Overall great bike. I don’t have too many criticisms, but here they are: 1. No quick release collar for the seat post? Really? 2. Pedals are decent, but I’ll probably upgrade those in the future. 3. Like all ebikes, this thing is HEAVY. That’s usually not a problem while riding because you have the motorized assist, but loading and unloading over the tailgate of my truck is a chore. Also I’ve tried pedaling without the electric assist. You better hope your battery never runs out far from the trailhead, because any incline feels like you’re pedaling through sand. On the positive side though, 1. running out of power isn’t too likely if you start with a full charge. I rode for an hour in eMBT mode on trails with a lot of up and down, and only got down to 80%. I’m not one to ride for more than a couple hours, so the battery should provide plenty of juice for my rides. 2. I have to say, the Bosch motor and controls are awesome. They make the least enjoyable part of mountain biking (the climb) a breeze. In Turbo mode, you can definitely feel the kick of the motor a split second after you start to pedal. That kick could easily give you too much boost on twisty trails, but the eMBT mode provides plenty of support so you don’t get as fatigued on quick ascents without being too aggressive. The controls are easy to access while riding. The screen is bright and provides lots of useful information. And the app that connects to the Bosch system is excellent! In the app, you can find even more data, you can plan and map routes, and you can even fine tune the characteristics of the different ride modes. 3. The brakes are strong and responsive. 4. Comes with good tires. 5. The front suspension fork is decent, though I definitely wouldn’t recommend this bike for trails with serious drops or jumps (you want a full suspension for those). 6. I thought it was weird that it came with a kickstand. Never had a mountain bike with a kickstand, but whatever, I’ll use it since I have it. Oh, and it has a bell! I think these features must be aimed at newer riders. 7. Most importantly, though, this bike is fun to ride. I think it’s a great bike for any beginner or intermediate mountain biker looking to explore more trails with less fatigue and I highly recommend. I can’t wait for my next ride!
Pros: Fun and responsive power! Lots of get up and go Quality Bosch drive train Disc Brakes Long lasting battery (28 miles on a variety of pedal modes) and easy to charge Easy to navigate intuitive user interface – Bluetooth capabilities with cell phone 4 pedal assist modes- From Eco to Turbo Easy to read display board Cons: Heavy- takes some getting used to and makes the bike less responsive No dropper seat Hard tail with lackluster front suspension This bike would be great for a beginner or intermediate mountain biker that wants to ride green/blue trails without having to grind uphill. This would allow a beginner to get more time on the bike and not be limited by the physical and cardio heavy nature of mountain biking in Colorado. This bike is a great commuter around town as well - very fun to ride! This bike made riding North table mountain a breeze and love it as a commuter too. Being a hard tail and having lack luster front suspension, I would not suggest that this bike go on black rated trails so best suited for beginner to intermediate riders. I got the size Large frame and I am 5'11". I would say anyone shorter than me would probably prefer a medium. My husband (also pictured) is 6'1" and it fit him very well.
“I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I’ve ridden only a handful of E-bikes over the past 5 years, so I was excited to have the opportunity to really spend some time getting to know an E- bike over the course of a few weeks. The first thing I noticed was the weight. At 55 pounds it is heavy. It was a bit awkward to load it into the back of my truck by myself. Doable but awkward. But the good thing about being a heavier bike is it will help you stay on the trail. It looks like they put the money into the battery and and computer. Great battery life, and easy navigation with the screen and display. Ideally, this bike will be great for riding in the city, easy dirt trails, as well as easy to moderate single track. The hard tail is going to make it a little difficult in tight situations; as well as the shocks. I may have a faulty set of shocks because they are not giving whatsoever in the open position? The drivetrain seems good from what I’ve experienced so far. Really good tires that you would find on a higher end bike. The only real downside seems to be the brakes are a little soft? The kickstand threw me as well? I feel that in any extreme trail it might be a hindrance or even get knocked off. But for the city, I love it. But overall, very happy with the DRT e1.1 Electric Mountain Bike.
This is my first e-bike, and it’s fantastic—definitely a 5-star experience! The bike’s color and matte finish look great, adding a sleek, modern touch to the overall design. It’s easy to load onto my Lolo rack, which is a big plus. The Bosch pedal-assist system is intuitive and user-friendly, with the bonus of syncing to my phone. I also love that I can leave the battery in to charge—super convenient. The bike's geometry is very comfortable, making it excellent for getting around town and commuting to work. With its wide tires and front suspension, riding to and from work is a breeze, and then I can easily take it out on weekends to hit local trails. Coming from a full-suspension bike, I wasn’t sure how this would handle on trails, but it’s been solid. I rode the trails at St. Edwards Park, Paradise Valley, and Grand Ridge without any issues. While it’s not designed for big drops or jumps, it’s perfect for cross-country and single-track trails, which fits my riding style. The pedal-assist system makes uphill rides so much more manageable, allowing me to ride longer and cover greater distances. The battery held up well, lasting around 20-25 miles on eMTB mode. If I could make a few minor tweaks, I’d add an option for a quick-release seat post or a dropper post, although it’s not a big deal with the motor’s help on uphill stretches. I’d also remove the kickstand for trail riding, as it occasionally gets in the way on narrow single-track sections. A bit more travel in the front fork would be nice, but the current 100mm fork handled the trails well. Overall, this bike is amazing and has been a pleasure for commuting, getting around town, and weekend trail adventures. Highly recommend! A few things that I would change would be a way to easily add a dropper post or at least to have a quick release for the seatpost. It's not as big of a deal since the motor helps with the uphill, but with the current setup you have to find a hexwrench to adjust the seatpost. I would also take the kickstand off if going riding on trails. A couple of times, it felt like it was getting in the say esp in narrow single track. I would love to have the more adjustable front fork with at least 20mm more of travel, but 100mm was good for the trails I was riding.
This e-bike is great for riding around town to run errands or commute to work. Although it’s designed as a mountain bike, it is a hard tail (only front suspension) and doesn’t have an automatic dropper seat. I would only ride this on very easy, not technical (no rock features) mountain bike trails. Pros: - I, personally, LOVE that it’s an e assist bike, meaning that the electric assist on turns on when you pedal vs allowing you to coast on just battery power. I feel that it’s safer and also allows for some exercise - The e-assist when you stat pedaling from a stop to start is so nice in an urban environment- it helps me quickly start pedaling at a stop sign or stoplight (think no need to get out of the saddle for more power). - The power shift is very intuitive and easy to see on the bike display (thanks to the REI bike tech who gave me a run down of the different power settings) - The ranges of e assist are great for when you want to use your legs more (eco) vs when you want to hustle/ride up a hill (Turbo) - Battery life seems to last a while Cons: - Fit: I’m a 5’7” 135 woman with long legs. The height of the saddle adjustment isn’t an issue, but rather I can’t move the saddle any more forward to feel more comfortable with my reach (too much pressure on my hands on the handle bars and front of pelvis). Not an issue of quality and I tend to fluctuate between small and medium bikes depending on brand and top tube length, but something to note - you’ll want to demo in person before purchase - Saddle: saddle is always a personal preference but I’d expect a higher quality saddle for this price point - Bike lights: it would seem intuitive that an e bike have bike lights but this bike does not - App: I’m confused why I need to download an app when the e bike runs well without one. The app does have adjustable preferences for the different power settings but it’s not clear what the changes will result in (easier or harder?). Note, you do not have to download the app to ride the bike, it’s just highly recommended by the manufacturer
Bike has been great, should have had it shipped instead of store delivery. Bike shop assembled but didn't charge it, didn't let us test it or adjust it or anything REI said it would, and gave us the wrong charger (think it was European) so we couldn't charge it. Had to wait for a "repair ticket" for them to switch out the charger and they acted like it was a big favor on a brand new bike. Great bike, disappointed in REI.
So I picked this bike up in the PNW right as the weather turned to gloom and rain everyday, so my experiences with the bike so far have been limited by weather. Right out of the box, the bike looks great and felt solid. The app to control the bike settings was simple to set up and very intuitive. On pavement it was very easy to get the bike up to its max speed of 20mph and it felt very stable at that speed. I was able to get on a gravel pipeline trail and this thing is a dream going up hills. Battery life seems adequate, but I’m a bit of a fair weather rider so I haven’t been able to do a long trek yet due to the PNW weather conditions. I’ll definitely circle back and update this review as I use the bike more. Shifting felt pretty smooth and brakes handled the speed and steep terrain without any issues. I like that you can lock the electronic mechanism via the phone app and charging is quick and easy. Battery is secured in with a lock/key. Overall it’s a solid E-mountain bike with a lot of great features for an affordable price.
