Nice helmet but the universal fit does not fit all
This helmet is good quality with a minimal amount of padding to keep it light. There's just one problem, it says it is universal fit but that's just not true. It probably fits most people but I have a big head and it isn't even close to fitting me. With the rear dial adjuster extended all the way, I have about a half inch gap between the top of my head and the helmet. I have another Giro helmet size large (59-63 cm) which fits just fine. This helmet is 54-61 cm so I guess those extra 2 cm make a big difference.
Comfortable helmet
This is a very comfortable lightweight helmet. The fit is easy to adjust with the dial on the rear headband, providing a nice secure fit. The padding on head contact points is comfortable while not being too bulky. The visor is removable, although doing so will expose a noticeable snap/slot on each side of the helmet, reducing its overall attractiveness, but I don't really see a way that could have been avoided if you want method to remove and reattach the visor. I have two minor quibbles with the design: 1) the bright yellow circular "Mips" logo sticker does not appear to be easily removable. That design choice seems strange - the bright yellow sticker takes away from the nice color scheme of the helmet. I appreciate the added safety provided by Mips, but I don't like being forced to advertise the logo. 2) The straps tha form a V to go around the ears are not adjustable - they are stitched together and appear to be welded at the base of the helmet. I would have preferred the ability to adjust the fit. Overall though, I do like the helmet and plan to use it regularly.
Light, comfortable, durable, stylish
This helmet is light and comfortable with easy one-hand adjustment. As an athlete and outdoorsman who has suffered multiple concussions, the most important feature to me is the integrated brain protection system. I showed this helmet and my previous helmet to my neurologist and she said this helmet offered a substantial increase in protection. The helmet offers good air flow and the quick-drying pad system quickly wicks away moisture. I wear this helmet not only for biking but also for swift water kayaking in shallow rocky rivers and creeks. Hands down the best helmet I’ve owned.
Solid Value for a safe, well-rounded helmet
I’m usually on the road for my rides, so this was an adventure into a helmet realm I have not been in for quite a while. I was looking for a good helmet that I can use for adventures around the neighborhood and also take up into the hills. The Fixture Mips II proved itself as a nice budget-friendly mountain bike helmet. It provides an elevated level of protection, thanks to the integrated Mips technology, which offers peace of mind on the trails and on the road. The helmet's design is also a plus. The adjustable fit system makes achieving a comfortable and secure fit easy. I was very surprised at how well it held on my big head. The fit was incredibly secure while still providing the crucial ventilation and comfort needed for those longer rides. However, while the Fixture Mips II excels in many areas, there are a few points worth noting. The biggest complaint I have was that when the fit system was tightened appropriately, it would flip when putting in the helmet which was a point of frustration. The overall aesthetic, while functional, feels a bit basic compared to some other helmets I’m familiar with. The finish, while durable, lacks the premium feel of more expensive helmets. Some riders might find the padding a touch thin, especially during extended rides and the visor, while adequate, is relatively short. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Giro Fixture Mips II offers exceptional value for its price. It's a helmet that prioritizes safety and comfort, making it a great choice for beginner to intermediate riders.
Safety 1st
During covid my husband and i began biking in our free time. Last summer my husband entered a drawing at alocal bike shop hoping to win a new bike. He won but not the bike he got the runner up bike helmet giro fixture ii in gray. He was disappointed since he did not win the bike and had no interest in wearing the helmet. He put it on the shelf and left it there. This past fall i got my husband a speedometer and he told me we were often going 20 mph or faster. After one ride where he said we hit almost 30 mph (yikes) I mentioned that maybe i should should really be wearing a helmet. On our next ride my husband reminded me that he had a helmet. After i put it on i realzed I really liked the helmet since it gave me confidence and a sense of safety. It was also very comfortable light and well vented. My husband asked me what I thought the other day and i told him. He said maybe he should wear one too. So i decided to buy a fixture in red so he would be able to wear his. He did finally start wearing his helmet and in the meantime I decided to leave this review to let others know they are not all bad.
Such an improvement in helmets
My wife has an old flash tec helmet in red that she will wear almost every ride. It fit is terrible always tipped back with straps so loose you can put it on and take it off without undoing the buckle. Her parents always make mention how terrible the fit is. I have a skid lid (4 prong from the 80’s) that offers no protection that i will wear if my wife requests me wear a helmet). A few weeks ago i was going for a ride and she asked if i would wear her helmet so i would be safe. For some reason i said yes. As I attempted to put it on I realized the buckle was broken and she had sewn the straps together. I gave up and enjoyed my ride. When i got home i asked her why she did not jusy buy a new helmet. She laughed and shrugged and said she liked her Red helmet and could not find a similar one in red. I looked for awhile and and found the giro fixture II in red. I got it for her. When it came i helped her fit it and adjust it. We then took a ride she agreed it was much nicer than her old helmet
Good basic helmet!
I received this helmet for free with the REI trailblazers program. I am a long-time REI member (1976) and have purchased quite a bit of cycling gear over the years, including several helmets in the past 4 years. I am mostly a roadie, but I have a large stable of bikes, including Triathlon, Road racing, road endurance, mountain and boulevard cruisers. This helmet is in the style of a mountain bike helmet with the sun visor integrated into it. It’s very adjustable as to head diameter and both my daughter and I have used it. I wear a 7-1/2 hat size and I think she is probably only a 6. The chin strap is adjustable for length with a standard slider-type buckle and has a plastic quick release very similar to my other helmets. It didn’t really seem to have separate adjustments for the front-back straps, but seems to work ok without. It is very comfortable, similar to my Giro road helmet and I used it on a 100k road ride. I actually kind of like the built-in sun visor as I am prone to get sunburned, even with sunscreen. My daughter did say the strap choked her a bit at normal tightness, but she just lengthened the strap to solve the problem. I love that it’s MIPS2 for the extra safety. They sent a dark gray helmet, which wouldn’t be my choice for road riding, as I prefer high vis colors, but for greenways and trails, it’s fine. Now, I probably won’t wear this in a race, but it might be my go to helmet for casual rides out of my collection of 4 helmets due to the sun visor and comfort.
Great Helmet
Love this helmet. Doesn't just look great but fits perfect and love the visor.
No adjustable chin straps, Nice visor, a bit large
Tried on and found it ok, but the universal fit ran a bit large for me and I have a fairly large head. The chin straps are not adjustable and I didn't realize this. It's going back to REI. This said, it seems like a very nice helmet. Substantial visor.
Already helped!
I actually crashed about a week after purchasing this helmet, and it saved my head from damage. Great purchase and great timing!
