This is an extremely thin, light bag with backpack straps. It is purely a backup for when you need to carry some extra stuff and want your hands free. I had no problem stuffing it back into its little stuff sack, which serves as a small interior pocket when bag is deployed. Just use your thumbs to stuff it- tight fit but doable ( I am a 63 yo woman). I use it for travel and on scuba trips when I need to carry small items onto the boat- anything that must be dry goes into another seatosummit dry bag, then into the backpack. I can't see using it as a daypack with any weight in it, there is no structure or any padding. It is a fancy shopping bag with a zipper, shoulder straps and a bit of water resistance. Perfect for how I use it.

Great bag with a short (25 day) lifespan

I picked up this bag to have a compact day bag before I backpacked Europe for 25 days. This bag was great until it wasn’t as the right shoulder strap started to rip away from the body of the bag 5 days before my return to the US. Luckily they stitched the strap well as the remaining stitches held until they could no longer hold and broke free in a NJ airport. Maybe I got a defective unit, so I might try again with a different unit as it really was a great bag. The only thing that might of made this product better, would be using a 3 layer Goretex material so the bag could breathe.

Perfect backup personal item!

I carry this around in my small sling to have as a backup in case I need more space. It recently came in handy when I decided to purchase some large and somewhat heavy souvenirs at the airport. I easily transferred everything from my sling to this backpack, together with the new purchases. It was comfortable to carry the bag on my front (since I was wearing a travel backpack on my back), and Iceland Air didn't show any concerns about the size. It carried everything I needed, and even with 12 pounds of stuff in it, I didn't have any concerns about it ripping. I wouldn't use it as an everyday pack, but as a backup, it's ideal. Something I didn't realize when purchasing is that the gray color is somewhat see-through. While not ideal for privacy, the transparency is actually somewhat helpful for finding things in the bag mid-flight!

It broke IMMEDIATELY

I only put less than 10 pounds in my bag (nothing sharp or abrasive at all, just a water pack and some ziplocks with food) and it ripped all the way horizontally, completely unusable, I tried repairing it with a sewing kit and it started ripping more where I threaded the needle. I don’t know why it ripped, must be weak material. Very disappointed as I packed this bag for a two week trip and now I have no bag. The description said RECOMMENDED 15 POUNDS FOR COMFORTABLE CARRY.

Tore almost immediately

I had a similar Sea to Summit bag that was gifted to me and lasted for well over a decade before developing a hole. I bought this thinking it would last me the next decade. Wrong! A month later after using it maybe 5 times, it got a catastrophic risk. My knockoff Ridge wallet fell out and thankfully hit my calf on the way down or I wouldn't have even noticed until I got back home. The knockoff Ridge has edges but they are rounded and not sharp and should NOT be poking a hole in this bag. Quality has gone downhill.

Why don't you have one of these already?

I bought this bag for bike packing. It's a great way to temporarily add storage on your trip. Now, it's found a ton of use as a spare bag in almost every travel scenario. I keep it in my car for last minute day excursions. It's so compact, it fits anywhere, and you don't have to second guess whether or not you should grab it. Because it's so lightweight, it doesn't have a ton of features. Also since it has no rigidity, getting stuff in and out of the bag can be fiddly. But those are small prices to pay to have a backpack whenever you need one.

REI, please carry this product.

I love this product. I have three. They’re sturdy, compact, and very lightweight. I want to add that I think REI should also carry the Sea to Summit 30L waterproof daypack. It stuffs into a tiny pouch, but closes like a dry bag. In the Pacific Northwest, a small, waterproof stuffable daypack is a must-have

Handy and useful for travel

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this compact Ultra-Sil Day Pack especially when I travel. It is very helpful. I carry it in my purse until that gets too loaded or the crossbody strap gets annoying, then pull out this pack. It will carry my purse plus a light sweater or whatever else I happen to stuff in it. Putting the weight on two shoulders can be more comfortable. This pack is light duty so does not offer comfort when carrying heavy loads for long periods of time. Also be careful of stuffing in pointy or sharp objects. I recommend this pack for when you need additional carrying capacity, such as hiking and needing a place to carry the warmth layers you are peeling off.

Very handy

I bought this to use an extra bag for a European trip since I planned to only travel with a carryon. It’s small & light and seems to be perfect for the task. It would also work well as a day pack for backing when you want to leave your full pack behind and hike a side trip or use in town on resupply. I really like that the stuff sack is sewn into the seam in the inside of the pack preventing me from losing it. My only gripe is that that tiny stuff sack, while great for marketing (look how tiny it is!) is just a little too small for the backpack. Good luck getting that genie back in its bag. It can be done, but you’ll have some wicked thumb cramps. Seemed a little pricey for what it is, but not enough to be off-putting for me, I guess.
