Function & Fashion

Wool is the way to go with baselayers. I work in the outdoor world and need a shirt that can both stand up to the work and keep the BO at bay--the Rock'n'wool accomplishes this, looking great in the process. The 185 thickness is a perfect all-around layer, providing warmth over the skin, without excess heat when aerobic. Also great as an spring/autumn rock climbing shirt. The fit is great for slim people and the stylishness is unsurpassed, with a cool, colorful asymmetric pattern. One small note: the tags on the inside were a bit scratchy on the side of my stomach when I first wore it, but it's nothing a pair of scissors couldn't cure.

I live in this base layer without washing

This is one of quite a few Ortovox baselayers I literally live in as a full time mountain guide. It's soft, it doesn't stink, it is one of my go-tos from November to March... and while I've had some Merino wool pieces show wear quickly this one looks brand new for season three of full time back-county skiing and ice climbing so.. the quality is clear.

Great wool base layer.

Really pleased with this shirt both as a base layer and as a light top layer. I mainly wanted to explore wool and this is nice. It’s warm but not thick, stays warm when wet and very soft. I know old woolen products could be scratchy, not at all for merino. I’m also blown away by the non-smell. I’ve worn this for days, including about 4 hours of running and it still doesn’t stink. What is that magic!?! There is a seam right down the middle of the chest. Has not been an issue for me, but that could rub depending on how else you load out.

not worth it

This shirt is a bit itchy, thin, and runs small. I ended up returning it. It did not feel warm.

Perfect base layer or by itself

Great fit, softer and thinner than smartwool (though I also love Smartwool) plus unique style. I weigh 240 muscular build and the XL fit great.

Rock'n'wool

I use the 185 Rock'n'wool base layers for most of my backcountry skiing in the Sierra Nevada. They are comfortable, soft, warm, and don't stink after multiple days of use.

Great layer

Nice wool layer that is soft against the skin. Able to wear many times before washing, but also holds up well after washing it many times.
