Warm and lightweight!

Great Jacket so far. I live in Colorado at 8700 ft where winter temps range from -15 to 60F in a span of a couple days (sometimes in the same day). This jacket is super light - easy to shed and pack when the day warms up. When paired with a fleece, it can handle those -15 mornings no problem. Size runs slightly small - I normally can wear a men's large with a mid-layer underneath and still have some room. This is slightly snug in that configuration. Have not had this out in light precip yet, so I don't know how well it sheds yet. Wish it had underarm zips, but hard to have both lightweight and those types of features at this price point.

Great warmth for weight

I live in puffy jackets and pants. I live and work in Alaska & Japan as a ski guide, I've owned a lot of brands and I'm most impressed with Mountain Hardware. This is pure quality, the fit is athletic the warmth is great and the style is good. The only thing i don't really like is the color choices pretty bright odd colors, I ordered the Traverse it looked a bit different than the photos it was more a womens color to me. I changed it for the dark bolt, Solid trade! Love this color, all the other colors to me seems to much color. Other than that, compared to other brands I love the size and fit most importantly than other top brands.

New Version of DS is cheaper and worse...

The biggest issues are that this is significantly less warm (and a major quality decrease) from the the original stretchdown DS (v1) which I was trying to replace. Don't buy this product. It's basically been reworked into a cr4ppy ghost whisperer (which is now also falling behind to the competitions offerings). This version of the DS is a lot less "puffy" from the original model which is why it lacks of warmth. The material is thinner and the zippers are still fairly light (I had one break on me). I also felt the cut was angular / boxy with weirdly long arms so that's something to consider if you're not built like gumby. Overall, I would recommend people pass on this product.

Phantom down hoody

The Phantom down hooded jacket has all the features I was looking for. It keeps me very warm for how thin and light it is. Thus far, I’ve only had a chance to wear it in temperatures in the low 40*F range. Although I have notice some down coming out of the seems on occasion. Usually when removing from its pack down form in the jackets right-hand pocket. Not a significant amount. Just a few small strands of down. I only wish it came in the same variety of colors like the Ghost Whisperer down jacket. Also, I wish there was a “large-short” size available. I have a large chest, but medium arm and torso lengths. The extra length of the arms and torso are not significantly excessive.

Great Hoody

This hoody is incredibly warm for its weight and just in general. I like the fit and color schemes although wish it came in a few more colors. The hoody packs down well and is easy to move in. I have not used it for any strenuous activities but have worn it around town and moving firewood with no issues. I expect this to hold up and last me a long time. There were a few loose threads when I received the hoody but nothing seemed to impair the function or undo stitching.

Not very warm. Not oversized.

This jacket is just not very warm. In 32 degree F weather in Chicago I have to wear my Patagonia or TNF shells over it to make it work. I was hoping it would be the only jacket I could wear with maybe a light base layer or fleece underneath. I was wrong. I have to couple it with a Patagonia Techface hoody and another shell to make it work sub 32F. I would expect to have to layer to some degree but it’s quite the disappointment. It also doesn’t run large. I think the people saying that just have no muscle mass. I’m 5’10” 205 lbs of lean muscle mass (13% body fat) and my XL is a tight fit. Which is probably why it’s not as warm as it should be. Patagonia XL down sweater fits me perfectly. I don’t really think having an indicator as to how things fit is necessarily helpful unless you know the build of the person who is leaving the rating. Also pretty drafty where the seams are between rows of down.

Inaccurate Product Description

Bought this jacket for mountaineering and climbing. The description says it has a "two-way front zipper" and a "hood with drawcord adjustment." It has neither. This has the potential of being a great belay jacket to throw on when your stopped but still need to be roped up, but if those features are essential for your use--look elsewhere, it DOES NOT have them as described.

A Little Off

The jacket is very light and packable, which is nice. It's noisy. It has a weird crinkle sound, not like regular nylon. It's more like the wrapper on a package of cookies. Also the red is not red. It's orange. On the spectrum of highway construction cone to fire hydrant.... this is more the color of highway construction cone. The MH photo is filtered.

Flawed baffle design

After one week of use the down around the armpits moved to the top leaving no insulation around both armpits and also making the jacket transparent to the darker inner lining . The red jacket looked like it has dirty armpit stains because the inner lining was blue . When I raise my arms you can fell a cold draft . I made a YouTube video of this review

Bombproof Phantom

Bombproof down Jacket. Only had this about a month but couldn’t be happier with this purchase. Came back to MT from far off corner of the world where it was hotter than the devils. This jacket keep the rain and cold at bay warm outside in 30 degree temps with rain/snow mix. It’s a wearable sleeping bag. Couldn’t recommend this jacket enough.
