I've been a brand enthusiast of Salomon's for a good 15 years now, because they always delivered in the arch department for my and my family's flat feet. I've boughten a lot for myself, my children, and my mother who has duck feet (wide at the ball, normal at the heel). These, however, were wildly disappointing. I'm keeping them, but only because I already have some fancy cork insoles from REI in my closet. If I had to go out and buy $50 insoles to make these work: I would be returning them. Please see photos for the lame insole that came with the shoes, and the gently sloping interior of shoe where an arch should be. Salomon's sizing has no basis in reality (a quirk we all put up with for a good quality shoe): I wear an American ladies 10 and EU 41, but the Salomon's that fit say American 9.5 EU 42 - same shoe. So buy down a 1/2 size for American, buy up 1 size European. They run long, so are good for long toes. This particular style wouldn't accommodate wide or duck feet. The shoe fits well, looks tidy, feels stable and doesn't rub anywhere. But if I had wanted supportless shoes - there's a lot cheaper brands out there!
I have extremely bony feet and ankles and I have to be careful with shoes rubbing against my ankle bones. The Trailster is the only Salomon model that fits my foot and ankle. It took me about 3 months to completely destroy them and turn them into something disgusting. Which, for the conditions I run in, is pretty good. Super sturdy too for the technical stuff, toe protection is bomber. Only note - laces suck and don’t stay tied, swap or triple special knot them. Buying another pair!
I bought the Trailster W in purple to replace my old Salomon off-road trainers. I am very pleased with how they look but a little disappointed in the sizing. I always wear a 7.5 in Salomon, and have been a loyal customer for a few years now. However the Trailster W seem to come up a little small. I can at times feel my big toe brushing the end of the trainer. All my other trainers are Salomon, so not sure whether this is a one-off issue. Not sure if I will run off-road with these trainers due to the worry of damaging my big toes. I may just use them to walk the dog off-road. However, the overall feel is good.
I normally wear Speedcross 4 shoes for running dog agility. Recently I was getting stuck in thick grass so I contacted customer service for an alternative shoe. They recommended the Trailster. Great recommendation. They were comfortable right out of the box. Just ran 4 days of agility in complete comfort. Others were complaining they were having issues in the grass with their shoes, but not me. :-). The only issue is that you must double tie the laces so they don’t slip out. My recommendation would be a lacing system like the Speedcross, but I still give these shoes a 5 star rating!
Theses shoes pinch on top, at the base of my toes when I walk. They don’t suit my feet. Other Salomon shoes in the same size work well for me so I was surprised by this. Returning as soon as shop opens.
I normally wear between a 7.5 and 8 and I bought a 7.5 but these shoes had a good 1.5inches between my toe and the end of the shoe. I would recommend sizing down if you buy these.
I purchased this pair of Solomon's & I'm so glad I did. Shoes are of great quality & are very comfortable. I get a lot of compliments when ever I wear these or any of the many pair I have. After trying many brands of shoes I was blessed to find Solomon's. I have been buying nothing but them as I am extremely satisfied with this brand. I wear a different pair everyday as I have a variety of them in different colors.
The Trailster was very comfortable right out of the box. No breaking in period needed. Grips the trail wonderfully from mud to sandy and rocks. I have total confidence in each foot placement that I will not slip/slide. No matter how many miles I put in my feet feel great. Nice amount of room in toe box.
I bought them for trails and was surprised by how light they were on your feet. I also wore them on a Spartan I ran last month and all during the race they were super comfortable
This is by far the best online purchase I have ever made. These shoes are perfect for trail running and hiking. They fit perfectly. Highly recommend!
