It's okay for poolside style and not much walking
This is not the most comfortable Birkenstock sandals. The insole is hard and has zero shock absorption. The style is nice with the adjustable straps but functionally it's really just good for the pool side or on a very short sandy beach stroll. Not pleasant to walk on hard surfaces like pavement or even indoors.
A very versatile Birk!
I have given these a good test run before review and can say that these are a fantastic option for bringing my favorite Birkenstocks to a more adventurous outdoor setting. They are not going to mold to your feet as Arizonas do, but the footbed is working perfectly for my wide foot that needs good support. Increased versatility by the addition of an easy to adjust Velcro strap. The waterproof straps don’t look or feel plastic-y or rubber-like, and I love the rugged look of the black sole. When traveling these will be a one and done option for both outdoorsy activities and for pairing with any casual outfit for dinners, museums, etc. If needed for warmth, could pair with socks. I just love the versatility of this shoe and would definitely recommend to fans of traditional Birks!
Birkenstock Does it Again
I love these shoes. So lightweight and versatile. Wore them on a hike with and without socks and no blisters or rubbing after eight miles. They also performed great negotiating slippery rocks and getting up and down steep wet leafy inclines. Dried quickly when I stepped into a mud puddle and hosed off to like new when I got home. The ankle strap makes them more secure than their more well known Birkenstock cousins, so my feet didn’t slip in the shoe - often a problem with sandals made from this material. Super lightweight and durable, so I can see them doubling up as water shoes and an easy addition for backpacking trips. Plus they have a slightly textured built-in footbed so there’s some arch support. They run true to size, but the adjustable straps meant I could custom fit them to the condition of my feet that day. The fun color means I would also be happy slipping these on for a night out (yep, they’re THAT comfy), which makes them all-purpose for traveling. A terrific addition to the Birkenstock oeuvre. Five stars!
Cute but didn’t work for me
These are cute and durable looking and I really wanted them to be my new favorites. But…they must have ran small. If your foot slides forward the edge is really hard and uncomfortable. The material looks great I did have issues with the back strap. The Velcro didn’t seem to hold the strap tight. I would have liked to tried them in a different size but that wasn’t an option. I hope they work out the kinks with the strap and footbed these could be a keeper if they tweak them just a bit.
Wish I could love it
I want to love these! I do! Issue is a design flaw. The good - the material used for this shoe is really durable and exactly what one needs for outdoor adventures. It is soft for the skin and tons of cusion. Love that you can adjust based on if your foot is a little wide. The bad - there is a "lip" where your toes will touch the tip of the shoe causing your toes to jam/push into the lip everytime you step down making it uncomfortable. Even had someone who is a smaller shoe size than me try it and it was the same issue. The "arch" support is not where the arch is at least not mine and creates an awkward lump under your foot
same as Arizona’s but with hiking soles- fantastic
fantastic! fit just like regular arizona’s but with the hiking sole- what’s not to like? i disagree with other reviews who say they run big or are uncomfortable- as someone who wears traditional birks all the time these immediately fit like a glove. the material of the uppers is flexible and supple -doesn’t cut into the skin- and the sole is your traditional hiking sole. i just picked them up and have been wearing around the house so will report back if any troubles on hikes but i HIGHLY doubt it! thanks Birkenstock for bringing a product to the market that is the best of both worlds!
Good wide sandals for water use but not daily wear
I was very excited for these -- Birkenstocks I can wear in the rain! -- but unfortunately they lack what makes Birkenstocks great, namely a comfortable footbed. For water sports, these are great. They're waterproof, easy to wash off, and they have good traction in the mud. Plus, the straps don't need to be broken in like on leather Birks. Unfortunately, the footbed is made of a hard plastic material with no give. That's fine around the house or in the water, but not for daily wear on pavement and asphalt. Would I wear these to go kayaking? Definitely. The sole is tough enough to stand up to whatever I might step on as I launch. Would I wear them to run errands in town? Unfortunately not. And they're too expensive to be glorified water shoes. It's a shame as they're the only waterproof sandals I've tried that are actually wide enough for my feet and toes.
Runs big, but perfect Birks for wet days!
I'm a big Birkenstock fan, so I was super excited to test out a trail-ready pair! The fit is similar to the classic Arizonas, but runs much bigger than expected--my 38 Arizonas fit my heels just right, but these are quite a bit longer than anticipated (see pics). If you're not used to Birkenstocks, the lip at the front may feel a little odd at first. Overall, the fit may feel a little off at first and they definitely run big but the fit is pretty classic Birkenstock, so if you're used to Birks these will feel familiar. I spent some time grocery shopping, around the yard, etc. with these, then took them for a test hike with socks. My feet slid around a bit due to the sizing, but there were no blisters or pain. They've got a pretty aggressive tread, and I was impressed by how stable they felt, especially through some slippery and muddy sections. With Arizonas, I sometimes feel like my foot has to curl and grip the footbed a little bit to stay on, but the ankle strap on these solves that problem for me. These might be my go-to sandals on grey days or days on the water, because having Birkenstocks that won't slide on wet ground or be ruined by rain is super exciting.
They have potential!!!
I got these in whale gray, which online looks like a taupe/mushroom color— but in real life, it’s a very cool toned light gray. So if you like light gray, you’ll be happy. I am a huge Birkenstock fan. I wanted to try these for a hike in Hawaii where we would be in and out of mud and water. First of all, I ordered based off of my US women’s size (I’m about a ladies 9.5). I typically wear an EU 39 but the chart said to order an EU 40. They are HUGE on me and I definitely should have stayed with the 39s. Secondly, the arch support isn’t as prominent as it is in a typical Birkenstock sandal…but still adequate. I thought the soles have nice sturdiness but still flexible. However, I think any tiny sticks, leaf bits, or gravel on the trail will be hard to “shake out” of these sandals due to the edges/lip that surround your foot. I think these would be better suited for kayaking vs trail hiking. Think I’m going to return these and stick to my Chacos for the trail. Also, the back strap across the heel is pretty stiff. Hope this helps!!!
When comfort meet style and requirements all in 1!
I love Birkenstock products and loved to try new sandals for beach or hiking and water proof - I jumped on oprotunity to buy them before they was even available on Birkenstock web! I travel to Mexico a week ago and spend more then few days in them - walking around town, and also on beach ! What a dream ! The light and super easy put on and off, they dry very fast and most of all - super comfortable! And know that they have support for my legs and my back huge plus for me ! So hands down- it will be my pair to go when I go hiking and need to bring water shoes or just dink around town! Yes yes yes ! They true to the size and best part of you have wide foot - it is one for you!
