A few changes would make this jacket great!
I took this on a backpacking trip to Santa Cruz Island of the Channel Islands. The jacket performed well. I like that it is packable. The fit of the jacket is a bit off. I'm 46 years old with a 40" chest and an athletic build. The medium size fits my chest but does not fit the hip area. The jacket barely zips over my hips. I have to raise the bottom of the jacket up and fold the top over the hip areas so it's not too tight. I think an adjustable, or an elastic waist would help the design. I think a zipper in the inside top left or right of the jacket would help, this would allow a place to store your phone/wallet or anything else.
SuperStrand is unstoppable right through the seams
I have owned the jacket barely a year and a month and it's shedding/leaking "superstrand" like it's been used much. It's seen a few months of two North Carolina Winters, mpst;y walking the dog. It looks like cobwebs are seeping out of the exterior of the jacket through the stitching. Really disappointing for what I paid for this fancy thermal tech. It's been surprisingly warm, but its design is a fail since the SuperStrands so easily find their way through the jacket. Ugly.
Good not great
I had high hopes for this jacket, and for the most part it seems like a good jacket, but it falls short in a couple of ways. Pros: the stitching pattern seems to keep the insulation well distributed which should not be overlooked. Big fan of this! Cons: the fit is awkward for me. I finally landed on a size L and its definitely boxier than I want it to be through the torso but fits well in the shoulders. The size down (M) fit well in the torso but was too tight in the shoulders. For reference I'm 6'2" 190. Also, the main zipper feels really light and I don't expect it to last very long. FInally, the lack of a chest pocket in a jacket like this feels like an egregious oversight to me.

Lightweight and Durable
Have used this jacket while in Seattle for dive training. This jacket kept me warm during training after diving in the Puget Sound and also just exploring Seattle. It is more lightweight than the Helium but it retains heat very well. The fit is true to size the diamond stitching is a great design than the traditional puffy squares of a down jacket. So far it has held up to mild abuse and the jacket looks well made and durable. The collar is not annoying. Has inner pockets on each side and the side pockets are zippered and easily accessible. It is probably going to be one of my favorite jackets.

The best at what it is
If you're looking for a layer that's extremely warm for its weight, retains heat better than down when wet, and can function as both a stand alone layer and mid layer on colder days, you can't beat this jacket. I'd compare it to the Patagonia micro puff, but it's definitely the winner in terms of both warmth and weight. If you'll be bushwhacking or crawling around while wearing it, you'll definitely want an outer layer or you'll be looking at a lot of holes. But, that's the trade off for lightweight and compact. I'm 5'7" 170 with an athlete's build and the medium fits well. It might be a bit boxy for some tastes, but it's designed to keep you warm not lure suitors. Definitely would recommend.

Disappointing
I've had a variety of OR stuff since the military. Usually at the quality or higher than your mainline northface. This jacket was a serious disappointment. It wouldn't thrive as a packable mid layer. By itself, I have a similar under armour jacket which has much better quality and is warmer. Recently the bottom tooth of the zyper failed and won't capture causing the zipper to be undone at the bottom. The tooth didn't fall out, it basically crushed through use. Stay away from this jacket. I'll always give OR another try due to this being the only problem I've had with any product of theirs.

2nd Layer
I am beefing up cold weather layers and was missing a 2nd/3rd layer under external shell for winter workouts...Not yet cold enough for real test with other layer options, but so far is proving good in moderate 45-50 degrees as a second layer with minimal activity level. I bought a S size for a tight fit and because I have wider hips, need to fold the bottom up to close the zipper. The full-length zipper is not two-way zip nor is there an elastic/tie bottom which may (with a wider cut) have eliminated this need to tuck.
warm and lightweight
For weight to warmth ratio this jacket is impressive. Nordic skiing at 10-15 degrees, this is a perfect base layer under a Gore-tex shell. It offers good breathability for heavy exercise. I am 6ft, 200 lb with an athletic build and the fit is pretty snug. It is too snug for an additional base layer underneath. Large/tall is my typical size. The sleeve length of the large is perfect but still probably should have ordered a size up. This jacket is a perfect lightweight layer for summer/fall backpacking. It is also light enough to wear under a down jacket for extra warmth in very cold conditions (0 to minus 20). Only 4 stars because I worry that the zipper is too light and may not hold up under extended use.

Classic jacket that fits and looks great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used to have an OR Neoplume jacket about 20 years ago that I absolutely loved. This jacket is essentially an evolution of that jacket. It is slightly warmer and slightly lighter. The best part is that it's synthetic (I live in the rainy PNW). OR did away with the velcro cuffs that was prone to fraying. The jacket also has a nice collar that actually keeps you warm when fully zipped. I can't speak highly enough about this all-purpose jacket. I'm 6'0" and 190lbs and the size large fits great. I fluctuate up to 205lbs and there is enough room for me at peak weight.
Field Jacket
I bought this jacket for use in the field. I wanted something that would keep me warmer than a smokers jacket. It didn't disappoint but could be improved. The addition of a drawstring around the waist for fit adjustment/warmth retention would be great. Pocket on the chest would also be appreciated. The jacket looks great and functioned well in 40 degree temps while out in the field. It is thin enough to be worn under an army top and can also accommodate layering under the jacket for additional warmth. Overall I am very satisfied and would recommend this jacket.
