Really Nice Jacket
I bought this jacket to replace my Arcteryx Delta Fleece Jacket. I owned the Delta Fleece previously and had problems with the fleece fabric becoming pilled and covered with lint. I ordered the Arcteryx Kyanite Jacket and compared the fabric with the Delta - I found the Kyanite to be much smoother on the exterior with a much tighter weave on the face of the fabric which I think will prevent the pill issue in the future. I liked that the Kyanite had a longer cut and longer tail which makes for a good fit on the bike too. It's worth mentioning that I found both the Delta and the Kyanite jackets to be similar in weight and warmth.
Close to perfection. Lacks inner pockets.
The jacket is extremely comfortable and very lightweight. Size S weighs 273g, size M weighs 283g. The zippers are extremely smooth and made by YKK. Despite the fabric being elastic, there are no wavy zippers (wavy zippers can appear on some full-zip hoodies when the zipper is too long, or when the fabric shrinks). The outer surface is smooth and does not collect lint and does not appear to pill. The two outside pockets have zippers. The jacket is extremely stylish and just looks really great. The only disappointment I had was that there are no pockets on the inside. On most jackets / hoodies there are inner non-zipper pockets on the inside - these are very easy to add because there is already extra fabric used to make the outer pockets. But not on Kyanite, and I think this is a missed opportunity. If it had the inner pockets, I would literally be completely out of ideas on how to make this product any better. It is that close to perfection. I did test two colors - "black" and "black sapphire". The black is definitely more versatile and it just works with anything. The black Kyanite is the ultimate universal jacket that you can wear at pretty much any occasion with any wardrobe and it will always look great. The black sapphire is also a wonderful color and when you match it with some white-ish or milk colors, it is incredibly beautiful and looks even better than pure black. But it is not as versatile and doesn't look so great with jeans for example. So, black sapphire looks better (and definitely more stylish) than black when you find a good color match, but there are fewer good color matches. I would have loved to own both but if I can choose only one, it would be the black one. I attached some photos showing black vs black sapphire, but do note the black sapphire is pretty much impossible to photograph accurately, because it depends on the ambient lighting so much. Regardless, black sapphire is a mixture of black and navy blue and with some additional factor that I cannot identify. You really need to see it in real life and in various lighting conditions including direct sunlight. One last point I wanted to make - I ordered both jackets in size S. However, one was 10g lighter than the other, and 1.5cm tighter. It was enough of a difference to make one feel too tight while the other one felt perfect. So there are definitely some QC issues because I would not have expected so much variability within a single size class.
The new large is the old XL
I’ve been loyal to ArcTeryx for many years because their sizes were designed for trim, athletic bodies and have always fit me well. This jacket is an exception. The revised large size is the old XL. This increase in size, without changing the label, has been the trend across other brands, but I didn’t expect ArcTeryx to go that route. In their explanation of this “ revised fit”, the larger sizes are now looser. Medium remains unchanged. That means the old large is non-existent. No option for me but to return my large and go without what looks and feels like a nice jacket. I am more than just a bit disappointed.
Favorite lightweight
This is a favorite of mine. At home I wear my frayed Pendleton, but the green Kyanite Lightweight Jacket is what I wear when I go out to the store or go walking. There are many days — particularly here in the San Francisco Bay Area — when it's cool in the morning, then quickly warms up. A hot day can be followed by a cool evening. In this kind of environment, the Kyanite LIght is very useful. I can easily remove the jacket and stuff it in a daypack or tie it around my waist. Now my son has discovered the jacket, and it's not always there when I reach for it. I hope that Arc'teryx doesn't discontinue manufacture of this jacket. If I can, I will buy one for my son just in order to recover my own.
Versatile lightweight jacket
Great lightweight. Shame about colour choice. I would have purchased Forage green but this has been discontinued
Awesome fit and fabric!
Superlight, comfortably warm en great fit!!! Worn it while climbing: Mont Blanc, Grand Paradiso and Lagginhorn.
Minor design oversight
This has the potential to be a great fleece but has a design oversight that lowers the bar. In my opinion they should have extended the mesh pocket lining up the entire front. As a result there is an outline of the seam that visibly cuts across the torso along with a minor bump near the zipper. Also the extra layer of mesh in the chest area would support masking biological symptoms being a bit chilly. My comments are more nuance and probably aren't a big deal for most but attention to detail is what differentiates great products from good products.
Exceptional lightweight midlayer - perfection!
Wow. The Bird hit a home run with this one. I prefer the hoodless jacket for a lightweight fabric like this. I believe it is the polar tech power stretch but just a thinner version of it. It is amazingly comfortable and soft against the skin. This is the PERFECT fall and spring layer over a T shirt when you need just an extra bit of warmth. The cut is very athletic with the long arms that all Arc gear comes with now.
New sizing is the worst.
New sizing is the worst. I liked it so much I bought a new color, but I bought it in the same size as before (size S) and it is a little smaller than before, which is very disappointing. The length of the base layer I wear inside sticks out. I can only assume that the new sizing is meant to steer most users towards the medium size. As a long time Arc'teryx user, it is a shame because the 3D cutting is the brand's signature. I hope they will go back to the original sizing. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

HoodielessKyantie is dynamite
In preparation for next winter, I got the Kyanite LW Jacket, which does not have a hoodie. I prefer ski clothing without hoodies, as these are non functional when consistently wearing a helmet. I shall it use as my mid-layer under my hard shell Arcteryx jacket and over an Oslo first layer. In general the cold does not truly affect me, whereas I ski at least 80 days per season. I most certainly love the return to the past grey blueish coloring as the understatement is much more of interest than dysfunctional fashionable colors.
