out of the box, better than 2021 version. ( I.e material thinner but feels better. Chamois pad good but stitching not as good as 2015 version) Note they reach down to just above the knee. Didn’t bother me but.. The bad news: Man are they a tight fit ( and no I’ve not put on weight) not sure if they cut down material or they don’t stretch as much. Note material change 80% polyester, 20% spandex ( vs 80% nylon ,20% elastane) . Conclusion : You may need to go up a size for this version. I took off 1 star due to unexpected fit.

Way Too Small - Unwearable

Super tight fit makes these almost unwearable. I've been wearing Pearl Izumi clothing since the 1990s and never had a problem with sizing, but these are way way too tight. The material in these short is not super stretchy, so I had to squeeze into these. First ride I wound up chafing because I couldn't get the pad positioned right, and I never chafe. I've bought lots of cycling clothes from various brands in 35 years of riding bikes, and have never had a problem like this. I'm not sure what Pearl Izumi was thinking this time, but they clearly got it wrong.

More impressed than I expected

I thought bike shorts were silly and I still do. But bike shorts with padding I like. There’s a second saddle, sort of, built into the shorts and the product photos don’t show it. I would get these again with one caveat. I need pockets. I hate that they don’t include one at all, big enough for my phone when walking. Add that and I get it. important to know, measure your waist with a tape measure and buy to that number. Get the size that is going to fit towards the bottom or middle of the size range. The elastic works so you want it to fit or stretch, not to be tight. I have a 38” waist and bought the XL and they fit perfect.

Comfortable shorts

Great pair of shorts. I used to ride in gym shorts or sweatpants in the winter without issue for shorter rides (15-35 miles). I have been getting into longer rides (50+ miles) and these definitely help. I had tried some cheaper bibs and shorts, but most of the ones i tried wore out super quick and you can tell they are budget friendly. These shorts have great padding and are extremely comfortable. The materials are definitely premium and in the few rides i have taken them on, you can barely tell they are worn. Instructions say they can be machine washed but drip dry only. I am lazy and threw them in dryer anyway, and saw no adverse results.

good padding. missing pockets

I haven't had a bike in a long time so when I got back it hurt quite a bit. I figured getting a new saddle would solve the problem but the guy at rei suggested getting some padded shorts instead. The stock was a bit low and after trying on a medium I learned I was a large. They fit will so they came home with me. I got a chance to use them earlier this week and they made a big difference. I have a pretty boney butt so riding for around an hour hurt. After using these pants the only thing holding me back was being tired. I wish they had pockets. I have a number of fanny packs so I can use one of those. It might work out even better in the long run.

Sizing was weird

Compared to other models/designs of this same brand, sizing was different. I am a small in one model, and definitely *not* a small in this model (more a medium). Otherwise, good material, better than I've used before.

Very small tight fit

these cycling shorts run very small. Says form fit on tag and believe me they are very tight. I am not overweight at all, 5'9" 155 lbs. and they are difficult to pull on. They are not like previous attack shorts I've had before. I will need to send them back. Maybe they sent wrong shorts.

Great for protecting your bottom!

The padding in these cycling shorts is awesome! It is well engineered to protect the rider from the impacts of the bicycle seat, especially when riding a hardtail. My goal was to make my ride less painful and this made my rides so much better. The material is really high quality. Only downside I found is that due to the weight of the padding, it's best to hand wash and air dry rather than throwing in the laundry.

Very different than the past style of same shorts

The shorts run very small to size and the padding surface has changed from one smooth surface to stitches as part of the padding. Exchanged for larger size, REI's return policy is excellent.

Worth the money

Chamois padding is an upgrade over my prior PI attack shorts. Rides of 30 miles are more comfortable. The silicone leg grippers are holding tight as expected. Guess I’ve worn out my prior pairs. I ride avg 3x weekly outdoors.
