Solid, stiff, and seamless
Purchased this bag about a year ago for bike packing in the Puget Sound area after returning the Terrapin version and absolutely love it. Once the bracket is mounted on your saddle rails the bag itself is a breeze to take on and off. The locking pin and straps provide an extremely stiff connection that leaves absolutely zero play in the system, something I really appreciate when going fast downhill. The 11l size easily fits a sleeping bag, thermarest uberlite pad, a small kettle, and a lightweight change of clothes. Overall really love the clean, no fap look. Main piece of feedback is that they should move the top bungee back a bit since it’s a bit close to the seat.
Passed all my tests
I was skeptical of the clamp-on piece but it hasn't come loose or failed in any way. Clamp stays on my bike when I'm not using the bag and I forget all about it. The bag is for-sure waterproof and pretty cavernous despite the smaller size. One thing I really like is that it adapts to smaller packing loads without flopping... although it has a tendency to rattle when lightly packed. Thoroughly tested on miles and miles of ridiculously chunky singletrack and several thousand miles of bikepacking events. Easy to open and fetch stuff out of without a lot of re-packing hassle. Inner plastic support (at seatpost) rotated out of position but didn't it seem to matter. Has a great place to affix a SPOT if you figure out a good strap. One step short of a rack setup I suppose if you've been considering that.
Great Seatpack!
I have gone through a perfect seatpack phase over the last couple of months. I tried a 10L REI banded pack (good) an Ortlieb 11L (just OK, more waterproof than the REI but not worth the cost) and I finally bit the bullet and bought the Spinelock. This thing is awesome! Super stable mount, no sway, functional lash points and bungie, I really think it's just about perfect. I wish REI. sold their mounting kits so I could easily swap this from Mountain Bike to Gravel bike but that's OK, I ordered one from Revelate.
Not a fan of Revelate anymore
Was a revelate fan boy, I have a saddle bad a frame bag, worked very well on my Niner Steel RLT. Ordered this for a short bike packing trip. I saw the someone reviewed that his/her/whatever installation was a breeze, then mine was a tornado. I am using a Fizik argo saddle, tightening the screen to the rail is close to impossible. Within 5 minutes, 1 of the screw is threaded. I was using a torque wrench, did not even applying to much force. Also I do not understand the logic why it has to use torx, since most of the bike screws are allen key. So on the trip I need to carry one more tool just for this. Returned immediately.
Great bag, important to mount clamp properly
This is a wonderful product, easy on and off with unmatched stability. Reading the other reviews I can only assume they were trying to mount the clamp incorrectly, it's helpfull to watch the video Revelate has on it. Also, most every multi tool has a T25 bit so not sure why the complaint there. They are used on many stems and cockpit bolts these days by Sram and others. Awesome bag, totally happy with it!
Doesn’t fit
I bought the 16L version when REI had it. I am unable to use it because the plate for attaching it to the saddle rails is too big. The hooks for the straps are pressed right up against the saddle with no room to hook the straps over them. I waited too long to try installing it, so now I can’t return it.
Doesn’t work
I’m a Revelate fan boy, but bought this and on the one trip I took it on the bracket kept coming off. I will be returning.
