Sizing Notes

For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

Mixed thoughts on these shoes

Mixed thoughts on these shoes. These shoes are definitely a tighter fitting, more minimalist style of outdoor running shoe which I do prefer, however, the overall structure of the shoe does not make it the most comfortable running I’ve ever worn. The most uncomfortable feature is the stretchy heel part (I’ve included a photo). I’ve tried using these shoes with both long, thick, and short socks and the top of the shoe still digs in to my heel. The toe part is a bit tight, but still fairly comfortable. I would probably not be inclined to wear these too often unless I found the right pair of socks to wear with them or somehow broke them in more.

My new favorite Trail Runner!

I recently tried the La Sportiva Levante Women's trail shoes, and they have exceeded all my expectations. As an avid hiker and trail runner, I demand performance, comfort, and durability from my footwear, and the Levante delivered on all fronts! Comfort: As soon as I put the shoes on I noticed the comfortable toe-box. As I was hiking and running I was really able to expand/stretch the balls of my feet which was a welcomed relief compared to other trail runners I've tried. The shoe really molds to your feet, offering exceptional support without sacrificing flexibility. I also really like the closed sock around your ankle. This helped keep out debris and dirt from getting inside my shoes. I'm a size 7.5 in women's shoes and these were an exact fit. If you are between sizes I would consider going one size up. But all in all my feet were happy mile after mile! Durability/Performance: After several months of use, the Levantes still perform like new. The shoe materials and reinforced toe box have withstood my wear, and I appreciate the attention to detail that La Sportiva has put into ensuring their longevity. The traction is outstanding, and the outsole provides great grip on a variety of terrains, from muddy trails to slicker rocks/gravel. Plus, the waterproof membrane kept my feet dry in slushy wintery conditions. The La Sportiva Levante Women's hiking shoes are a top-notch investment for any outdoor enthusiast. With unmatched comfort, stellar performance, and exceptional durability, these shoes have become my go-to for all my hiking/trail running adventures.

Great trail shoe — supportive and lightweight

I really like these shoes. I previously had Salomon Sense Ride 4 trail runners; the LA Sportiva Levante rides similarly but they're lighter, more breathable, and more responsive. The angled upward toe minimizes tripping on rocks or uneven ground, and the shoes have a minimalistic feel that rocks the foot forward. I usually run with my laces loose, so the cupped ankle elastic is a great feature; it provides stability, keeps the shoe in place even w/o tight laces, and prevents small rocks, pine needles, and gravel from getting in. I like that I can sense the terrain underfoot when wearing these. The shoes also have a wide toe box which I appreciate so I can spread my toes when I run. I run in a variety of conditions, from rainy days on muddy trails in the PNW to dirt and gravel-packed roads to rocky paths, and my typical run is 5 miles. These trail runners have been great across different terrain and on longer distances too. They take some breaking in; I had some discomfort on early use but it went away over time (loosening the laces helped). The shoes have short laces which prevents tripping, but I wish they had a laces holder or lanyard style of lacing to make me feel more secure that they won't come untied on longer runs. I also wish they had a loop or tab on the back to put them on; it's possible that pulling them on by the elastic ankle part will stretch it out over time. I wore low-cut socks the first time I took these shoes on a run and got a blister on my ankle, so make sure you have ankle-cut or trainer socks. Overall this is a great shoe and I look forward to continue to put the miles on them.

Great concept but not for me

I really wanted to like these shoes. We have very sandy roads and lots of pine needles on the trails. I ofter have to stop to remove debris from around my ankles. These shoes have an added internal semi-gator coming up from the edge that hugs your ankles and stops debris from getting into your shoe. I got a size 7 since this is my normal running shoe size. From the beginning, it was a tight fit. I don't know if it is the last or the size but they are very tight around my whole foot. The first couple of days I just used them for walking. They rubbed my achilles pretty good. I tried thinner and thicker socks. Same thing happened with both of them. I was hoping that I just had to break them in a little. I tried running on a trail but after about 1/2 mile, I had to stop. Maybe if I had an 1/2 size bigger, this wouldn't be an issue as I do like the concept.

Raw heels from first mile of run - almost good

I really wish these had worked for me. While I love the look, the wide toe box, and that it feels like a durable shoe, I had to end my run early because the ankle part was SO tight and had so much rubbing on the back of my heel that I couldn't wait to get home to take them off. On appearance: The shoes have a very cool look and have the appearance of a climbing shoe. I really like the gray/blue with orange accent and thought they looked great while wearing. I also really like the rubber sole that comes up over the toe box to avoid some water leaking in from snow and small puddles on the ground. On fit: I believe the shoe is true to size and they are very light. I have wide feet and felt like the standard size 8 provided plenty of room for a solid running shoe. They were very comfortable to stand in and had good support for my slightly high arches. They were, however, very hard to put on because the ankle/sock part was super tight which wasn't convenient, but also proved to be a big issue when running. I wish that the ankle part was looser so you could choose the tightness using the laces, because I'm just stuck with a too-tight ankle on an otherwise perfectly fitting shoe. On performance: The back of the heel is very stiff and curved inward towards my heel (see photo for the heel shape) which immediately began rubbing my skin raw resulting in a shortened run and heel blisters for the next week. I was wearing cushioned mid-calf running socks, so I'm not confident other socks would solve anything. It hurt badly while running and while walking after I abandoned the run. Everyone's feet/ankles/legs are different so these may work for others, but I don't recommend based on my experience. I really want to make these work but the ankle part is just way too tight, and the heel is too stiff. After my heels recover I plan to give them another shot to see if they need breaking in, but I'm worried that the process will be painful.

Lifesavers!!!

These are BANGER!! I live in NYC and got these in hopes to hit trails, or what we have for trails in Central Park. They arrived and two days later we got a dump of snow, so I whipped these puppies out and they were a lifesaver!!!! It was slushy, so no need for crampons, and these held up and held me up very well.

Great shoes, but not for me.

These shoes - I wanted to love them. There are a lot of things that they do really well. But at the end of the day, these shoes are not going to be my go to choice. Let’s start with the things they do really well: the toe box on this shoe is reinforced with a hard plastic piece to protect your toes if you kick something. I really liked this! It didn’t feel like my toes were jammed up against it ever, and it helped me have piece of mind over some rockier terrain. Another thing I liked about the shoe is how cushy of a ride they give. These shoes are following the high foam trend and they feel like landing on clouds, it was comfortable and helped my joints have less fatigue on hard trails. This was less important when running on muddier trails, but still felt really nice! A feature of note that I was indifferent about was the sock like closure around the ankle. It helped keep dirt out, but made it slightly more difficult to put my shoes on. Finally, the reasons these shoes are not going to be my go to choice. These shoes just don’t fit the anatomy of my feet very well. They have a very narrow heel cup and felt like it was pinching on the sides of my heel. There is ample cushioning in the heel, but even that wasn’t enough to make the shoe feel comfortable for me. The other thing I didn’t love about the shoes was the narrow base. For a high cushion shoe, I felt like I was wearing a pair of high heels. I would have liked to have a slightly wider base, especially in the heel, to make this shoe feel more stable side to side.

Unbelievably light yet grippy and supportive

I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. My first impression was that these things are incredibly light. I was skeptical that anything this light cold be durable and supportive. Durable remains to be seen, because I've only had a chance to use them a handful of times, but supportive they most certainly are. I was also skeptical about the elastic cuff. I thought it would suck my socks down into the shoe, which I hate. But I was wrong about that too. In fact, the reverse is true. As long as the socks are long enough to extend above the cuff, they stay in place. And did I mention they're comfy? The lacing works well with no spots, the ball area of the foot is held well, the heel stays put and the toe box is nice and roomy. It's a wettish winter here in the SF Bay Area, which means wet rocks and wet roots. I don't know what the sole is made of, but the grip is really, really good. In summary, color me impressed!

Striking Style Meets Durability!

I excitedly received the Levante trail running shoe & used it immediately on a trail run in Oregon. This time of year our trails are muddy and scattered with loose rocks causing hazards. This shoe stood up beautifully; which I honestly wasn't expecting due to how stylish they looked. Usually you get one or the other. I was also pleasantly surprised how supported my ankle felt, I have an old injury that does not do well with flimsy soles of traditional running shoes. I feel confident in these and the quality looks as though they will hold up for the long haul of PNW use!

Painful, poorly designed shoe

I was very excited to try the new La Sportiva Levante trail shoes. A performance shoe that actually took female physiology into account? Sign me up. Out of the box these shoes are sharp. The look makes them easy to transition to about-town wear, rather than being relegated exclusively for runs. I was surprised to see there was no apparent way to attach gaiters to the shoes. Then again, they've been made with an elastic covering around the ankle, so maybe a gaiter would be superfluous? When I put them on I enjoyed how the shoebed hugged my foot. I have larger/wider feet, so it's always a toss up whether a shoe is going to be too narrow for me. Despite the fact that these were made for women, and women generally have more narrow feet, my boat-sized flippers fit in just fine. I decided to take the shoes out for a 2 mile walk before hitting the nearby trail for a proper run. I'm so relieved I did, because there was an immediate problem with these shoes: pain. Now, I wore these on a dry day, with tall, technical hiking socks. Neverthless, about a quarter mile into my walk I noticed heel & ankle discomfort. I figured the shoes were simply breaking in, though I've never had this kind of discomfort with any other inaugural walk. I walked my entire 2 mile route, but in the end I was limping. I took the shoes off and saw giant blisters on the backs of both ankles. I'm so relieved I didn't immediately take these for a run, because the injury would likely have been so much more severe. I think the problem is the construction of the back of the shoe: it and the elastic top are too hard and have no give. The repetitive motion of walking and running, then, are not suited to the shoe. This was incredibly disappointing, because they are good looking shoes, but I could never put my feet back inside them. Maybe La Sportiva can redesign the shoe, but I wouldn't recommend this current model.
