I finally decided to try shoes with a bigger toe box. While I have small feet, I tend to get blisters on the balls of my feet, I finally made the switch to topo and have about 300 miles on the pink pair, however the mesh has started ripping, good old wear, I typically will try to get at least 400 miles on a pair of shoes before tossing them, unfortunately I might have to retire this pair early. Otherwise these shoes have treated me pretty well, so much better than some other brands I've tried.
I have had 3 pairs of these shoes and never had any issue with them. I also wear their trail shoes. Sometimes I am more rough on a pair and they may develop tearing or holes in the mesh. But I have never had a pair fall apart or not do the intended job. This is the only brand I currently wear. I wear them for everything from dog walks to ultras.
I was looking for a low drop running shoe with more padding than the “barefoot” shoes and this seemed to fit the bill. Love the wide toe box, they fit true to size (8), and feel well made and comfortable. After running in them a few times my only negative comment is that they seem pretty stiff, my foot can’t bend much in them. This may just be a breaking in issue, or the fact that I am used to a much more flexible shoe.
Bought these shoes along with another pair, and within 2 months this pair fell apart at the seams around the big toe joint on both shoes, along with a hole at the toe of both shoes. I went to my local REI to make use of the 100% satisfaction guarantee for the first time ever, and they told me they would not honor their policy as it was “normal wear & tear” for the rigorous hiking I must have been doing during the COVID quarantine. They looked up my membership in a pretense of seeing how frequently I return shoes (never), but then returned to telling me this was normal. Um, yes, the shoes were used while I mowed my lawn & pruned my tomatoes and were thus dirty, but I wear other shoes for hiking, for going to town, and for wet conditions. These are the first shoes I’ve had last less than 9 months, and they *most certainly* were not the cheapest. I will not be buying shoes from REI again, nor would I recommend these shoes. Into the waste bin they go.
I use these shoes for gym workouts and walking around the neighborhood or on paved paths. I use the Ultraventure as trail shoes. These are comfy and look great in black, so they pair well with lots of outfits. They fit true to size and require no break-in time. They provide good arch support and I much prefer them over Altras.
These shoes are very comfortable so far, except for a hot spot on the plantar side of one big toe. I am trying socks in various thicknesses to see if I can solve the problem. I feel that the shoes are otherwise worth the effort.
