Great terrain sandals
Great terrain sandals fits the description of this Mogami pair. These sandals were tested on soft ground such as gravel, dirt, grass, and sand as well as city concrete. Mogami sandals feel great, almost not noticeable that you are wearing them on soft ground. First impression that comes to mind is the rugged design, the sole thread and stiffness give it right away. That being said, they are super grippy, couldn’t slip on any surface. The Polyurethane feels slippery at first but it is not the case. Being barefoot, the foot doesn’t slide, and tested with DarnTough socks as pictured, same result. Upon doing some research into the materials used, the Birko-Flor is a well made synthetic material where inside layer that touches your feet feels suede-ish, very comfortable and does not rub out. There was an initial concern for the front strap plastic pin that touches your toes, that it might feel uncomfortable and few many miles, that was not the case here. The hook-and-loop backstrap is a nice feature. After few adjustments of front two straps, leave them set and undo the back one for easy access. During testing, my Achilles never felt itchy, or pressed, to be uncomfortable. Another great design feature. Cleaning is super simple, spray it with water and let it air dry or use a damp towel and wipe it off. There are many positives to this simple pair but also a couple of little negatives. To start off, this pair, barefoot, is not comfortable walking on concrete for extended periods of time and this is due to the ruggedness of the sole and stiffness of footbed. The arches provide a lot of feedback. Wearing compression socks with some cushioning, negated this feeling to some degree. If you might consider this pair for city walking, this is not the pair. When ordering Birkenstock, it is best to go to the store to get a measurement first since sizing runs a size too small compared to other brands. The front lip of the footbed, if you do not adjust the straps correctly for secured feel, will make one of your toes keep hitting the lip. This review is coming unbiased from a person that never wears sandals. This pair will come handy on my adventures that I partake yearly so it is nice knowing there is a brand such as Birkenstock that can make a great product.
Comfortable and true to size
These are comfortable out of the box and fit true to size. They are very lightweight, so great for kicking around the house in or running errands. Haven’t yet had occasion to wear them in the water or wet conditions, but they look like they will be good for that as well, although nothing where you need grippy soles; these are just casual shoes.
Snazzy and durable with great traction.
I loved my previous pair of Birkenstock for comfort, but the cork required continued maintenance and they had to be resoled at one point. If you like the comfort of Birkenstock but want a more durable sole with more traction, this would be a great shoe for you. The Mogami has a durable rubber sole with all terrain traction. As always, its best to get the Birkenstocks at an REI store to make sure you have a custom fit. I received these in the winter and they were fine to wear with a pair of warm socks.
Versatile Sandals
I have been wearing these everywhere you would typically wear a pair of sandals, and they perform great. I found zero traction issues when exploring around the lake, thanks to the aggressive soles and the rear heel strap. I found they don’t absorb much water, and they float which are awesome for water related activities. I have also been using them casually. Having non metallic buckles make for excellent sauna footwear. Being Birkenstocks they’re comfortable and just as much at home in a canoe as hanging around a fire making s’mores with the kids.
Hiked all over Hawaii 🌈🌴
I took these Birkenstocks on our trip to the Big Island of Hawaii and wore them almost exclusively the entire time. We went on some pretty good hikes on trails, through mud and lava rock wearing and they worked so well. Comfortable, good traction, ZERO blisters. I even wore them to church on Sunday. Highly recommend. They might be a little on the larger size, but I liked having that space that I could tighten the back of Velcro when I want them tighter or loosen it up when I just wanted them to be pretty loose. Being able to adjust with the Velcro is a nice feature for comfort.
Excellent traction and surprisingly easy to clean
These are the Birk's you wear when it will be wet. I wore them without socks in the rain to do shopping and errands. And when I forgot my trail runners, I used these to run 4.5 miles in wet, hilly trails of mostly hard pack dirt and sometimes mud. At one point I had a quarter of an inch of mud caked on the bottoms. But by the time I returned to the start over some grass and also road, they were completely clean. I carry bags for my dirty trail shoes and with these, I didn't even need to slam them together after the run because they had shed ALL of the mud. Others were in disbelief at how clean they were. Others running with me commented on the amazing traction on slick slopes as well as how they were somehow clean at the end! Alas, these aren't runners, and I was felt it later for sure. They're heavier than many lesser sandals, but they provide more protection when hiking on rocks that would otherwise be poking at your soles. They aren't my first choice for comfort in everyday wearing but they are my first choice for comfort in wet or mud. Both the traction and their release of mud are impressive.
Excellent sandals with bomber construction.
These sandals are very sturdy, well made, and feel as if they will last quite awhile. I have a VERY low volume, narrow foot and these with some adjustment fit me very well. If you have a wide foot I bet these would fit even better. These are true to size, a bomber thick sole and tread that grips very nicely on all surfaces I’ve tried. The three straps are good after I broke in the rear one and added one hole to each strap to accommodate my low volume feet. I’ve stubbed my foot hard in these and the sole was robust enough to keep my toes undamaged. There is a bump that is designed to separate your big toe from the rest and that I’m slowly crushing to be flat and is my only complaint. I received these as part of a promotion but I wholeheartedly recommend and I would buy them myself. For reference I have teva, Birkenstock, Ecco, olukai and other sandals and these are higher quality than most of mine. Like a bomber cross of teva and Ecco’s. IMO.
Good Quality Lightweight Sandals
At first glance, these sandals seem well-made and fairly lightweight, so I would recommend them for backpacking or travel. They are adjustable and relatively comfortable, with no pinching or rubbing. I took a 3-mile walk and a short jog, on both pavement and gravel. I would imagine they would hold up well on a light hike or wading through water. Probably not meant for more challenging hikes or rough terrain. Dirt hosed off easily and they dried up quickly. Personally, I liked the styling.
Happy Feet!
Birkenstock’s Mogami Sandals have been designed and constructed to feel amazingly comfortable while looking fantastic. Blending the timeless Birkenstock look with new materials, this product takes me from the water to dinner in style. Beach, Pool, Kayak, Restaurant . Mogami sandals are indestructible fashion. The sandals are true to size, adjustable straps provide stability and the cushy, moulded footbed is classic Birkenstock. I would definitely recommend.
Wanted to love these
I got these because as I was in need of some sandals and going on a trip. These could’ve been a nearly perfect product, if not for the shape. I have worn birks before, and I needed a size 2 sizes smaller than my usual 11s. The problem came from the size of the toebox. Along the outside of the toes, my foot ran into the sidewall, which is maybe 1/4-1/2 of an inch high. This lead to a sharp pain and a blister. Essentially the wide was not wide enough. Length was perfect, and if it wasn’t for this problem I would’ve loved it. I won’t be wearing these anymore. Try in store before you buy.
