Exceeded expectations, hope they hold up!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So much fun!!! I get excited about finding places to go kayaking on the weekends now, and we’re gonna bring our adventure cat out on it next weekend 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I bought 2 - the weight limit is 250lb but holds my 260lb boyfriend without taking on water. He has back issues so I got him a thicker gel pad than the Oru pad. He will need the foot rest eventually to keep his feet from falling asleep too. Everywhere we go people always ask about them - we were able to assemble them, kayak, and disassemble and load them into the car in less time than it took the lady parked next to us to dry off, deflate, and pack her SUP board. You definitely feel like part of the cool kid club with the kayak :)
Oru Lake kayak
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Oru Kayak Lake is our family's first kayak, and as beginners to kayaking, we have found it incredibly user-friendly. We have taken it out about four times now, and with each outing, my husband, my 6-year-old son, and I have enjoyed it even more. My son is able to fit in the kayak with me with ease. We have used it for fishing and have successfully caught rainbow trouts. Spending hours in it, we explore the lakes of Northern Sierra, with my son even taking naps while we paddle. Its compact design makes it convenient to transport. Whenever we set it up or fold it back, we attract a lot of attention from curious onlookers who inquire about it. Overall, it's an amazing kayak that has enhanced our outdoor experiences and highly recommend.
I love my new ORU Lake kayak!
Perfect solution for my situation.
I put it together and
I put it together and took it down in my front room. Waiting for the ice to go off the lake before trying it out. The assembly was easy and taking it down went well. Who knew reading the directions could actually help
A Kayak Without a Footrest is Useless
A Kayak without a place to rest your feet is useless and like buying a kayak which has no seat. It is extremely hard to believe that any company would sell a kayak without a foot rest. No footrest pretty much means your adjustable back support is useless too! Putting it together indoors the first time took a little work. There were straps to tighten and adjust which the video and instructions made no mention of. Perhaps because it is new, when you "popped" the oragami like parts into their new position they never held their new shape and poppoed back to their original form. Maybe this would change over time. The whole concept is very intersting and a novelty, but in the end I expected a little bit more. I would not buy this again.
Soggy bottom girl
From sunrise to sunset, the idea, concept, etc. are all good, great even. But I've received two of these crafts and they both leak. Not enough to sink, but enough to have a soggy bottom, and with the fall temps, I'm now limited on when I can go out and not be sitting in cold water.
Love my Oru kayak!
The Oru Lake kayak has been fantastic! We moved into a place on the river in Milwaukee! The Oru Lake kayak is so lightweight that I easily carry it the 5-minute walk to the access point. Quick and easy to unfold and to fold again! Stable and sturdy! I highly recommend!
One of the seems is crooked so the boat loses its shape once it hits the water.
Love the idea of this boat, the weight, the size, and relative ease of getting it set up (video instructions could be improved, written instructions were pretty much useless). Unfortunately, one of our seams isn't quite straight. Didn't think it would be a problem until the boat went into the water. The outside water pressure caused the seam on the left front to pop back in, and the left rear to bow out. The boat is pretty much unusable and water lapped inside (on a relatively calm day). This boat was bought for my daughter, who is a paddling instructor, so not exactly a novice. She was really impressed when she saw others with this boat and so we purchased it as a gift for her 25th birthday. We set it up once in the house (took under 15 minutes, mostly because trying to figure out the directions), packed it back up, and she took it down to a small lake for the maiden voyage with the above mentioned results. Took photos of the problem seam, emailed them to Oru (twice), left a phone message, used their online "chat," and no-one will respond (It's been a few days now). Side note: the link on the website to register your boat for the warranty is broken. Chat was able to send me a link that worked, so you may have to do that to register yours. Overall, we are obviously pretty disappointed in this company at the moment. I'll update my review when this is resolved (will hopefully have better news).
Compact!
It is a great recreational calm water kayak for people who don't have a lot of space to work with at home and in the car. Folds up to luggage size and LIGHT! Barely 20 pounds. With me and gear, total weight is about 200 pounds, max weight the kayak can hold is 250 pounds. Haven't tested the limit. I've had it for almost a year, used it about 10 times as an extra kayak for friends cause I have an Inlet Oru Kayak. If you're looking for a space saving kayak for calm waters, it's great!
Lake is more of a go-to than I thought
I purchased a Lake and Bay ST at the same time to replace my hard shells. I thought I would be using the Bay ST exclusively and I do love it. But I am surprised at how often I throw the Lake in the back of the car for those quick outings that still last hours. Lake is stable- the only water inside where I paddle is from my feet. It’s a surprising boat I can set up in 1.5 minutes and be in the water- If I can get past the other paddlers who want to see my backpack turn into a boat. Thanks for this great design.
