Sizing Notes

For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

La Sportiva Bushido III Trail Running shoes ROCK!

I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.” I LOVE LOVE LOVE these trail running shoes! I have used them to hike in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in southern Colorado. They are very light weight and comfortable and have very good grip for hiking on rocky uneven trails. I have fairly wide feet and usually wear a 7.5 or 8. I got these is an 8 and they fit great! I have tried on other trail shoes and this La Sportiva model is by far the best one I have ever worn. I usually feel the need to wear ankle support hiking boots when I do serious hiking, but I was VERY pleased with this trail shoe. I also love to wear them for just “kicking around.” I normally tend to pronate when I walk or run , but haven’t noticed that I have issues with pronation with these trail shoes. I LOVE the color of these shoes, but am already seeing that they probably will look dirty pretty quickly due to the light green color. It is frustrating when shoe laces come untied when wearing trail shoes and I am happy to report that I have NOT had problems with that issue! 😊 These shoes fit perfectly right out of the box and I NEVER had to break them in. I AM SO HAPPY with the PERFORMANCE of these trail running shoes. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them!

Great… almost excellent trail shoes

I found these shoes to be great but not quite excellent. I wore them for a few short runs mostly on trail and gravel, but I also ran a couple miles on pavement as well. I found the structure to be good, the laces do seem to feel a bit short if I wanted to change up my lacing for stability and avoid slipping. They are sturdy with good grip. I felt comfortable running in them, and I suffer from plantar fasciitis which didn’t flare up at all so that’s a success. The foot bed seemed to be a good platform, but they didn’t seem to have any cushion at all so I don’t recommend them for road running more than just getting to the trailhead. I also got the wide size which I’m grateful for since I’m between a regular and wide in most shoes, but this pair definitely wouldn’t have fit my toe box without being the wide version. I also ran through some wet grass and my feet stayed fairly dry. I received the light gray color with pink accents and they look pleasing and not too obnoxious. Overall great shoe but with a slight improvement to a bit more cushioning and perhaps lengthen the tongue by a half inch they could be great.

Lightweight stability

Putting on the La Sportiva Bushido III Trail-Running shoes for the first time was harder than I anticipated, mainly because the tongue seemed just a tad too short and kept getting swept under the laces. The laces are a bit short so I couldn't loosen them up to make it easier to put the shoes on. The shoe itself is impressive for the grip it provides on terrain given how lightweight it is. The toe box is roomy and the heel is comfortable straight out of the box but probably not a great choice for those looking for cushioned comfort. Held up equally well on short hikes and on pavement but felt a bit too rigid on a short run.

Excellent light weight trail shoe!

This is a high quality trail shoe. Very light weight. It runs narrow and small so size up 1/2 size. Traction is phenomenal- I hiked in Moab on slickrock and they were grippy and I never slipped on the red rocks. I highly recommend these trail shoes.

Good trail shoe

I've been wearing these sneakers on a local mix terrain trail. I love the width of these, it's perfect. The sole is very solid and doesn't hurt my feet when I'm walking over the rocks and boulders but still light as a feather. Quick drying too! These will be great for camping. My only issue is the toe box where the top mesh material meets the rubber. My big toe seems to keep catching right where the materials meet.

In Love With These Shoes!

I’m an experienced hiker (Alaska, Cali & New Mexico) & wanted to try these as an alternative to my faithful Danner’s. The “breaking in” period consisted of me taking them out of the box and taking them on a 5 hour mountainous hike in NM. Steep switchbacks, rocks (as pictured) of all sizes, tree roots, mud, pine needles & dirt…these shoes handled everything fantastically. Zero blisters, no achy feet & my heels stayed locked in place. There was only a short section that I ran and I they were great. Granted, they’re not super cushy, but I don’t care. My feet felt cradled, supported and I felt safe on exposed sections where the trail narrowed and the drop offs were intense. I’m normally an 8 in street shoes (have worn Lone Peaks in that size) and these shoes fit me perfectly in 8.5 (40 European size). This size also works great with my Darn Tough & Wright socka. I am super impressed and will stick with this brand! One thing to note is my feet are narrow, so keep that in mind.

Lightweight, sturdy trail runners!

I've previously owned the Bushido II's which I used exclusively as my backpacking shoes in the Sierras. The III's are a similar shoe, but with some upgrades. - Still very lightweight which is critical when going 15+ miles in a day and carrying a pack. I don't ever use boots. - The mesh panels made it a lot easier to dry off after crossing streams. Happy to see that there's even better breathability in the III. - The Bushido III's sole are more aggressive than the II's which gives me even more confidence when I'm going fast downhill. I love the feeling of not having to worry about every step I take, even in slippery conditions! - Sizing is the same for me. - Color choices are... ok. I'm generally not a big fan of bright splashy/neon colors. I loved the old blue/grey combo. Please have some prettier colors :)

Good traction, runs quite small

I've used these on a few hikes so far - one more leisurely (5 miles, 500 ft elevation gain), one with late-season snow (5 miles, 1k ft elevation snow), and one with significant (class 3) scrambling in a boulder field (9 miles, 4k ft elevation gain). They have fantastic traction - I clambered around the boulder field with no issues. These run very small - I usually wear a 7 or 7.5, and got these in a 7.5. I think an 8 would have actually been better for me. They are comfortable on at home, and on shorter (~5 mile) hikes, but for longer hikes where my feet swell a bit, my toes hurt on extended steep downhills. The laces are also incredibly short - maybe it's because I have high arches so my foot takes up more space in the shoe, but I can barely double knot the laces. The shoes often feel a bit too tight (but not uncomfortable) along the tongue - and again, because the laces are so short, I can't really lace them more loosely. I use lightweight gaiters on most three-season hikes, and I've used some trailrunners that have built-in velcro for the gaiters to attach. These ones don't, and they don't really have a good flat place behind the heel for me to attach my own velcro either. That's a bit of a bummer, but I can still hook the gaiters into the laces and get ~50-75% efficacy from the gaiters without the velcro. So not a dealbreaker for me.

I recently took these up to the top of Oak Mountain Alabama and I love these trail runners! They are super light weight with a nice wide toe box and extra grippy sole! They are great for wet rocks and steep climbs. Highly recommend!

Best mountain hiking/running shoes

Purchased the La Sportiva Bushido III W’s Moon/Springtime while on vacation because I forgot to pack any hiking or running shoes. I had a fall 10 yrs ago which resulted in 3 leg fractures and torn ACL’s & cartilage of both knees. One year and 6 surgeries later & cadaver parts to boot I’m mobile but was very unstable. I have not found a comfortable pair shoe since then that allow me to hike and run without excruciating pain until these shoes. These are the best running/hiking shoes I’ve bought in the last 10 years. They are comfortable, supportive and have given me the stability I had prior to getting injured. I love them so much I plan on buying another pair and I just had to submit a review.
