Good fit poor quality
I like the shirt but I’ve had it for 2 weeks and the stitching is coming out in multiple areas. It’s an $85 shirt that shouldn’t be happening so soon.
Best Lightweight Sun Shirt
I’ve owned this now for a year and I’m hooked on it! Live in Phoenix and use it year-around, even in our extreme heat. Hood protects my head from sun while long sleeves do their job. I’m 180 pounds , 5’10” and wear an XL. Take it on my annual Colorado river trip and someone always seems to mention how nice it looks and where did I buy it? No wrinkles, dries quickly, and worth the $$. Keeps me warm down to about 45-50 degrees, packs up easily, doesn’t snag, odor free, generous cut.
Top quality, comfy great fit!
This hoodie is worth the price. Much like every other Kuhl product I own, the material is top quality. The fit (I bought a Large) is excellent, even somewhat flattering. I got the light blue. I've already received several compliments on the subtle color. Some rash-guard type shirts feel to slick or uncomfortable to me. This one breathes and almost feels like a second skin. I plan to buy this in several other colors. Kuhl comes through again!
Awesome Sun Hoody
I am a fan of Kuhl gear. I bought this hoody because I don't like sunscreen, but I needed some sun protection for a multi-day backpacking trip. I tend to run a bit warm, so the ventilation on this was perfect for me. When it got a bit cooler, I paired it with a Merino wool t-shirt and was perfectly comfortable. I have only had it on one trip so far, but the UV protection was great while being airy and lightweight in the warmer temps. The hood fits securely but doesn't have a drawstring. Overall, a great option if you're looking for a lightweight, breathable hoody with UV protection.
My favorite light hoodie.
I have worn this on my last few section hikes and I think I’ve found my go to hiking shirt. It wicks sweat and dries super fast. Plus it’s good for chilli nights and mornings. The thumb holes are great while hiking during mornings or direct sun. The hood is great for using a dry bag as a pillow.. it’s a nice barrier from the dyneema. Plus, I don’t have to fuss with trying to use my neck gator or hanky as a pillowcase.
85 Dollar, LOW UPF shirt that wears out quickly
The REI product page lists that the shirt is 30 UPF but the actual tags on the garment specify only 20 upf in high sweat areas. 20 upf is protective, but not considered good quality protection by dermatologists. I would expect 30-50 UPF for $85. Also for the high price, I would expect durability. Don't expect to wear this shirt for a heavy duty work/play. It's a comfortable $85 shirt and that's about it.
Solid hike through performance
Good feel. Like the texturing. Construction feels solid. Performed well on a hot 3 day hike through in Colorado. Bringing on next mountain. Smell was very limited despite how much I sweat. There are better wicking shirts/material for a humid environment now that I am back in Florida
Good value
Great quality. I ordered the Free Fly hoodie first and did not care for the quality compared to this shirt. This Kuhl sun hoodie does run small in my opinion so I ordered up a size.
Great fit, blocks the sun but holds the stink
I like the fit and the style, comfortable and does provide all around protection. Got it 20% off, so the price was right. However, the "odor resistance" is nil, I just have to look at the shirt and it starts to stink. Maybe I am more musky than most, but this hoodie grabs onto stink and won't let go after just a few minutes.
My 3rd Kuhl Sun hoodie
This is my 3rd sun hoodie and all three of them have served me well on all my fastpacking and thru hiking trips. I also wear them as my casual wear because it’s comfy. I’m 6’ 180lbs and an XL fits small so it’s a perfect fit for my long torso and wide shoulders.
