Lightweight and stretchy, but after washing it once, it was itchy. And shrank a bit too much, so I wouldn’t buy it again. Fine to wear it now as a base layer (over a sport bra to cut down on the itch), but disappointed. Bummer. Loved the color too. One thing to note if you do buy it, is that it’s pretty transparent (especially now that it’s tighter). I have several other Smartwool pieces (from socks to outer layers) and this is my least favorite product.
Although a bit pricey, this tee held up to my expectations for durability and wearability. When I think of wool, I begin to itch automatically. Not so w/this tee. I have worn it in all weather conditions, and no itch! I do not put this in the dryer, just air dry. Dries pretty quickly (except in extreme humidity). Would buy another if they had more colors.
So surprising for Smartwool, have loved their products. As seen in photo, the lower hem seam doesn't lay flat and looks poorly constructed. Especially for the yellow tee, there's no way I can wear it unless it's tucked in. This picture was taken after I line-dried after initial pre-wash: they have never been worn. :(
The Twilight Blue is a deep green-blue, almost teal and its absolutely gorgeous. This is another example of a company trying to offer REI plus sizes and failing to understand body type. Basically, this is the classic men's crewneck T-shirt barely adapted for a women's body. To make a plus size, the T-shirt was just made wider. As a result, the neck is too tight and the material across the chest is too tight while other parts are too loose. I looked like I put on a men's XL or XXL T-shirt and that is a horrible look on me. This style is best for slender women with long, thin necks and slender shoulders and hips. It's too boxy for curvy gals. The material looks fabulous and the color is amazing. I'm very sad that I will be returning this lovely teal T-shirt and the black T-shirt because the fit is so poor.
I can say this is my first Smartwool tee shirt and will probably be my last. I washed it in cool water and line dried (as I do all of my expensive clothes). I wore it hiking once and the back of the shirt pilled. My pack was secure and did not excessively rub against me. I’m very particular about clothing that pills and for only wearing one time, I’m very disappointed in the lack of quality of this shirt. It’s going back.
Latest version of this shirt runs 1-2 sizes smaller. I've bought many of these in the past. A Medium always fits, a large fits longer and baggy. I ordered a medium like i usually do, and it was super tight.. exchanged it for the large, and it still fit smaller than the previous mediums that I had purchased in previous years. Size up at least 1-2 sizes.
I have loved all my all-season base layers so far, long sleeved and short sleeved. I own 6-8. This one is a few inches shorter than all the others. That’s kind of a deal breaker for me. Short shirts are a heck no when I’m doing a lot of moving around! I need it long enough that everything stays covered no matter how I have to bend or reach or twist while I’m outdoors.
I've worn this shirt once on a hike of about 3 hours and there is a complete outline of my pack where the fabric is "roughed up" - it has pilled from this small amount of use. My pack is a good quality Osprey and this has never happened before. I purchased it at REI in Bellingham and I am a Canadian resident so returning it is just not worth it. I'm extremely disappointed.
I already had two of these and love them. I was super excited to fine one in my favorite color, so I ordered a third. Unfortunately this one, despite being labeled as the same size as my previous two, is a full size smaller. So annoying.
I wore this shirt for a week straight on a camping/ canoe trip in Canada. It was comfortable, dried quickly, minimal stink. Highly recommend
