Durability is gone
I rarely write reviews but I wanted to write today to let the reader know that I am very disappointed with my performance relaxed tapered jeans in heritage. This is my second pair of Duer brand denim, and it will be my last. The first pair blew out in 2 years of heavy wear, and I was completely impressed, which is why I was happy to purchase another pair. I got my most recent pair of Duer jeans October 30th, 2023 and swore to myself that I would take care of them and see if I couldn't get 3 or more years out of this pair! I hand washed in cold water with gentle detergent, treated the color with vinegar, and hung to dry about once a month. I cycled these jeans weekly with other garments and never wore them more than 2 or 3 days in a row and always a casual wear, not work wear. less than 7 months later the gusset is already disintegrating. I'm not sure if this is a sourcing issue or QC issue, but I do know that it is in fact an issue. I'm planning on returning the jeans to REI this week, but I wanted to share my experience with you and hopefully Duer brand in the hope you will take this feedback and return to foundation of durability, fit, and performance that built your brand upon.
Looks like Jeans, Feels like sweatpants
These jeans are like nothing else I have worn before! They are soft and comfortable, and feel like sweatpants but look like denim. They look great, and I appreciate they can be dressed up or down. On hikes, I found them to be more breathable than denim but also just as warm as a pair of traditional jeans, and think they would be appropriate more for fall/winter hikes or climbing. The pockets are generous and comfortable. The cut is relaxed but still very much a jeans cut, which keeps the jeans stylish but do not expect the wide cut of hiking pants. Overall, this is the most versatile piece of clothing I own and can easily go from the trail to a night out in the city, but like a traditional pair of jeans, shines best on cool/cold nights and not in hot weather.

Super comfy and stylish. But these wore out very quickly when riding my bike. I don't think they are very durable.
Only lasted 9 months
I love these jeans - definitely one of my wardrobe go-tos. They’re flattering and easy to adventure in; I forgot to bring my climbing shorts to the gym one day and didn’t have any problems with climbing in these jeans for a few hours. Unfortunately, my previous pair and then this one both went threadbare and wore out in the gusseted crotch within nine months of purchase. Maybe third time is the charm and my next pair will last at least a year, but I’m not holding my breath. It’s unfortunate that quality is an issue, because they are one of my favorite REI finds.
Very Flexible
I’ve been wanting to try these sort of hybrid Jeans for a while. I always wondered how they would breath and hold up durability wise as the pants strayed further away from standard Jean material. Conclusion - I waited too long. The performance denim itself is very comfortable. It’s breathable, flexible (which is usually my biggest gripe with jeans), and has rich color. I find that the flexibility leads to a better wear, since there is stretch - jeans stay in place around your waste better than traditional jeans. Basically they don’t really ride up at all. I will be buying more in other colors, I sincerely like these jeans. Glad I got them. Don’t hesitate, you’re going to love them.
Nice Comfy Jeans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These jeans are very comfy. I only have two points of constructive criticism. First, the waist is just slightly more generously sized than other jeans I have, including a pair of Duer No Sweat Relaxed Taper pants. Size 36 usually fit me perfectly, but these are a bit loose. I don’t know that I would size down to a 34, but be advised how they fit. The second criticism is that the back pockets have a generous portion of material extending down into the pocket below the cuff of the pocket. A more finished pocket would be nice for pants of this cost, as papers and tickets get snagged and stuck under the flap of material.
Comfortable, but details missing for this price
These pants are comfortable, once you can dial-in your fit. It does take a bit of trial and error due to their different sizing and accounting for the stretch. There are two glaring misses for these pants: 1) the zipper, as several have mentioned, and 2) the rear pockets. The rear pockets have an additional 2" of fabric of loose overhang into the pockets past the stitching. If you're like me and carry wallet and, at times, your phone back there, it gets caught and when you pull up over time it will tear that stitching. At first I thought this was a defect, so asked and apparently this is "how they are made". None of my other jeans (Mountain Khaki, Levi's, and other brands) have this. They either have it cut at the top or a "V" stitch in the middle of the pocket so there is no loose fabric. Seems like a miss from the Duer design team, especially at this price point.
Good, comfortable jeans
I bought these jeans not really knowing what I was getting into as I don't buy jeans often. I'll usually rotate a couple pairs until they're worn out and filled with holes. I was surprised how true to size they fitted me. The stretch material combined with the gusset makes them extremely comfortable With many jeans it feels like my genitals are getting strangled and pinched especially when sitting down or taking a knee for example. If you experience those problems with your jeans I'd say give these a shot. The only thing negative I can say about these jeans is they are pricey for jeans made in Pakistan.
A win
They are great jeans and move with you for those of us that require comfort and mobility. Honestly the most comfortable jeans I've ever owned. I purchased them for acrobatics and gymnastics but they are too nice for that.
Amazing pants, has an odor that hasn’t washed out.
I love these pants. They’re comfortable. They stretch. They seem reinforced. Typically, I have to get my pants tailored and these just fit. BUT, I washed these pants several times and I had them hang outside for five days and they still have an odor. Sometimes I’ll think that I stepped in dog xxxx, and I’ll realize it’s these pants. The smell is fading and I think in another few months I won’t notice. Maybe it’s something in the superpowers of these pants structure and fabric, but there’s a subtle odor that has not left. However, I like them so much, I will persevere And probably buy another pair.
