I have used Speed Cross 5 twice on treks through the Swiss Alps. They are lightweight, extremely comfortable, and durable. They are definitely my new favorite hiking shoe!
I absolutely love these shoes. They’re tough enough to keep up with +50 mile weeks whether those miles be through dry trail, rocky terrain, or snow-packed trails. They also carry a Gore-tex version, which do amazing in mud, slush, snow, or rainy conditions. I’m on at least my 5th or 6th pair by now. I bought my first pair the day before my first 50-miler (they say the number one thing not to do during a race is to wear brand new shoes), and I was so happy with the decision! I didn’t get a single blister. The Speedcross are so comfortable and with the contagrip they do great in muddy conditions! I’m a trail and ultra runner who puts in a lot of miles and I finally found a shoe that can keep up with me! I’m 5’6”, 120lbs and wear a 8.5. I have narrow, flat feet and these shoes give me the support that I need for long miles on the trails and in the mountains.
Overall love Salomon products but Very disappointed in the changes of the speedcross over the last couple years. They were my all around training and go to shoe. This new version, the speedcross5, unfortunately doesn’t feel great on the feet. Weird rubbing spots at the top/opening of the shoe that causes abrasions and pain under my lateral malleoli. I tried 3 different pairs of the 5 and they all have caused the same problem. The inserts are sloppy and slide around especially when wet and it almost cost me a race because the whole insert slid down and rolled up under my toes for 10 miles+. Overall the shoe feels unstable around the ankle causing rolling of the ankles more often which I think is due to the new built up heel. I have bought probably over 100+ Salomon shoes in the past 10 yrs and 2/3rd have been speedcross. At this point I’ve been shopping around to find something else. I’m really Hoping you bring back the speedcross4s!!! The pics below show small abrasion on ankles that are still healing and I haven’t worn the shoes in over 1 month. The abrasions initially were about 2-3x the size they are now. The 3rd photo is of the area of the shoe that causes rubbing and is located in all 3 pairs of shoes I have bought of the speedcross 5s. As you can see from the photos, I still wore them a ton to see if it was just a issue breaking them in but unfortunately the problem did not improve with time.
Got a pair of Speedcross 5 salmon color about a month ago. Used them in very light hikes while on a one week RoadTrip around Oregon State. Came back home and noticed shoes are starting to peel off and come apart. If this happened with just a week of usage I am worried about how they are going to hold on in the future. For the price I was expecting a better quality and durability. I am very disappointed.
Thanks for leaving your review and we’re sorry to hear about your recent experience with our Speedcross 5. We’d like to look into this further for you. All of our footwear comes with a 2 year warranty, so we’ve set up a case and emailed you directly to solve this.
I have to say I was skeptical but after my 1st two pairs (speedcross 3) I bought and never got to wear bc I quit playing softball, yes I bought the shoes for softball. Well the best thing to come out of this crazy time right now is I have reconnected to nature and have been walking/hiking. Let me tell you, I love the shoes so much for hiking I bought another pair (speedcross 5). Only Downfall is on one pair of shoes the clip broke to tighten laced and tuck away! But love these shoes and can’t wait for my next pair!! The shoe is lightweight, durable, great quality and great traction!! Would love to see a waterproof speedcross shoe!
This is my 3rd pair of Salomon speedcross and although there are lots of good reviews, I have to say I haven't been happy with how long they've lasted at all. I thought spending a bit more would make a difference but it didn't. The lugs on the speed cross 5 have lasted only 5 months, see photos. I run through woodland and along grassy river banks 3-4 times a week. Yes they are super grippy, and yes they are comfortable and lightweight but that's it for me. I won't be buying another pair, sorry Salomon.
Thank you for reaching out to Salomon. We are sorry if we missed the mark on this occasion. Our customer service will reach out to you regarding this matter. Hopefully moving forward we can advise you on a shoe that better suits your purpose. Thanks and have a great day.
After wearing out a previous version of Speedcross 5s, I had to see if the new version was just as good. I've put over 200 trail miles on this version so far this winter, and yes, they are just as amazing if not better. Lower profile tongue, feels more reinforced, beautiful profile that supports my high arch very well, grippy soles that eat up mud, rocks, slush, snow and ice. I love the lace tightening system (don't overtighten!) and that the liners are removable - I will remove these when drying the shoes. I love these shoes, Salomon never change them please! Also I freaking LOVE this color.
A few months after I bought these shoes the uppers started disintegrating! First they would crack in a number of places. Then they would start peeling away. I've never had shoes fall apart like this especially after just a few months time. Very disappointed in this product. Would not recommend to anyone!

Somehow these shoes make me feel confident! I feel like every step is very grounding in these shoes on trails I just feel very stable in these and they make me a little taller!! Love the way these feel and grip the trail!
The comfort is amazing! I love there are no laces to tie, just tighten and tuck away! The grip on the bottom has made a huge difference with little to know slipping! I love a lower profile shoe so this pair is perfect!
