Favorite jacket. Moto approved!
I wear this on my windshieldless moto going 70-89 mph and it does the job on windblocking. When it rained, it keep deflecting rain. I wear a merino thermal, my casual, moto protective shirt, and my thermal heated liner, which I don't have to turn on the heated liner at these temps because of the windblocking and having gear insulate the heat inside. I love this field jacket; my favorite jacket. I want to buy a more expensive jacket here, but this one was beautiful to pass up. Its big for sure for my 5'5 stature at Medium, but I have full range of motion with all my gear on underneath and that's awesome. Buy it! worth it!
Fantastic - Durable and Versatile
For years, I saw Fjallraven gear and was always hesitant because of the somewhat steep price across the board. Pulled the trigger on this in August, and have worn it as a New England / Massachusetts fall jacket over flannels and some light base layers and have now made it through almost the entire winter with a base layer + mid layer puffer and its the perfect jacket. I'm a 5'7" 155lb, and the small is a great size with some room on its own but allows the perfect amount of space for a puffer to fit underneath very very comfortably. I'm fully converted to a Fjallraven fan, and feel like they truly make "buy-it-for-life" material products.
Classic Waxed Canvas Jacket.
Really well made classic jacket, like the waxed canvas jackets of yore. Unfortunately, like all classic jackets it is wide, boxy, quite unflattering and heavy. Try as I might, I could not really find a use for it, so sadly I ended up returning it. I am 6ft and 165lbs so you may have better luck with fit/style. As for use, it may work well for casual Travel (I personally prefer a featherweight travel blazer)
Durable, classic style
Great jacket for those of us living in the Southeast US. was able to wear comfortably down to around 50 degrees F with only a lightweight cotton flannel shirt underneath. You can go much colder if you have a suitable insulation or base layer underneath. I bought in dusk for a classic style yet unique colorway that stands out among your standard olive or khaki surplus jackets. The G1000 softens up a bit with wear. Supposedly water resistant, but I would caution against wearing if more than a light sprinkle is in the forecast.
Decent coat. Sleeves too short
I was looking for a thinner shell jacket and I'd tried the Skogso jacket and overall really liked it except for how thin the G-1000 light fabric was - holding it up to light, you could see right through it. It didn't inspire confidence in durability, wind/water resistance. The Raven jacket alleviates that issue by using the regular G-1000 which is still lightweight but clearly thicker when held up to the light. The overall quality is really good and the packable attached hood is a really nice feature. My biggest issue and the main reason I returned it was the sleeve length was too short. I normally wear a size medium which fits my torso well but the cuffs would ride up my arms as soon as I outstretched my arms or lifted my hands up to my face. The size large almost resolved this issue but at the expense of looking super blocky and baggy on my taller lean build. This was strange considering Iother FJ products I have, the Skogso Padded jacket and the Pack Down hoodie are some of the few garments I've recently found that accommodate my long arms. In fact, I've seen a lot of reviews complaining about FJ's long sleeves. The Raven jacket, however, doesn't follow that trend which is annoying for me. For a shell jacket, longer sleeves makes sense. For people with shorter arms you might fare better.
Versatile and Stylish
I’ve bought it in Dusk, and I like this jacket. Traditional Fjallraven durability is combined with a timeless military M65 style. One may wear it on a trail, around a city, and even in an office in a casual look. Also, it is perfect for traveling due to the multiple big pockets. This makes the jacket very versatile. A rolled hood can be a lifesaver in a wind or light shower rain. I’m 5’11” (180 cm) 163 lb (74 kg), and M fits me well.
Raven coat
Well worth every penny I know it's expensive but you have to think of it less as a coat and more like a wearable Volvo that is very well made, very robust and will provide excellent service for years. I wer mine walking the dog and bird watching in all weathers and have done so for years without any drama's Well done Fjall Raven a company that makes kit that lasts with a thought for the environment, Keep up the good work.
Great jacket
I bought this a few years ago and have worn it hiking in autumn and spring, chopping wood while snow falls and in the city on a cold day. With a good mid-layer, it holds up down to the 20's and 30's (F) if you're doing mid to high-output activity. Looks as good as the day I bought it. Recommend!
Nothing but solid work
Nothing on this jacket is disappointing. The hood actually rolls back up into the collar. It is great against the wind and rain while on bike. The tie downs on the inside keep all the heat inside. While I haven't used the pockets much yet I know they'll be great for gloves and hats this winter.
Everyday outdoor that works!
Purchased my Raven in Dusk last summer, and used it last fall, and getting a lot of use this spring for everyday outdoor use as advertised. It was my first purchase with the brand, and I love the jacket after years of never having a suitable transition jacket. Although I normally fit in size large, the medium fits great on me (5'9, 190lbs), with ample space for layering. I'm from Ottawa, Canada and I've found that the jacket excels in the 5C-18C range, depending on conditions. With good layering like my down vest and/or merino base layers, I've worn it down to 0C if there's not too much windchill, but around there I tend to switch to my Greenland Winter. Not much experience in anything more than light rain for short periods. Fit, fasteners, colour, and design/style are my favourite aspects of the jacket. Minor points, but a metal zipper and slightly lower collar without the hidden hood that I don't expect to use would have made this jacket perfect, but it doesn't bother me, and I look forward to many years of use!
