Nice shoe but too narrow

After trying on several different bike shoes from several different manufacturers, including Shimano, Bontrager, and others, I finally decided on these. Most bike shoes are too narrow for me and squeeze my forefoot, but these seemed OK if laced correctly. These shoes look like more normal shoes and were comfortable to walk in. After bicycling in them, I'm happy with the sole stiffness and connection to the pedal, but for me they have a painful hot spot on the outside near the top of the toe box that I could not fix by adjusting the lacing. I don't think this will "break in" so I may have to return them. The toe box is too narrow for my foot. The lacing is a nuisance with the Velcro type strap at the top, but once laced the strap keeps the laces out of the way.

These will break, poor design on the top strap.

I have had two pairs of these, both times the metal buckle that cinches the top strap across the laces has sawed through its fabric loop on the left shoe, resulting in the entire top strap ripping off. This is a design flaw, and I just noticed that my replacement pair of shoes is about to snap again, 1 years after I received a warranty replacement. I like the shoes but they all break in the same spot after a year, not a good product and it will not last, these should be redesigned with a sturdier mounting strap for the metal buckle.

Great Trail Shoe

I've had a few pairs of Five Tens, and these are much more breathable than the Freerider Pro and Kestrels. The tread design is more open, with slightly bigger lugs than the other shoes, making for better traction in slippery conditions. They also have a little bit of flex in the toe, which is super helpful on hike a bike sections. The Kestrel is just so stiff through the entire sole, that hiking can be a bit tricky, even with the grippy sole. The Kestrel does have more protection around the toe box, so I will probably keep riding the them at the bike park for example. I think they run about a half size larger than my other Five Tens

Breezy

If you live somewhere with 90+ degree weather all summer, you know that most mountain bike shoes are not made for breathability aside from XC shoes which are in general better ventilated. These are a great option for hot weather riding. I think they could apply a lot of the engineering of this show to the hellcat pro and make a knockout trail shoe. The lacing is much more effective on shoes with flexible uppers than typical mountain bike shoes that have become like stiff plastic over the past 10 years. Runs long... I bought a half size down (11 vs 11.5) after trying my normal size.

Great shoe, not wide enough for me.

After researching to get a dedicated clip in shoe the features I am looking for brought me to this one. I like laces over a boa system because pressure can be spread out with a wider lace. The top lace cover strap does it's well. The style and color doesn't scream bike shoe. Also, the sole has good tread and flex for off the bike while maintaining rigidity for long pedaling excursions. The fit was accurate at a mens 11. The only issue I had is with all the bike shoes I've tried, the width!!! I take a 4E, and finding that without spending a small fortune.... Overall if your a 2E and want these features great shoe.

A great touring shoe.

When bike touring there’s usually room for one pair of shoes. These 5 Tens are a perfect choice… recessed cleat ready for the road, good support for hikes and good looks for public activities. Another bonus is that they come in men’s and women’s sizing which is cool for us because we like some similar items for our tandem kits. Sizing is accurate, details are well designed and we were instantly comfortable. Highly recommended.

Worst purchase ever.

Worst MTB shoe I have ever owned. It is super light and felt cheap- but I was hoping it was just quality, lightweight material. It is not. All my MTB shoes in the past have been 5.10, and I've been a loyal customer. These are good for riding to the local grocery store and back. This is a walking shoe, with a clipless pedal attachment, not an MTB shoe. I had serious abrasions (almost torn open) on the first ride. Might last one or two more...

good

I bought the Five Ten Trailcross Clip-In Mountain Bike Shoes 2 years ago, and honestly, I’m impressed by how well they’ve held up. After all this time, they still look fresh and feel solid, even after countless rides and tough trails. The grip is strong, the materials are durable, and the clip-in system performs smoothly with my pedals. They’re comfortable enough for all-day rides, yet stiff enough to transfer power efficiently when I need it. The shoes have struck the perfect balance between robustness and flexibility — ideal for both hardcore trails and casual rides. I’m really happy I chose these; they’ve been worth every penny and continue to serve me well. Highly recommended!

I love these Shoes

I'm planning some bike packing trips this summer. My current shoes (Specialized Recon 2) are great on the bike and good for a quick hike a bike, but I wanted a pair of cycling shoes that I could wear off the bike and avoid bringing a second pair on my trips. These shoes fit the bill 100%. They are stiff and solid on the bike but off the bike I can't even tell I'm wearing cycling shoes. I've paired them with the crank brothers cleats (with one shim) and they are recessed perfectly enough so that I don't hear them click on hard surfaces/gravel when I'm off the bike and clip in/out perfectly when on the bike. I was weary of spending the extra $50.00 over the other types REI had in stock but about 150 miles in and lots of walking around I'm so glad I did. On a 40 degree F ride my toes got a bit chilled but I can't take any points off for that because these are shoes more suitable to Srping/Summer rides.

Captive Nuts Strip If You Tighten to Spec

Whatever you do, do not try and tighten the cleat mounting bolts to the recommended 5-6 Nm specification. You are guaranteed to strip out the captive nuts in the sole. Hopefully I'll be able to return these because all I have right now are paperweights.
