Rainier Rain Coat?
EE2
There are great design details in this rain jacket - hood design, length of jacket, pockets, adjustable cuffs, adjustable waist, breathable fabric and I love the color. However, on my first test run - 1 1/2 hours in moderate to light rain I arrived home and the fabric on the hood was soaked through as were the cuffs and the area to each side of the front pockets. Then the zipper got really stuck and I had to step out of the jacket (I eventually worked it loose). Did I buy the wrong product for walking in the rain? Was I supposed to apply waterproofing before wearing? Would love some feedback. Thank you. (I did take some pictures if needed)

Not Waterproof

I wanted to love this jacket so much. It’s super cute on and a great length. This is NOT waterproof - it is water resistant at best. Definitely not what I was expecting for the price. I wore it in the rain for less than 5 minutes and my back was wet and you could see the water seeping into the fabric throughout. Super stylish jacket but if you’re looking for something to keep you dry on the trails or camping, this isn’t it. I definitely will be returning for something else.

Stylish & functional long rain jacket!

This is an excellent rain jacket, beautifully crafted with a number of thoughtful features, including a vented hood, adjustable cuffs, storm flaps over the zipper, and a slight flare out towards the bottom with buttons for extra adjustability. It's super lightweight, and the "Heritage Spruce" color is a stunning shade of green! The material seems fully waterproof, as it's done well in a light mist and full downpours, keeping me dry from head to just above the knee. For me, it runs on the slightly larger side, which I appreciated because I could wear a warmer down jacket underneath and not feel like my motion was restricted at all, despite the layers. All in all, it's a stylish and functional rain jacket, and I especially love the length to keep my pants slightly drier. Highly recommend!

Great lightweight Rain Jacket

The REI Co-op Rainier Long Line Rain Jacket is super lightweight, while providing excellent rain and wind protection. It can be adjusted for a perfect fit. The sleeves have hook and loop at the cuffs which can be tightened or loosened as needed, and there's an inner waist adjustment, too, that makes for a more personalized fit. The hood can be cinched in tightly around the face when needed with the attached elastics fittings. The length of the jacket is great, too. I really love that this rain jacket can easily be stored in its own pocket for travel or storage.

A great raincoat for the city and trail

Overall a great raincoat that I appreciate in this rainy weather we've been having. The longer length makes it great for walking around in the rain without worrying about your lower torso getting wet. There are lower side snaps to allow give that some longer jackets don't have which are a great feature that allows easier walking. The jacket has shape but ample room for layering underneath. There are waist adjustment drawstrings for better fit too. The hood is large and covers well. Hook and loop straps are at the sleeve cuffs, and the interior pockets are soft and large. I like that there's a two way zipper and button up snaps. I have not used it outside in the rain for an extended period, so I can't say if it's really waterproof, but it has been resistant enough for the shorter times I've been in the rain.

My favorite jacket for spring weather

I love this jacket. I am 5'9" so the long torso hits just right to keep my rear out of the rain. The hood has a great stiff front that helps keep it on my head when it's windy. Took this on a ferry to B.C., walked the trails at my local park, and even put it to the test on a windy, rainy, grey day out on the coast. The top of the zipper has a soft fabric which prevents uncomfortable scratching on the chin and neck. It is perfect for a sprinkle or to navigate some wet branches trailside, but after 5 minutes in some rain with a heavy ocean spray it was struggling to repel water. Although I was not wet from the moisture coming through, the jacket was absorbing more water than I expected. I love it as a windbreaker that can stand up to a grey day with a chance of rain. I wear it almost daily with the spring weather that can't make up its mind, and it is excellent for just that.

Nice long raincoat!

Overall I really like this raincoat! Definitely waterproof and the hood is nice and big. I also loved how long it was. I would say this runs a bit big, but I also didn't mind because I can layer underneath.

Love this raincoat!

This is a great lightweight rain jacket! Its longer length provides more coverage - even allows me to sit on a wet bench. It provides plenty of room to cover a cross-body purse, but also has waist draw strings that can give it a more fitted silhouette. The sleeves are just right for longer arms but has velcro at the wrists for a tighter fit. Canyon Dusk color goes well with most of my clothes and was happy to have that option. The zippered pockets are large enough even for a bottle of water. Only improvement would be to have an inside pocket. I wore this when the weather had turned from rain to a wintry mix but it worked well over a couple of layers of clothes. Highly recommend this rain jacket.

Water seeps through even WITH add'l waterproofing

I tested its water resistance in my shower. It failed. So I added my own waterproofing (Atsko spray). Water still seeps through the fabric itself--not just the seams, but also the actual literal fabric. This works absolutely terribly as a raincoat. I need a long windbreaker, so I'll keep it. If it hadn't been on sale, I'd have returned it.

Confused

(I will update with a waterproof test as I have not done that yet) The fit seems good & I like the length. However, I did extensive research in buying a new rain jacket and having it be a cute color is important to me (I’m not a fan of drab outerwear) and I paid more for this than my second choice on color alone. I bought the jacket in “Heritage Spruce” which in photos is a bright spring green. In person it’s a dark olive/army green. I’m disappointed with the misleading product photos.

Great Everyday Raincoat

I have to say this jacket is exactly as described. This is not the jacket I would pack for a backpacking trip or long day hike for many reasons, and the price is indicative of that. However it’s a perfect daily raincoat. Love how lightweight and breathable it is, with great features including large hood, spilt side seams and awesome pockets. This coat is extremely versatile and wear it often in the PNW. I would say it’s oversized which allows for layer on cooler rainy days.
