Did NOT Survive in Patagonia
Tony
Took this jacket to Patagonia and it performed great as a windbreaker and to fend off light rain but it could not handle the unexpected weather in Chilean Patagonia. I was caught in an unexpected rainstorm and after about 30 minutes, water started to seep in from all over and I still had 5 miles left to get to the next campsite. Even before the rainstorm, when I was hiking up a mountain (the day same day) there was light rain and after about an hour I felt moisture in the hood. The rest of the jacket performed well. I will say, however, that when the rainstorm passed the jacket dried off rather quickly though it was unfortunate that during the rainstorm it got wet considering the price of the jacket. I have a Hollister rainjacket that was under $100 that performed much better in the rainy season of the Netherlands. I would value this jacket at $110 or less.

Confusing use of "2-Way Zipper" in description
Traveler
This jacket does not have a single "2-Way Zipper" on it. It has two zippers in each end of the pit opening. Some confused soul thought this was a "2-Way Zipper". It has a one way zipper on the front. Beware.

Ridiculous , I got a used jacket

This shopping experience really made me feel bad about rei's shopping experience. When I received the package today and opened it for inspection, I found that it was a piece of clothing that had been used by someone else, and there were a lot of stains on the clothing. , and there is an unpleasant smell. I never thought I would encounter this kind of problem in REI

Comfortable and definitely waterproof

I recently went backpack camping and knew there was a little chance of rain so I picked up a new rain coat. This Patagonia jacket was 40% off so it was a great deal. The little chance of rain turned into a downpour and this jacket kept me dry for 6 hours of continuous rain while packing up camp and hiking out. I was damp underneath from my body heat but the coat never leaked. The arm pit vents definitely worked. And it fit me perfectly, which is usually not the case with Patagonia clothing. The jacket is really soft and comfortable to wear. And has plenty of handy features like the arm pit zippers, a large adjustable hood, Velcro wrist closures, and it zips up high on your face to help keep the rain out. I’m really happy with the jacket.

Great jacket, intense hood

I use it as both a rain jacket and a snow shell all year long in the Colorado Winter at my fully outdoor job. Definitely zero complaints when it comes to keeping me dry. Packs down very small, is very durable, and cleans up easily. Only downside is the hood. It’s large, loud, and feels a little excessive? I recently bought a size down from what I had been wearing and that seemed to help but it’s still intense. I have to wear a baseball cap with it to have a full field of vision. If you’re sensitive to sounds or really bothered by a hood going down your forehead a bit, this probably isn’t for you.

Comfy and dry

My husband and I purchased this coat to wear at Glacier National Park and it was the right choice. The coat is comfortable to hike in and the underarm ventilation is perfect for when things warm up but are still too wet to take the coat off. Size is accurate. He is 6’ 160lbs and bought a large to have room for under clothing. The material is quiet and easy to pack up tight in a backpack.

Solid rain shell

I purchased this in Tidepool Blue because I love the deep blue with contrasting red zips. I usually wear a large and that’se what I bought. It fits well, if a little oversized (not enough to size down) but the hood is huge. It flips over my face even if I tighten it, and I wish it was just a little smaller or better adjustability. The pit zips aren’t true “2-way” but single zippers that open in opposite directions. And I wish there were screens in the openings but that’s not a deal-breaker. It’s a solid jacket, Patagonia is a brand I don’t find misses too often.

Great jacket…with one minor complaint

Have had this jacket for about a month now and really like it. I bought the Granite Crest, rather than the Torrentshell, primarily because of the chest zip pocket (where I always store my phone). The jacket is lightweight and generously-enough cut to accommodate a light sweater or warmer layer underneath. I also appreciate that it looks good enough to wear nearly anywhere (I wear mine to and from work, around town on weekends, etc.). If I have one complaint — one applicable to another Patagonia jacket (the Powder Town jacket) — it is the absence of a reversible main zipper, which puts strain across the bottom of the jacket when seated.

Great outer layer for outdoor activities

This is a great outer layer when going out for a hike or other outdoor adventure. Waterproof and wind resistant, it pairs well with other layers on a chilly day. It will be a nice lightweight rain jacket in the summer. I have the Metric Orange, which is great for standing out in the wilderness.
