Good shoe, but developed the squeak
I really liked this shoe for a couple of months and used it sparingly. Then while visiting Paris, France it developed a squeak. Apparently this is a problem others have experienced. It wouldn't be that bad if out hiking or playing tennis, but while touring quiet museums and cathedrals of Paris, the squeak became quite noticeable and irritating. I thought it must be the insole, but after removing it the sound still persisted. Thankfully, REI's return policy is among the best in the business. I've owned several Hokas and never developed a squeak, so I may try another pair of the Traveler and hope for the best.
Not bad so far
I've been using these as my new work shoes. I'm a custodian and walk around 50 miles a week. So after 6 weeks of use I figured it's time for a review. First off not the most comfortable shoes out the box. But after a week they weren't as bad. Soles seem to be holding up okay for 300 miles. The front tread is starting to come loose and if I don't glue them soon that will be the failure of them. I didn't think I was going to like the bungee shoe laces. But after a few weeks they have grown on me. I'm going to give them another 6 weeks and see if they are still in good shape before taking them back to REI.
Nice shoe rubbish sole.
I have had many vibram soled boots and shoes over the years. I have replaced soles after years of use. The sole on this trail runner might say vibram sole (which was my primary reason for purchasing them) but apparently there is more than one type of rubber used. This shoes sole wore out very quickly I got about 25% of the mileage I normally get. I suspect this might be a cheap 3D printed sole using cheap plastic or rubber. I felt the vibram sole logo was a con to exploit the hard earned reputation that usually comes with a quality vibram sole. Lesson learned and my faith in that brand has diminished knowing it’s now just a logo to be used to sell poor quality soles.
Width
Shoes width feels tight. I wish it comes on a wide width. I may have to return the shoes . Please let me know if this type of shoes is available in wide width.
Great Shoe!
I purposely bought this shoe for its slick designed but also knowing the great comfort that Hoka is known for. I wear these all day as an educator where I get 12,000 steps and day and I will tell you that these are incredibly comfortable throughout the entire day and I am on my feet all day. The vibram quality at the bottom of the shoe will make these last even longer. I have never gotten so many compliments on a shoe (not that it matters) but others have also appreciated the design of the shoe. I would highly recommend to others.
returned
I ordered it online, the color wasn't consistent with the photo and the top material was a plastic mix for waterproofing that I didn't think would breathe very well. I was looking for a shoe for a trip that looked good and I could walk a fair amount each day in comfort. I returned them. My experience with Hoka overall is very good and I own several pairs.
Good looking shoes, nice lacing system, bad fit.
Shoe looks good, but about it. Lacing system is nice, but really cheap. The worst part is the fit. I sized up. you could see the imprint of my toes just standing still. Really disappointed.
Runs small and narrow, but nice looks
Shoes run narrow, even in the extra wide size. Ordered one size larger than normal and still too small. Buying a par of Hokas online is much like playing the lotto. Each model and each iteration of those models often vary by size and width. There is no consistency in what they produce and sell. One shoe may fit well in D width, another may be too narrow and no toe room in the 2E width. Am going to look for other brands. Have been wearing Hoka shoes for seven+ years.
Close but no cigar
First time I'm returning a pair of Hokas. The fit is just terribly uncomfortable. I'm a 10.5, sized up like was recommended. Even went in store to try on both 10.5 and 11, 11 was a better fit. After wearing for an hour my feet were killing me. Gave them a chance at work the next day, after 6 hours I wanted to just go barefoot. These are on paper the perfect shoe for me, mostly because Hoka is using a quick-lace system like Salomon which just makes starting your day easier... They almost hit it out of the park with this one but instead they dropped the ball....
Stride Forward!
Shoes are comfy out of the box - nordic walked 10K in about ninety minutes. No hot spots. Shoe’s speed-Ghillie lacing beats that of other shoes. No need to add insoles. Vibram soles look functional and durable. Sizing is comparable to sizing of my other shoes; e.g., Brooks and Keen.
