Right tool for the job
This 55cm ice axe is exactly what I was looking for to tackle the PCT in 2025. It’s light weight (9.5oz for 55cm), durable and maneuverable. Will put it to the test on snow/ice in the winter and update accordingly. So far, this is the right tool for the job.
LIGHTWEIGHT!
I'm thankful for how light weight this is, especially when doing over night trips and having to carry so much other gear. Full steel head. No issues with the angle and comfort of carrying this in belay or self-arrest position. I attached a sling with a girth hitch to it through the head. I've practiced self-arrest with it but have not had to use it in any unexpected situations to be able to speak about it's durability and ability to function besides on softer snow. It is lighter weight than other ice axes, so I don't carry this one for every mountain. It doesn't bite quite like my heavier one, and the spike doesn't sink in as much.
This is the absolute best lightweight ice axe
This is the absolute best lightweight ice axe on the market. It is quite durable at this weight you're a lot more likely to bring it along with you. I've taught mountaineering for 20 years and this is the ice axe that I honestly recommend to my clients.
Sturdy and lightweight
I haven't tested in the field yet but I can tell it is study enough to withstand the abuse. The reason I chose this ice axe is because I will be taking one for PCT Section I and J which requires some climb through snow early/late in the season and I needed a lightweight ice axe that I wouldn't mind taking it with me. Compared to other ice axe, this one was the lightest option with the features I wanted.
