Love this kayak
I had a recurrence of breast cancer last year and had to have a bunch of radiation done on my chest and shoulder. This has made it very difficult for me to get a kayak up on top of a car by myself. I was feeling pretty sad and a little sorry for myself when I was at REI looking at paddling stuff. Then I came upon the foldable Oru kayak. I cannot tell you how delighted I was. I saved my pennies and when there was a good sale, I went ahead and bought a piece of happiness. I find it very manageable to put together and take apart. I have a Prius Prime which does not have a huge opening in the back. However, I can easily fit the kayak in the back. I chose the inlet over the lake because it is a little longer which definitely improves maneuverability. I also wanted the wider opening as I paddle with my pup. I ordered the floaters, whistle, upgraded seat and sponge from Oru as well. I like to be able to kayak by myself and want things to be as safe as possible. My pup and I have been out on the water multiple times since my purchase and I am so very delighted and grateful.
Love it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been paddling in smooth water for a long time. I had a hardsided kayak for many years yet it got to difficult to get it on top of the car so I sold it. Recently a friend invited me to join her in her Oru tandem. It was great and I decided to purchase an Inlet for myself. The ease of transport and the light weight make it a breeze to get in the water. I’ve practiced several times setting up and folding down. At first it was very hard but it is better now as the sides are less stiff and I watched the video on the website for hints. It takes me under 10 minutes to set it up and get in the water. The first time I went out on slightly choppy water on a small inland lake, no power boats. It handled as well as my hardsided kayak did. It moves smoothly without drag and turns with ease. I never felt unsteady though I have not had it out on a big lake or river yet. My one complaint: I would like a good place to put my water bottle. I clipped it to one of the places for the carrying strap but had to unclip each time to drink. It was awkward. My 66th birthday is next month. I thought my kayaking days were limited to rentals and the kindness of friends. This kayak has returned me to the relaxing simple joy of floating and paddling again.
Oru kayak is a game changer
I am really enjoying my Oru Kayak. I really think it is up to the kayaker to decide what works best for them. For me, I needed something that wouldn’t take up too much room in the vehicle, and one I could comfortably carry a few miles on hikes to lakes. This one fit the bill. The first time I set it up-in my backyard- took about ten minutes. I needed to watch the YouTube video to be brave enough to do the big folds. The second time I set it up in under three minutes. It is super easy once you know what to do. It really isn’t a fragile kayak, but I still avoid super shallow areas in the lakes where it could drag on the bottom and make sure to fold at the appropriate areas.
I expected more
I've had this kayak for over a month and I've used it about 10 times. I have tried it on different lakes. 1) I didn't like it. If there is a lot of wind, the kayak moves a lot. 2) As I said, I have not used it more than 10 times and I have been super careful so that it does not get damaged, but no matter how much I have tried to take care of it, it already has some damage. I attach photos and videos. 3) In the video you can see how in some parts of the base of the kayak it seems that water has entered it and honestly I am afraid that at any moment I will be in the middle of some lake and I will get drowned because of this. 4) One of the plastic buckles on the front of the kayak was upside down and it was very uncomfortable to try to close the kayak. attach video. For the money I invested, I thought I wouldn't have so many problems.
Everything I hope for!
As a mom to 3 small children, I knew I needed a kayak that would allow me to get out on the water quickly and easily, so I can take advantage of every spare minute I can grab. The Inlet has done that and so much more. It’s incredibly quick and easy to set up and pack away, and I get to maximize my lake time. It’s so light to carry and small to store, but it can also cut through the water perfectly (to this first-time kayaker, at least)! I’ve also been able to take all three of my girls with me, when I just NEED to get out on the lake—it’s definitely a heavier paddle (we juuuust about reach the weight limit together), but then I get to chase loons with my girls!
Love it but disappointed
I really love this kayak. I’ve only had it for a month and have taken it out on the quiet river and lake for a total of about seven times. It feels sturdy and easy to maneuver. Sadly, though it already has a hole in the bottom that allows water to get into the corrugated channels. It’s a great idea, but I think that the material it’s made out of isn’t suited for Kayak that would Have contact with Sandy surface or a pebbly surface. I took such care of my kayak, But it’s still Got a hole in it after just a few uses. I love how lightweight it is. I love how small it is. I love everything about it, but it is just not very durable.
Just love it!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great invention. It is so easy to store, transport, assemble, navigate, and dissemble. I immediately got the second one so that I can enjoy it with my friends. I weigh 130 pounds and I use it with a seven year girl 50 pounds and a Chihuahua 10 pounds. It was so stable and we love the experience. I definitely recommend recommended to all who were thinking about the new adventure with kayaks. Thank you and congrats to the team.
So Easy!
We bought two Inlet Oru kayaks. We can both put them together fairly quickly and easily. They feel stable and handle well in the water!
Inlet is light and so fun to paddle
I thoroughly enjoyed my first outing with my new Inlet. It’s lighter, easier, and faster to set up than my Beach. The Inlet is a little wider, turns easily, & has less drag. I really am impressed with how it handles on the water. I’m getting the hang of popping the folds into position in the setup and breakdown. The videos make it look so easy to refold the Inlet, especially the bringing the sides together in the final fold. But I finally figured it out. I wish there were 2 handles except just one. The jell seat is a must.
