outstanding easy setup and reliability.

2023 Upgraded to a roam bike computer. I moves this between my winter road bike and mountain bike and I am pleased. High points are bright screen, color coded and even brighter heart rate display-green- yellow--red!, large readable 9 data points including temp , but most of all the Roam's reliability. Battery life is great and it picks up my heartrate and cadence sensors instantly every time, phone link works every time and data flows to strava promptly. I don't use maps on my bike computer.

Doesn't provide accurate power data

This my second Element. I was pleased with my first. I have a power tap power meter on one of my bikes. This unit paired easily with the power meter. However, many of the power data fields on the unit, most notably the average power field, do not work at all or provide bogus information. Moreover, some of the fields that do work do not work when you have other power related fields displayed on your workout page. Clearly this is a major software bug. After exchanging several emails with Wahoo support, they admitted that this was a problem they were aware of and that firmware needed to be updated to address it. Sorry, but I will not keep the unit while they are debugging. This is something that should occur before the product is released. I have a lot of Wahoo products, including a Kickr and a Kickr Bike, but this experience has shaken my faith in the company.

Great plug and play option for non-tech savvy riders.

Super accessible. Plays well with RidewithGPS routes. Also automatically uploads rides to save my phone battery. Integrated quickly with my power meter and easily customizable fields. Better than expected battery life. Super stable mount. One quirk is that I'm not crazy about the climb page popping up on top of other pages, but I might be able to adjust that in settings. Overall, super impressed, particularly with the mellow learning curve for a regular/strong rider that's long been tech weary.

Undecided - Waiting for cadence and HRM issue

Don't let my stars affect the product. I have not used it yet. I bought the Element because of the screen size. When I opened the box, there was no cadence or heart rate monitors. While the features do not list either monitor as coming with the product, it also doesn't say the monitors are extra. However, the Technical Specs section on the right side of the screen lists both features as "Yes." This listing leads a prospective purchaser like me that both monitors would be included. I have reached out to REI for clarification before I decide if I want to keep this purchase.

Elemnt Roam - Verson 2 is worth the upgrade

I waited a long time for an improved version of the Elemnt Roam. I upgraded from the original Elemnt. Roam-Version 2 Pros: 1. New easier to read font 2. The screen appears to be more sharper (probably due to the font) 3. The sound emitted from the device is louder 4. Wahoo retained the side and top LED's 5. USB-C port 6. Raised buttons on the front of the unit 7. Easier to push buttons on the entire unit 8. Came with an out front mount and handlebar mount Cons: 1. I would like to have a larger screen with less bezel while keeping the unit the same size. 2. No solar charging on the unit like on the Garmin 3. No safety tether Glad I upgraded.

Upgrade Review

While I give the new version of the Roam 5 stars as we’ve been waiting for these updates, there’s still slight room for improvement. Of course love the color coding and the mapping is even better as I was able to follow my race course without confusion. with respect to the color backgrounds, why use white font against a gray background? Can barely read the value in the field so interested to understand if that’s the only option. The other is the altimeter accuracy. I road Big Sugar last weekend and I ended up with 8800’ of climbing and roughly the same in descents. However the GPS course assigned to the event has 6200 listed.

Excellent head unit

New color screen is perfect for glancing at data metrics and the new buttons are fantastic with or without gloves, usb c charging is great as always. Routing and gps tracking are on point out in the wilderness or busy streets so no qualms there. The ease of use and interface are classic wahoo, it’s amazing. The new version is everything I could ask for, maybe a longer battery but that’s just me because I’m lazy;). Bonus for the stem mount and ease of sensor setup make this heady it a pleasure to use.

Great computer but why is v2 SOOOO loud?!

The Roam v2 is as good as ever (I also own the first Roam). It has all the functions needed in a simple and effective package. But WHY did they increase the notification beep volume to such an annoying level without any ability to adjust it? It's annoying to me and truly obnoxious to others I'm riding with. Wahoo's answer is to turn the beep off, but I use radar all the time which defeats the objective. And radar notifications on busy roads kick up the frequency of alerts significantly which makes it even worse. I'm not going to return it as it remains a great device, but this aspect has really been a disappointment.

Outstanding Cycling Computer

This is my second Wahoo computer and my first Roam. Nice upgrade on size and battery performance. I've had no problems with connecting multiple bikes with multiple power meters and sensors. My first Element lasted about 30,000 miles (still working btw) and I'm hoping to get 5yrs and 40,000 miles on my Wahoo Roam. Great product.

Okay

I like the overall layout , but wish there were street names on the map. Also had some sensor drop and had to keep adding after doing so once before. The screen is nicest feature , very clear and easy to read. The zip tie mount needs to go . For mtb use it doesn’t hold at all and they should use o-rings . I do wish the backlight was a little brighter at dusk . Also would be nice to have a dedicated ecosystem like garmin connect on the computer instead of being tethered to the phone app. The restore function never worked unfortunately and I had to do it all over . LEDs are nice for turn by turn directions .

Reluctantly purchased, but now can't live without

I never knew I wanted this until I had one, and I always thought it was an extravagance given all of the things you can do with a smartphone. I've been tracking rides on Strava for years with the app, but the computer adds a few things that are really nice to have: 1. I bought a Garmin Varia radar tail light and wanted the traffic display. I've only been riding with the Varia for a few weeks but can't imagine wanting to ride in the city without it ever again. 2. While I can log all the data from heart rate, speed, and cadence sensors with my phone, it causes my phone battery to get drained pretty fast. Moving all of my sensors to the Roam has dramatically reduced demands on my phone battery. 3. Certain apps (looking at you, Strava) no longer work with sensors directly, so you have to record rides in some other app and then transfer. When you end a ride on the Roam, you can upload it to multiple services (Strava, RideWithGPS, and so on) just by stopping. 4. Having real-time display of my heart rate enables me to target fitness in real time. There's a section of my commute where the lights are timed for bicycle speeds (~13 mph), but I tend to ride hard and use that section as interval training because I can see how my heart rate responds to varying the workout.
