Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.
SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.
TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Best pants for outdoor lovers, rain, cold or snow
I bought these Hyperaxis Fleece Pants because my husband needed something cozy for our upcoming Mountain Winter! The pants are just what I need for our variable weather, hiking, walking, cool Fall days or EARLY SNOW in October and again in November, where I use them under my waterproof rain pants, complete with patrol boots and gaiters to shovel out the car, walk the snow pathways to my favorite mountain views, AND to shed for my work at home computer life, ready for my next morning trek.
Good pants
If you want a tighter fit order a size down. I have a 31-32 inch waist and medium has plenty of room. The fabric is super stretchy and soft so the medium in my opinion could fit as a large. I am middle aged with hips. Still in athletic shape but cyclist build with thighs so the medium works for me as far as fit. Would have ordered a small though if the inseam was less in a small!! They only come in 32" inseams. For us shorter folks that trend with athletic clothes is a constant annoyance. At least no zippers on ankles so easily able to take it in to get 2" taken off the hem at local seamstress. Bought 30% off so still a good deal. Will use mostly as outer layer for XC skiing and lounging.
uncomfortable seam ruins it
i got these because i really like the polartec power stretch pro in the kyanite jacket. these pants are indeed comfy but there is a seam on them that make it very uncomfortable on your anterior thighs. i'll try it for a bit and see if i can get used it to it but if not, i'm glad REI has a great return policy. I just wished they didn't charge for return shipping. the closest store is a little too far for me to get to i guess my next option is Mountain hardware joggers with polartec power stretch pro. those don't seem to have a seam on the anterior thighs
Awesome pants for winter activity
These are really nice pants for doing anything outside in the winter. We've had a few colder days (0F-10F) and I've worn these under snow pants while shoveling, sledding, and walking outside with friends. They are flexible and warm enough to not hinder movement. Indoors, I could lounge with friends and they just hug the legs, making it comfy. I just ordered another set. The fit depends on how you want to wear them. I normally wear a medium and have started to go to small size. About a 33 waist at 165# and I could wear the medium but it hangs loose on my legs. So I went for the small because I like the compression. But they both work well. Zipper pockets are nice. I wish I had a back pocket, but the two front ones are deep and secure.
Not fleece pants
Why does REI keep changing the design and look of the winter fleece pant? This pair in no way resembles the original pair(s) (for men and women), which by the way still look great. Here is no "fleece" to be seen. The pants are no longer thick. Originally they were meant for cross country skiing, hiking, other outdoor activities, etc. not "lounging". The second pair we bought (also for men and women) were changed to very narrow pant legs and baggy at the hip and butt, kind of like jodhpurs for horseback riding (why, pray tell?) but at least they still were fleece pants. This newest iteration is not. We live in a northern climate and want basic, cozy fleece pants for being outside—with or without long underwear! We will look elsewhere in the future. REI disappoints.
Very stretchy, needs better waistband/drawstring
Overall, theses fleece pants are a little more substantial and warmer than the REI Teton Fleece pants I also wear. The "Hyperaxis Fleece" is very, very stretchy. Almost too stretchy - making them difficult to pull on - like trying to get into a pair of pantyhose, I imagine. Once you get them on, they feel great and move with you. They are warm enough for mild conditions. I do wish they had a more substantial drawstring and waistband, as the drawstring provided stretches and is too flimsy. The weight of a phone in your pocket will pull the pants down. The pockets could be deeper too, as unless zipped, items fall out of our pocket - my phone already fell out once. I would not mind if the fleece pants were cut with a more tapered leg to keep out drafts - with zippers at the ankles. Finally, it would have been nice if the pants had a zipper rear pocket, for a wallet or phone.
Well made with one flaw
I purchased a pair of medium's (typical size for me) during the 2021 Labor Day sale; the fit in the calf, thigh, hip and rear is spot on; in sum: semi fitted -not too tapered like many jogger pants can be; the material and workmanship are also solid. And they are warm. However, I'm deducting one star because the waist band is too weak and the draw chord is elasticated (why?). The waist is either too large- or the elastic is too weak without cinching down a good bit. Sadly, I returned them. Hopefully a V2 will come out that fixes this flaw- stronger waist elastic and a non stretchy (and thicker) draw chord are needed in my estimation. BTW, I own the Hyperaxis jacket and it is excellent.
THESE ARE THE MOST COMFORTABLE PANTS!
Best pants ever! So soft on the inside, with a protective, yet flexible exterior. I’m serious, I want to wear these every day. I have a pair and I bought my husband a pair because I want him to be as comfortable as I am. I don’t normally write reviews unless something is exceptionally good or bad, and these pants are amazing. Please buy everyone in your family a pair for Christmas. Unless you are really tall, these run a little long, so size down.
Cozy pants.
These pants are very cozy. When I first received them I thought I'd be overly warm wearing them. They breathe. They breathe, but not enough to make you cold. I'd like to say there's some sort of sorcery containing just enough heat/cool to make anyone comfortable. The only thing they don't have is good looks. They fit me like a pair of joggers(I've never owned joggers, never tried them on, I just imagine what they fit like based on the look.). I've never really been into the fleece trends. The zippered pockets are great feature, but I likely won't be dropping anything from my pockets because these are going to be primarily used at home.
Excellent mid-layer
Comfortable warm mid-layer. Wore this in Antarctica over a thermal polar-rated base layer, under a windproof, waterproof shell. Stayed nice and warm, didn't need the heavy bulky insulated outer pants that other people wore. Very happy with this purchase.
