stoked beyond belief that I rolled the dice on this merino wool zip top. before we get into the quality details lets address the online color. First off, it's a darker muted blue not bright at all perfect. The stitching accent color is a nice lighter orange not gold or yellow. details...after a dozen Smartwool 250/150 tops and a number of Icebreaker 260's, Houdini and Norona merino wool tops this Ortovox 230 stands at the top of the heap. For fit the raglan sleeve is always a plus especially if you have a bit broader shoulder or longer arms it's just feels smoother with no extra seams. I am 5'11" 172 lbs. 34/35 sleeve and 34/35 waist and I sized up one notch to XL and it is perfect. These are not loose tops but have a slimmer cut and 4-way stretch.
Got this to replace an older base layer that got eaten by moths. I wore it on a multi-week January tour of Israel-Jordan-Romania, where I was limited in the amount of luggage I could carry, and needed to layer. This garment worked like a charm in Romania, which was 20-30 degrees F lower than Israel-Jordan. I plan to use it for winter cycling in Maryland, USA. I like that it's from Poland. Now is a good time to be supporting Eastern European economies.
I first ordered a size medium, but it was far too tight and constricting for my slightly overweight torso. I exchanged for a large, but encountered the same problem. I concluded that the fit is really for slender people with little or no body fat! Nice looking product, but not for me.
