When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

The Speed Shoe I'd wear for Marathons

I've had these for a few weeks now and after several speed workouts in them....I LOVE THEM. So much so that I decided to try them on my 16-miler today. And they totally performed! Just enough cushion for a long run, but light and springy enough for intervals. They're basically Altra's carbon shoe, but without the carbon. Also, they've held up really well! Very minimal wear on the tread, which I know was a complaint with the carbon version. I'd dare say these could be a marathon worthy shoe. I'm not going to get as many miles out of them as my regular trainers, and they are a little more pricey, but my feet and legs are super happy. Great job Altra!

Disappointing toe box

Escalantes are my go-to for long road runs, but I use a pair rocker-style shoes with a nylon plate from another brand for speed work. While I love them both, I have been longing for a rocker-style shoe with a wider toe box. So, when Altra released a pair I was excited to try it. Unfortunately, the Vanish Tempo does not have the Altra toe box I've come to know and love. They seem to be just as narrow as the other shoe at a higher price point ($50 more). Sizing up did not offset the toe box debacle (I'm a 9.5 in Escalantes, tried a 9.5 and 10 in the Vanish Tempo). Such a bummer. Grateful to REI for taking them back.

I cannot recommend these shoes enough! They are absolutely perfect! They have the perfect amount of cushion combined with spring to give you amazing responsiveness, they feel as close to a carbon plated shoe as you can get without the carbon plate. I would run in them everyday, but I like to keep myself grounded and run on Provisions every day and save there for speed work and hill work days so I get an extra kick during hard workouts and then race in the Vanish Carbon. I cannot recommend this shoe enough!!! For me I had to size up half a size because my second toe is a little longer then my big toes and it was hitting the end of the shoes. But a half size up and they fit like a dream!

I raced the US Beer Mile Championships in these and ran one of the fastest women's times ever! Feels like they spring you forward and even super comfortable walking around town and through the airport in.

I've been wearing the shoe for months now and it has developed a little hole at the toe, so I'll need to replace them. They are extremely comfortable, and I prefer these over the Rivera because the cushioning never deflated. Often, I look at altra's website, for a shoe that also looks good, but the color schemes are often on the embarrassing side. Hoping to get something for fall/winter and more stylish, or streetwear. Maybe it's because I live in Chicago, but adults don't dress like that here. So I keep searching and I keep waiting. May have to pick up some new balances.

Bought Altras for 6 yrs, Escalante was my favorite, but now they are cheaply made but price remains the same. I got Vanish for the sale price, took 1 more chance, bottoms worn less than 3 1/2 mo.

I love running in the Altra Vanish Tempo! It's responsive and I feel like every step springs me forward. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I do wish it came in standard though.

The best Altra running shoe I've bought. I normally wake with for pain so bad that I can't walk. Well after wearing these shoes for a whole day my feet are almost pain free.

On my third pair of these models, the first two pairs were awesome, however, these ripped after 25 miles of use! At least I got them on special a few months ago...

16 miles straight out of the box!

I wasn't going to wear them for my long run right out of the box but I'm dealing with a blister and these just felt so much better then my previous long run show and reduced the pressure on that area. It's fast. I had a hill workout but my warm up and cool down paces were about 10sec per mile faster without any effort. For my workout I ran up and down a ski mountain 10 times. They felt stable on the grassy slope. This is definitely my new favorite shoe. 16 miles 4 miles on a steep grassy slope, almost 1,900 ft of vert total. I'm sold. I can wear these for anything I feel except the technical stuff. I'm between sizes. I bought these in 9.5 and they fit perfect. I also wear 9.5 for Rivera's but wear 9 for Lone Peaks and Escalate Racers
